    Absolutely true, but the down time and extraordinary cost for said part is what I was referring to. Obviously a car like the one above would not be a daily driver but waiting for parts for months on end would be a prohibiting factor for me personally

    Exactly. Hydraulic windows and thoroughly over engineered german ingenuity. Plus parts availability is a serious problem. Cool ass car though

    Agreed. I bet you could use Cerakote or some of the gun coatings though possibly. Can get basically any color and the coating is much thinner than paint

    Dealers aren't in the game to save you money. That's what a good independent shop does, albeit with the same disclaimer. I do these types of things for my customers daily. As long as they are aware of that there is no guarantee I'd gladly make a repair like this.
