Extended warranty opinion

It's not a bad call if you're keeping the car for a while...$10k is not hard to get to on these cars if there is a medium to serious issue. But if you're only going to have the car short term the the standard warranty should be enough for you.

The only real benefit I see is resale, it might sell quicker than a similarly priced car without the extended warranty.

How much value would a second hand car buyer would put on the extended warranty? Maybe not $10k, how much does it cost you to buy extended warranty at expiration of the standard period?

I haven't heard any horror stories with these cars, combined that with the fact that you don't keep your cars that long I would personally pass.

Do you think it pays to add the 5 year extended warranty fit $10k?

I'll never keep it more then 2 years but does it help resolve value at least that amount?

next car you buy ... get it. The 12 cyl naturally aspirated car is soon to be a dinosaur and you may want to keep one... never say never.. and if you are a roadster guy ... you may be in a 2017-18 lp750 roadster and wait for 3-4 years for next roadster... it seemed a freaking LIFETIME between the Murci roadsters .. and the lp700 or the Murci sv to lp700 roadster .. changing a whole body style from the AV to the next best is going to be a few year wait from last car to first

It does plenty for resale when you sell private mano a mano

trade in "$0" diiference.

We do 60k in 2 years we love that option

Not on cars,

I don't buy them on cars ever

if you dont mind me asking......why not? is it because of hoops they make you jump through to get the claims?

My theory has always been "insurance/warranty companies are in the business of making money, not paying money"........thankfully all my cars are new and have the new car warranty. but i wouldnt be surprised if the extended warranty is just an extended headache

I've done the math on it, what I have spent vs what a extended warranty costs. For me self insuring is the most economical way to go. Remember they don't sell you anything that's not in their favor. Just like a casino-every dollar you bet they are getting a piece of it.

Having said that there are a very few people who buy it and have a huge catistopic problem and the extended service contract saves their ass. Chances are that's not going to be most people.

Having said all that, I don't drive any of my cars that many miles a year. If j was going to push 30K miles a year then yeah i would probably buy a extended warranty. If I planned on keeping the car that long.

So my point is its less often correct to buy a policy than to buy one.

How far you driving?

How long you plan to keep the car?

Most people don't drive far as they think they are.

The people selling those contracts pitch them "you just blew 500k, what's another couple dollars to know your gonna be good for a longer period of time?" It's a easy sale for the pitch man and his commish is pretty strong, so they step up the pressure lines.

Don't fall for it, unless your really gonna drive the piss out of it

Buying used you have to factor in previous use...largely unknown. So the PO could of driven it hard and the extended warranty could save you from having to pay for his use.

What does the $10k cover? Can you research that and share the results? I would go to the dealer and ask them if the policy being offered covers the usual big ticket items and if they would accept it.

I believe the $10k provides the owner with a 2 year extension of the factory warranty terms associated with a new car. I am one of those that appreciates a warranty - shoot, on my SL the air con went out on me and was replaced at no cost. I believe the warranty on the Gallardos was like $7.5k, almost all of which would have been eaten up just from the AC. It is reassuring knowing what my maximum economic exposure to a car will be, coupled with the fact that when selling you can say "of course everything is mechanically perfect, the car is still under warranty."
