Shipping for Recall/warranty work paid for?

a friend and I drove our other friends 08 Murci from Grand Rapids, MI to the dealer in Troy, MI a couple months back for the gas tank recall and a few others, along with some minor warranty work since the warranty expires next month. and i must say that's the most fun i have ever had with my cloths on! what a memory! But anyway, The car will be done this week and ready to come home. But now there is salt and snow on the ground, not to mention its only 20* out! (car is a roadster) Does Lamborghini give an allowance for shipping when a recall is performed? i have heard Ferrari/Maserati does so we're hoping Lamborghini would too. We have asked the service writer at the dealer about this, but he knows nothing about it. but have heard through a different dealer that they do. so i don't know who to believe. if so how do i get in contact with the right person who can direct me forward with getting it done? hopefully someone here has experience with this. Thanks!

I believe they only pay shipping in one direction, and usually that direction is from the breakdown point (i.e. your house) to the dealer. I don't think they cover return shipping. But as Chip says...If you have a good rapport with the dealer, they'll likely help in some capacity.

They will not cover shipping it home. They will cover shipping it to the nearest dealer from your point of breakdown, but they will not do return. They also will not pick up shipping for a recall item or anything that is not "breakdown" related. If the car is drivable, you have to drive it in. No need to call anyone, you should just contact a transporter and have them bring it to the house. Sounds like you are not that far if you drove it, shouldn't cost too much. FYI, Ferrari doesn't offer anything like this either...

Chris is correct...I did have them "pick up" my roadster on the gas tank recall..I stated I did not want to drive it with a possible fire hazard leak..the agreed and picked it up and took it the nearest Dealer..

Looks like we're going over to pick it up and drive it back tomorrow. Supposed to be 46* its raining today so salt should be washed off the roads for the most part, and its supposed to rain tomorrow as well I think. It's a 2.5 hr drive so the car is gonna be a mess when we get back!

Why in the world would you drive it home? Have you thought about the exposure of what could happen (i.e. slip on ice, take ice or road debris to the windshield or another body part, bad driver's in inclement weather, a sudden storm???) Man, I can see the attraction to driving the car when you get a chance, and I certainly advocate using these things, but I have to think that it is a bad choice to go pick up a car personally and drive it over 150 miles home in Michigan with the shitty roads you have and the terrible conditions.

That is just me though. I would hate to see something happen to the car. I do applaud you for putting it out there with the weather not being great, but please make sure and be careful. What would be a couple hundred dollar tow or enclosed trip could cost you a mint.

Roads are in good condition. it was near 50* with rain all day yesterday. i drove my Black DD around last night and there was almos 0 salt residue left over. so roads are pretty clean right now. Its supposed to be about 50* again today. we will probably run into rain again though. there is nothing but green grass here and i talked to the dealer in Troy and he said there is no snow there either. If it were going to be icy and snow covered roads we wouldn't even think of doing this. we just got lucky and have a good day at the end of december to do it! Im walking out the door now. i'll post pics later tonight or something.

Trip went great! rained the whole way back and got a little wet inside. I was actually surprised the top didn't leak more than it did! After we picked up the car, we made stops at the Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Spyker, Maserati, and Bentley dealers since they are all next to each other. we also stopped in at Cauley Ferrari which was about 15min away. Here are some pics. Awesome way to say goodbye to 2010!
