  1. Ugh. As someone that lives in Miami and used to love this town, this shit makes me cringe.
  2. All I hope for is they keep it open source. I'm afraid the industry could be in trouble if they fragment the customer base.
  3. I've been following VR for a while and have posted before that I think it is going to be 'the next big thing'. My 65 year old mother, who has no care for tech, was absolutely blown away by the DK2 when I gave her a demo and was ecstatic about where this tech could be in 10-15 years when she won't be as mobile as she is now. This, and my friends that have no interest in gaming say they want to get a PC and Oculus when they become available, makes me think there is real potential for this to catch on and have some legs on it. My take on investing in VR: Facebook picked up Oculus, but that isn't even a drop in the bucket for a $275BN company. Lets say Oculus catches on and is worth $10BN in 2017. That $8BN in appreciation is a ~3% gain in value for the company. Yeehaw. I'm betting on the chips that power the VR experience. For those who don't know, VR is VERY demanding and requires a powerful GPU to deliver a good experience. Oculus has stated that the minimum spec for the first consumer version is going to be Nvidia's GTX 970. Yes, there will be an AMD equivalent, but I think NVDA is a better run company and their balance sheet is strong as hell (I think ~$5 per share is reflective of their cash holdings). When VR catches on there are going to be LOTS and LOTS of people upgrading their GPUs and new customers coming in purchasing PCs that have these GPUs. Additionally, this serves as a bit of a mitigant, as there are several companies releasing VR headsets, but they are all useless without the computing horsepower behind them. Even if Oculus doesn't win the race, it is 99% certain that Nvidia or AMD will be powering whoever does. For what its worth, AMD is powering the Xbox One and PS4, but that only applies to this generation of console and its an open playing field going forward. I view Nvidia as a clear leader in the PC arena. So, I'm long NVDA. Been buying since ~$12 and I think my weighted cost is a little south of $17 now. They also have big upside potential from other businesses. A. Just released a streaming gaming service (think NetFlix for games). B. Automotive computing. Their chips are showing up in Audis, VWs, Teslas, etc. C. They're making a big push to be the leader in self driving cars: http://www.cnbc.com/id/102697961
  4. Hmm, I have an 11 year old V1 that has been in my closet for about 6 years... I think its time to check if they honor the 'first update is free' policy that was around when i bought it.
  5. I'm pretty sure I saw the same car last week (off of Lincoln and Alton) and it looked dated as hell from the outside.
  6. Look into flood/storm insurance ahead of time. You're probably 3' above sea level and your house will be under several feet of water during even a small storm if it isn't elevated several feet so it is not going to be cheap (if you can even get it).
  7. Maybe on Memorial Day weekend, but I've never seen it backed up that badly after they went to Sunpass at the tool booth. If you really blow it and hit both drawbridges on a busy day it could take you 45 minutes. What I love about my spot, and the same goes for the Venetian, is that if the 195 is backed up you take the 395, if the 395 is backed up you take the 195, and if they're both backed up you take the Venetian Once you make a habit of checking Google Traffic during peak times it should never be a problem.
  8. Big warning! The western most bridge on the Venetian Causeway is going to be closed on June 1st for "9 months" to be torn down and rebuilt (I'd bet its closer to 18 months). This is going to be a HUGE headache if you commute downtown or to Brickell. You will have to take the causeway east, then north or south to 195/395, then back north or south to get downtown. What used to be a 5 minute commute is about to become a 45 minute commute. With that said, the Venetian islands are beautiful and you have great access to Miami Beach and downtown/Brickell when the bridge is open. If you're OK with the closure, there may be a deal to be had since there are going to be LOTS of frustrated residents. I'd wait 3 or 4 months into the construction to see if any deals pop up. I live immediately east of the eastern most island, Belle Isle, and honestly think its the best part of Miami to live. You get all of the benefits of South Beach, but are away form the tourists and traffic that you deal with if you go any further east or south. Happy to answer any other questions. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2015/05/13/venet...cyclists-alike/ Local blog for resident discussion: https://belleisleblog.wordpress.com/
  9. Too kind. Throw him in a 5x5 cell for the next decade or two and deny him access to everything besides bread and water while they sort out the details.
  10. I'd say throw the book at her, but the backlash shes about to receive via the interweb will most likely be brutal and he will walk away with a slap on the wrist (if that)and probably end up with a kickstarter to cover legal fees, fines and pocket plenty extra for his good deed.
  11. 1.92 60' seems dog slow for that kind of 0-60, but the data doesn't lie...
  12. What is a properly launched 458 good for out of the hole? He got out even slower than the Huracan (1.92 vs 1.86). If I had to guess, I'd put a 458 at a high 1.7 and the Huracan at a mid 1.6 with good prep and launch control so I'd imagine the 458 has about 3/10 left on the table and the Huracan left about 4/10.
  13. No, it doesn't. Each lane's timer starts when its car trips the lights. Bracket racing is a different story, but that isn't the case here.
  14. Was I the only one expecting the Bill Murray / Chevy Chase Caddyshack scene when they clicked this link?
  15. Why not the best of both worlds??? The HP wars continue in the luxury sedan class while the sports cars move towards a weight race?
  16. Looks like hes on skinnies up front to me. That has to be worth a couple MPH.
  17. Temps may have been hotter, but the DA was ~730 in the runs originally posted as opposed to -300 on the more recent post. I'm basing these assumptions off a DA calculator and the slip, so I could be off. http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitu...;time=7:53%20PM
  18. When people are valuing apps that pop-up over night in the billions of dollars I am not the least bit surprised... I'm only shocked that its being done manually and not by a script. This is no different than buying Facebook 'likes' and twitter followers in mass. I'm sure the stories will continue to surface as time passes.
  19. I've seen that one and a gold-plated wrap Aventador in Sunset Harbor quite a few times. Not in love with either... to say the least.
  20. Apparently the technology is a LONG, LONG way from the as advertised content. http://www.engadget.com/2015/01/21/microso...olens-hands-on/ Microsoft pulled the same stunt of delivering a product that was no where near as polished as its promo videos with the Kinect just a few years ago.
  21. Efficient turbos at moderate boost + lots of revs = Big HP on pump gas. 800 ft lbs @ 8,000 RPM = ~1,219whp. On a race gas tune, where he can run as much boost as the turbos will flow, you'll see the torque spike earlier and fall off as RPMs increase and the turbos can't keep up.
  22. Great runs. What kind of 60' did you get out of the Telsa? Are they as fast out of the hole as people are claiming?
  23. Agreed. Right when I put my 61 year old mother in a DK2 without warning her about what to expect and hearing her, who never curses, say "HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS THIS?" and start swiping at the air in front of her I was convinced on main stream success. She followed with about 30 minutes of questions about what to expect over the next 10 years and was sold on my 'consider this Mario Brothers' analogy. Anyhow, with CV1 expected with 1440p@90hz I'm long as hell on NVDA. Most of my friends that tried it, none of whom you'd classify as 'gamers', but have the means, say they will be buying a PC + rift once they start seeing AAA titles on it.
  24. I never had too much faith in Glass catching on... my chips are on Oculus Rift (recent Facebook acquisition) being 'the next big thing' within a 5-7 year window.
