  1. Valentine One is damn near a religion. Mine is a dirty little slut who knows where all the cops are and I love her. There is no alternative. Yes, I get falses in the city, but it really doesn't bother me at all because after a while you will be able to "read" your V1 almost like a sonar operator. For instance, if you go through what is a false on a daily basis that you have saved in one of the GPS based detectors then you very well could have it ignore the signal. However if you can interpret the information that the V1 is giving you then you could one day pick up a strange unusual signal from that normal "false" area and realize that its a cop running radar out by the gas station. I don't currently run a laser system, but it is in the future plans. One question that I have about the laser is will go off and if I choose to can they jam and/or interrupt the infrared signals coming off of the bastard object massive Infiniti SUVs?

    Survival kits.

I haven't had them long, but the Salomon Quest boots are so far my favorite pair of boots ever. I had them completely submerged (Not past the cuff though, obviously) in a creek Sunday and had dry feet still. I've been able to achieve excellent traction in technical hikes as well. They do run narrow, but if you have a narrow foot like me you will love them. Edit: Forgot a link for you: http://www.rei.com/product/780681?preferre...r:referralID=NA As for that survival bag goes a Gerber LMF Knife and a large box of condoms should just about do the trick.
  3. Also Cameta Camera, http://www.cameta.com/, has prices and packages that are just awesome. I haven't found anyone who can beat them yet.
  4. ISO is a big, big, big factor for me. I love low light photography and the better ISO range, the better I am able to get into those low light situations. As far as sensors go I am mostly familiar with the Nikon DX vs. FX sensors. Basically in a nutshell the FX is going to be more true to your 35mm piece of film and your DX (Depending on sizes) will more or less resemble a 23 mm piece of film. I don't know if that helps, but that FX means that you can use a wider range of higher grade professional lenses and your pictures are going to look much more stunning compared to a DX sensor camera. Now, the modern DX sensors are just fine and look great too, and especially fit in your price range. To put it in terms that most of us will understand the FX is like a girl soccer player's ass and the DX is just like a regular hot girl's ass. Both great, but the soccer player has a tendency to induce drooling and leave your jaw hanging open a little longer.
  5. "What needs to be proved today is that as long as a man has a car, he can do anything and go anywhere. Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?" - Le Matin Newspaper, France, 1907. The original rally was proposed by that newspaper in 1907 and the rally was held later that year by five competing teams, one of them rallying the Spyker 13/30 C1. I've read a little bit about it before and have found it one of the most nostalgic and inspiring rally stories ever.
  6. My next camera is going to be a Nikon D7000 http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Pro...5468/D7000.html With a lens or two it will be slightly above your price range, but from everything I've read and seen about it so far (Its yet to be released; coming soon) I've decided that it is going to be my new workhorse of sorts and will be accompanying me on a 3 week photo/writing assignment in Morocco next May for a book that I'm working on. This is honestly a mid-ranged DLSR, but it has so much packed into it and potential that it is usable from beginner to expert. You will be just fine slapping a kit lens on it, flicking the on switch, and hitting the shutter out of the box. Or, if you want to do some more technical or crazy work you can throw it into manual mode adjust just about every setting you would ever want to play with and shoot in any scenario. The camera has an extensive range of ISO settings for something in this category as well, going to a natural 6400, which means you can shoot in damn near complete darkness. There is also an HD 1080p movie mode and if I remember correctly you can now take continuous footage for up to 20 minutes. Older models had about 5 minutes of footage that they could do or else their sensor would overheat and fry. You can even expand this thing to another external battery pack and hold two SD Cards at once, a must for shooting a lot of the 1080 stuff, not to mention all of the lens options with Nikon's family of lenses. The one pitfall is that it is running a DX sensor as opposed to an FX. It sounds like you don't really need the FX though unless you are looking for professional grade material that you need to have blown up large enough to hang from a building in Times Square. Even on that level though I'm choosing to go with this camera over the others for a publication job. You will be fine for personal and family purposes. It is also compact & lightweight(unless you add the battery) and comes with a body that is constructed of magnesium, which makes it "child-proof" or from my own personal childhood experience "dad-proof." It was always Dad who dropped the camera, usually followed by Dad also dropping the F Bomb, at the peewee soccer match.

    Acupuncture

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Did either of you have issues with insurance covering the costs? I'm going to start looking for an acupuncturist in my area soon.

    Acupuncture

I've got some pretty horrible allergies/sinus problems and this year they have been acting up worse than they have been in over ten years. I'm going back on allergy shots, but honestly I'm afraid that I may have to have another sinus surgery to help give me some relief. I had an old professor of mine get acupuncture on his sinuses, but that was the first and only time I've ever heard of that practice. I've never tried any acupuncture before and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it and what your thoughts were. I was also wondering if anyone knows about using it to relieve sinus problems.
  10. Great find. Reminds me of "People of Walmart" except that we get the whole family involved.
  11. Sponsor a college kid or help invest in that college kid's developing business?
  12. My father did a nearly twenty year stint with FedEx (Mostly when it was called Federal Express). He worked his way up from driving the truck to managing the air hub here in Indy. I don't know why, but it seems like they used to be on top of their game a lot more back in the 90s than they are now. The rally team I work with has been waiting on some parts from FedEx that were supposed to be here last week... who knows. UPS got a camera to me on time earlier this week though.
  13. Oh the simple pleasures of youtube.
  14. I'm currently exploring the possiblities of extreme ironing and wakeboarding. I'll post updates.

    Fucking kids.

What about our 80mph+ civilized conversations over a cup of tea? In all seriousness though, I think we need to look at the parents. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been smoked by mommy in her SUV while she is on the phone with the kids in the car. The best part is mommy usually decides to get lippy and curse at me for being a bad driver, aka in her way, teaching horrible life skills to her offspring. Some animals leave their children at birth to fend for themselves. Sometimes I think that some kids would be better off in that kind of a situation…
  16. It doesn't have to be a large corporation that wastes time in meetings... Trust me... I keep a very irregular, yet busy schedule. Sometimes I work till 5am and then go to sleep; sometimes I get up early and finish it all up by 3pm. In the summers I'm usually very erratic like this, yet still productive. I have the ability to work and be effective at just about anytime of the day or night. When college decides to reel me back in during the fall/spring I usually get into my set school schedule where I get up around 6am and go through until the end of my classes. Some days noon, some days 9pm. A few semesters back when I was working on my photography I had one schedule that had me get up and into the dark room before the sun rose and then had me go home after the sun set. That was crazy. I've been trying to keep a schedule based around "play" in the summer though. I work my ass off during the day and with a few hours of day light left I go and hit the boat/wakeboarding sessions hard or mountain bike my ass off. I live with "Work hard; Play Harder." I've also been traveling quite a bit lately running around to different family events and with work. One thing that can become really annoying for me is I've got a few friends/family/acquaintances who don't understand being able to hold a very productive, yet unstable schedule. They go to 9-5 day jobs and I work from home and make my own hours. So I constantly get the "I've got a real job, when you grow up you will understand." Mind you I've gotten that one from people younger than me. I also get the classic, "Why don't you go and get a real job." I usually let it slide though because I know I'm getting more out of my day than they are. The only really consistant set part of my schedule is working on my Huey on Tuesday afternoons/evenings. One downfall is that I do stay busy enough that I don't get on LP as much as I'd like to be though.
  17. I must also introduce the famous, "Jocko Flocko." http://www.timflock.com/jocko.htm That's a funny quick read.

  19. When I was in high school I was lucky enough to have one of those classic insane football coaches as a gym teacher. Fortunately, he was the old crusty kind that aren't coaching anymore, but just waiting out until retirement. There were stories though... He was a unique fellow. Not only did he like the idea of purchasing a brand new dodge duely diesel back in the early/mid 90s because of the duel fuel tanks so he could increase his range and decrease stops on his way to his favorite Canadian hunting grounds, but he also liked the idea of cutting a hole in the floor so he wouldn't have to stop for a piss and further increase his driving range. This wasn't just rumor and was confirmed by alumni who had him as a coach as well as this guy himself. I got talking cars with him one day in the weight room and he flat out told me about it without me mentioning that I'd heard of his epic driving piss machine. Before that story became popular there was another one that floated around from the early/mid 80s until he retired, two years ago. Apparently during the middle of practice one day a deer was spotted just past one of the practice fields. Now, there were only two things that would stop practice for this man--a death or a hunt. Coach ran out to another old duely that he had and retrieved his shotgun. He then proceeded to track the poor animal through the cross country field which went into a wooded area and shot it. He gathered the animal, put it in the bed of his truck, and continued practice as usual. This was again confirmed by alumni who were coached by him at the time. My high school has had reputation for having hard ass crazy coaches with massive balls. Our previous coach who just retired actually had a heart attack in the middle of a game and refused to seek treatment until his team was victorious in the fourth quarter, which they were. Later our local hospital actually used him in ads after he got treatment in their facility.
  20. I have a sudden urge to become a lifeguard...
  21. Nice bike! I'm actually looking at getting a new road bike here soon. I'm a mountain biker, but I'm not that knowledgeable in road bikes. Since I'd like to concentrate on the Mt. Bikes whenever possible I'd like get something cheap (800 or less) but reliable and doable for an entire day of riding. Of course it all comes down to what feels the best while riding, but do you have any suggestions topcarbon?
