Anything is possible since there might be other factors like wind conditions etc... Plus power output, downforce and other figures from Mclaren has been pretty accurate to underrated...

It is hard to believe they would downplay there top speed by 10 MPH The story is posted by a reputable site who knows maybe they were hoodwinked.

If the McLaren F1 was able to go 240+ with 627 horsepower back in the 90's there's no reason to believe this car couldn't go 215 if the gearing allowed it. The F1 has a drag coefficient of .32 while the Spider is closer to .36, but there is a huge difference in drag between 215 and 240.

The part that confuses me is Mclaren lists top speed in 6th gear at 205 and 186 in 7th gear yet this 215 is in 7th gear. Can they push enough air in 7th to reach 215

nope, but 215 MPH at 7,900 RPM in 6th seems doable...

All the gear numbers give a theoretical speed it still need to push through the air in 7th gear to get there.

Do you believe you can do that in 7th gear it has an overdrive ratio.

i have hit pretty close to 200mph in 7th with my new bumper. (in Mexico)

so maybe this is possible

That would be nice as the story gets around the internet that the 12c is much faster then already thought that will help sales and support resale.

agree. do you think this has anything to do with the update?

most of the tests were done before any updates were given..

It could, all the other performance numbers increased. All the factory numbers were posted before the update, after the update there were all the private posting from the track showing how much faster the 12c was, that was just about the time the dealer incentives came out and most all the 2012 were selling out. It just don't make sense why McLaren doesn't promote there numbers that's what sells cars.

agree, but after a while the public will see what the car is really doing numbers wise and that will sell cars. ex.fikse, owner that ran 215 etc...

Looks like they went by the speedometer, which isn't reliable in a Lambo.

+1

In the YouTube caption it says "GPS: 354 km/h (220 mph)"
