JanDaMan Report post Posted November 3, 2014 Still looking at adding a Murci some day for my bucket list, Ithaca green. But anyone have a good pros & cons list for manual trans vs egear? I have a few high HP modified Panteras, and am just used to manual shifting. Drove a Vantage a few months ago, and paddle shift was ok & easy to get used to. Searched the forum and found some opinions, but pros & cons of each would be good o see.
szabo_martin Report post Posted November 3, 2014 Pros manual: less complicated, more satisfying, less maintenance. Pros egear: if on a demanding road can focus more on the road, footwell tight on murci so one less pedal Looking back in hindsight I would never buy an egear again over a manual.....but hey...that's me....lp670 with a stick is the grail
LamboNutter Report post Posted November 3, 2014 manual all the way. full involvement, full control. that massive gearstick, and the decisive movements it needs is a great event while driving. Its almost like a workout, lol. You better be awake when driving one, but I see that as a positive.
Assman Report post Posted November 3, 2014 Verde manual murcie going to be hard to find. Egear is better for traffic. I prefer manual, hence why I bought one.
LA_Brit Report post Posted November 3, 2014 Just bought a manual LP640...Egear wasn't even a consideration.

sonnythebull Report post Posted November 4, 2014 Having had a 6 speed Murcie and now an e gear LP640 I would say both are equally awesome in their own way. No complaints

I have always been a manual kind of guy, when I get my first Lambo I will go manual all the way.
Assman Report post Posted November 4, 2014 Other egear negatives: Potential quicker wear of clutch necessitating expensive replacement more often. Potential Failure of egear components stranding car and necessitating expensive repair. Jerky ride starting from a stop. szabo_martin Report post Posted November 4, 2014 Thats the biggest one, if anything fails your stuck...and there are so many components that can fail
sonnythebull Report post Posted November 4, 2014 A lot of the e gear failure and the jerking from stop is people who can't drive them right, clutch wear too. Here's some tips... 1. Learn how to work a throttle smoothly 2. Always start the car in neutral that way the clutch isn't dragging. 3. Always put the car in neutral at stop sign, stop light or when stopped anywhere for more than a couple seconds. 4. You can't shift with the throttle open. Lift a bit at every shift. Car will shift way smoother and last longer. Drive it like a manual with no clutch

D.Wiggs Report post Posted November 4, 2014 I love the Murci manuals. Been driving them for almost 9 years. Any e-gear Murci can easily (albeit not cheaply) made into a proper manual so find the color you like and don't worry about the transmission it came with. Looked at that option for an SV; before I found mine. Bad advice, it would kill the re-sale in my opinion; unless done by the factory, and they will not do it. And it can always be turned back to sell if it's that big of a deal. There would be no reason it would kill it that badly if it's done with all factory parts. D.Wiggs Report post Posted November 4, 2014 What would you need? Pedal set, shifter box and ecu? Pedal set, shifter and shifter gate, and line from clutch to tranny. We then removed the flappy paddles just because. Expensive but we had it done in 2 days. Car doesn't even know that it's not e-gear, LOL I recommend the short shift kit from MA carbon. PoKnow Report post Posted November 4, 2014 What's considered expensive? Also wondering about the cost of the conversion vs some of the high dollar issues with the egear (actuator?)
Allan-Herbie Report post Posted November 5, 2014 Try egear in stop and go traffic going uphill...... or slowly doing a uturn ...
D.Wiggs Report post Posted November 5, 2014 More info on this please! I can't believe you don't need a 6mt tranny! The E-Gear IS a 6-speed manual tranny. It just is an electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated one. In other words, a computer and mechanics do the shifting for you when you pull a paddle. Everything else is identical. What's considered expensive? If we did it, you're looking at roughly a $25k conversion out the door if memory serves. Also wondering about the cost of the conversion vs some of the high dollar issues with the egear (actuator?) I think it's money well spent Try egear in stop and go traffic going uphill...... or slowly doing a uturn ... Or backing up hill ANYWHERE. sonnythebull Report post Posted November 5, 2014 Try egear in stop and go traffic going uphill...... or slowly doing a uturn ... Not a problem if you know how to drive. Stop and go traffic in Toromto and into and out of my underground parking. Of course I have car and motorcycle race experience not just YouTube videos. :) . Kidding!!!!! Luxeous Report post Posted November 7, 2014 My feet are way too big to have a manual so I'll the be the one to say I appreciate the egear lol! A lot of the e gear failure and the jerking from stop is people who can't drive them right, clutch wear too. Drive it like a manual with no clutch I have always heard conflicting opinions on 3 and 4. Are you sure it's best to shift into neutral at stop lights? Seems like that would be more wear on the clutch with the gear changes. I used to lift when shifting (and still do a lot almost out of habit) but I've heard you don't need to. Would love to hear some background on those 2 suggestions. Any way I can prolong my clutch is cool with me lol!
