Placid Report post Posted October 14, 2012 So he didn't break the time in freefall record? Looks like he had to pull the chute early because his visor fogged up. Can't wait for the videos from the suit cameras!
Assman Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Considering the height of the jump its surprising he didn't break the free fall record. I know his faster decent made his altitude level drop faster.

Minacious Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Pretty cool to watch, and yes, those cameras were damn impressive. Shame he couldn't shatter the free-fall record as well, but at the speed he was falling, I guess the pre-planned altitude for the chute development came much faster than anticipated. (I knew it would deploy automatically if his spin became too violent. Not sure if was also automatic for the chute to deploy at a specific altitude, or if he had control over that.) Hell, jumping from that height, you want it all.
LyinFapper Report post Posted October 14, 2012 Being in my late 20s I have to say this is by far the coolest live TV experience I have ever watched. I had anxiety for Felix when he opened the pod door, my hands were a little sweaty and I was glued to watching the TV. I am a thrill seeker and like to push my own limits all the time but this took thrill seeking to an entirely new level. I can't wait to see what the next step may be

pockmark Report post Posted October 15, 2012 I would think they would have some automatic safety device that if the chute is not deployed by 5,000 feet that it would open automatically....

He had an automatic backup chute in case he couldn't manually do it. I'm not sure if ground control had the trigger or if it would have been triggered by an altimeter or something. There was a chute that would automatically deploy at a certain g force though I'm not sure exactly how much
