  1. Sweet... do you remember which site this was? I've done about 30 dives in Grand Cayman so far and loved every minute of it. They just sank the USS Kittywake there so I need to check that out. Did some in Jamaica last year and just got back from diving in St. Martin last week. Definitely need to hit up the Pacific though. Anyone have any input on the diving in the FL Keys? Looking for a place I can do quick weekend getaway dives at and I think the Keys or NC would do, although I've heard mixed things about NC. #1 on my bucket list is 12 days on the liveaboard at Cocos Island though. They have a 3 man sub that can go down to 1800 ft. Thousands of sharks, whales, mantas, etc... seems like the ultimate spot. http://www.underseahunter.com/uh.htm
  2. Kudos for a carefully selected list... If I had time I'd dig up even more that were clearly political/ideological in nature (Lincoln, McKinley, MLK, RFK, attempt on Truman, most likely JFK, etc... and that's just in the U.S.) Point is, the kid was angry about school, but didn't shoot his teacher. He was angry about his job, but didn't shoot his boss. He went to a political event and put a gun 12" from his representative's head. Keep in mind I'm not saying that it's the fault of the media.. I don't think that's the case at all. But it certainly doesn't help. I think we can all agree that videogames and movies don't make people violent. They're clearly in the realm of entertainment, and I think that even most crazy people can understand that. However, when mainstream politicians, public figures, TV/radio hosts, and bloggers regularly assert that the president is an illegal alien hellbent on ruining the country, or that representatives who voted for healthcare reform are fascists intent on instituting death panels to kill off senior citizens, or that democrats are actually secret socialist-fascist-communist-muslims who must be neutralized, I can see how crazy people could begin to think it was totally normal to consider shooting shit up. The looneybin rhetoric has moved out of the fringe and become part of our day to day normalcy, complete with affirmation by mainstream "non crazy" types, so it seems perfectly sane to talk about second amendment remedies and taking guns to your opponent's events. What I think is more important to look into is a) after all the signs pointing to this kid being nuts, why wasn't he treated in any way.. and how was someone painted as being so obviously nuts by people who knew him able to legally purchase a gun and 30 round magazine? I don't have a problem with guns, but I have a problem with batshit crazy people being able to buy guns.
  3. Shooting a politician in the head is typically a political event...
  4. A movie and an episode of Frontline about the credit card industry... both worth watching: http://www.maxedoutmovie.com/clips/trailer.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/credit/view/ Probably the most interesting portion is Ben Stein on Frontline talking about how he has never paid interest on a credit card, and is therefore labeled a deadbeat by the banks because he pays off his balances every month. It's a strange industry.
  5. Man that's awful. Long story short but I had a heart stoppage issue at 26 and spent a week in the ICU.. did a stress test there and a follow-up 4 months later. During the treadmill run on the second test, I couldn't breath, felt like my heart and head were going to explode, thought I was going to pass out and fall on my face, etc. I've never come so close to punching a woman before, but the nurses/doctor would not let me stop the treadmill. They kept saying "oh you're young, you'll be fine.." When I finally got off I was hyperventilating, fell on the floor, and got an oxygen mask. When I could finally breath again I lit the place up. Never been so pissed in my life... I can't imagine how this guy must have felt, but I hope his family sues the shit out of those guys. Yes they were doing their job, but I'd bet money the patient made it clear he needed to stop.
  6. The 599 was available with a standard transmission, but only a handful of people ordered them.
  7. I just proved him right by spending 15 minutes at work watching that I do agree with him 100% though, especially about meetings at work.
  8. Wouldn't due diligence involve hearing about the experiences of other customers? If a turner wrecked your car and then asked you for money to pay for it and his injuries, you wouldn't want potential future clients to know about the situation so they could make their own judgment about whether or not to use that shop? If no one knows about these things, how is anyone supposed to perform due diligence?
  9. The guy owns a $400,000 car... but can't afford insurance for his business? What's with all the excuses covering for this loser?
  10. Probably should. The good news is that you'll have plenty of time to read up on the rules during the game. While the play clock runs for 60 minutes, the actual time that the ball is in play averages about 12 minutes a game, and it takes about 2.5-3 hours from start to finish. Bring a book and a pillow.
  11. Dude don't put a dime more than you need to into a car that you don't *really* want... drive the cheapest POS you can find until you're ready to buy the car of your dreams. Anything else is just pissing money away. If you're just commuting, a car is a car. Get a used Camry or whatever for $10k and you'll be $20k closer to your Gallardo than if you bought the BMW.
  12. I still think the Dumb and Dumber one was the best.. it really does look like a movie about some psychos.
  13. 100% agree. If you're gonna get black wheels you might as well get Ronal Teddy Bears or some old steelies without hubcaps. You can't see the shape and there's no contrast with the tire, making it look like a big black blob.
  14. Jesus Christ I was there that week and saw him every day. What a tool.. That's one place I will *never* go back to. Picture a resort with about 80 other guys like him and maybe 30 fat old women... horrifying.
  15. Ah well.. it'll still be fun. When I was there I wandered around half of the track and couldn't see anything. Luckily a guy I knew didn't feel like watching so I got his ticket in the grandstands at turn 8 I think. There's a good party at the beer sponsors in the midfield area, definitely stick around afterward for that. Otherwise, go anywhere in the city and there will be a party going.
