These guys are real players alright - both dating the same woman AT THE SAME TIME - one for 8 years, one for 5 years. Both ready to marry her. Both not using condoms. I guess she is the real player.

Here is my favorite:

"You had to see, she kept calling me B.I.G. and my name is Jay-Z, she was all on my dick"

:lol2: That line was cooold. I love the double meaning. Direct to Nas, describing the affair Jay-Z had with Nas' ex-girlfriend."

Or, the Sean Paul diss, when he was trying to get at Beyonce on the set of baby boy:

"Look but don't touch motherfucker think twice, cuz that gat that I clutch got a little red light...need a light"?

Jay-Z tore up Nas HARD in every song, ahahah. How Ether was voted as being the better diss? I have no clue.

Well, it was a NYC radio station call in vote...nothing more, nothing less. Considering Jay Z's stronger popularity in 2001, and Nas having lost a lot of relevance leading up to that battle...this was a pretty significant win.

Musically, "Takeover" was better (Kanye West sampling The Doors "5 to 1", and David Bowie's "Fame" very, very well), and the lyrics were wittier.

However I felt that "Ether" took some legitimate, no nonsense shots at Jay Z...it almost seemed impossible that he could be exposed, yet was. He's copied rhymes from BIG, Snoop, and sampled Nas twice...was probably not as good as Eminem on "Renegade", and was a bit too cocky.

It almost seemed impossible that the Patriots could lose to the Giants in the superbowl...:)

As a fan of the art, it's a shame that the two could not collaborate until 2006. Nas was asked to be on Reasonable Doubt, declined, and that pretty much was the foundation for the beef.

Jigga has had the better career no doubt...his ability to balance music quality, lyric quality, flow, street music, pop music at such high and consistent levels is uncanny.

Having said that, album for album, I don't think either Reasonable Doubt or Ready to Die in their primes was as legendary as Illmatic in its prime.

Draw.

As the son of a son of a sailor

I went out on the sea for adventure

Expanding the view of the captain and crew

Like a man just released from indenture

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin man

I have chalked up many a mile

Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks

And I learned much from both of their styles

Chorus:

Son of a son, son of a son

Son of a son of a sailor

Son of a gun, load the last ton

One step ahead of the jailer

Now away in the near future

Southeast of disorder

You can shake the hand of the mango man

As he greats you at the border

And the lady she hails from trinidad

Island of the spices

Salt for your meat, and cinnamon sweet

And the rum is for all your good vices

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind

That our forefathers harnessed before us

Hear the bells ring as the tight rigging sings

Its a son of a gun of a chorus

Where it all ends I cant fathom my friends

If I knew I might toss out my anchor

So I cruise along always searchin for songs

Not a lawyer a thief or a banker

But a son of a son, son of a son

Son of a son of a sailor

Son of a gun, load the last ton

One step ahead of the jailer

Im just a son of a son, son of a son

Son of a son of a sailor

The seas in my veins, my tradition remains

Im just glad I dont live in a trailer

his latest one is pretty good after few listens too.
agreed

"For the Color Of Money like a Tom Cruise flick

'Cept I put 8-balls in corners without using pool sticks" - Jay-Z

"Ain't nothing cool bout carryin' a strap

Bout worryin' your moms And buryin' your best cat

Talkin' bout revenge While carryin' his casket

All teary-eyed Bout to take it to a matress" - Jay-Z

"I'm in the Hall already, on The Wall already

I'm a work of art, I'm a Warhol already

On another level, on another plane already

H-O-V, I got my own lane, already" - Jay-Z

Theres a few more, but IMO BP3 has a lot of clever verses instead of lines.

:iamwithstupid: I hate all these stupid hoods rapping about their cars, jewls and ho's. If I had to have a favorite though it would be:

So chickity-check yo self before you wreck yo self

Come on and check yo self before you wrickity-wreck yo self

So chickity-check yo self before you wreck yo self

Cause big dicks up yo ass is bad for yo health

Yep. I like his style because it does change from track to track.

Love onto the next one

Used to rock a throwback

Ballin on the corner

Now I rock a tailored suit

Lookin like a owner

No I'm not a Jonas

Brother, I'm a grown up

No I'm not a virgin

I use my kahonas

I move onward

The only direction

And Off that is too clever to take in the first listen.

Then why were you singing all the songs at the club in Vegas?

Haha. :icon_mrgreen:

I've been a big rap fan for a long time but also can be very annoyed at some of the annoying aspects of the genre.

A few things I HATE:

  • Excessive talk about ghetto shit, like I give a fcuk
  • Stupid gestures in videos that I'm supposed to think is cool
  • Complaining about white people....the 75-80% of their PURCHASING fanbase
  • The arrogance of how hip hop "culture" is changing America

Other than that, the genre is ok I guess. Will definitely be a staple for party and club music for years to come, so that will keep it relevant, IMHO.

There is Hip Pop which is most of the garbage that infest the radios, is mostly driven by the production of the beat, or who sings the hook and is usually about chrome rims, 26s, money and all that bullshit, and then there is Hip Hop, which is lyrically driven and has meanings.

Example.

Hip Pop

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm hot kid

Chains so low you would think that diamonds never stop it

And it's funny cause you could never stop it

A bunch of rocks on my hand 'n I ain't even on the block yet

Show 'em white gold sorta hold 'em like my tims

An' a chain hang 24 inches like the rims

Diamonds all blown up yeah sorta like a pimp

So when I like hit the ice

It starts glistening off the tims (off the tims)

This is one of the worst songs of any genre of music ever. I will not even link you to this to save you from getting this annoying as song stuck in your head.

Now for a selection of Hip Hop.

40% of Americans own a cell phone

so they can hear, everything that you say when you ain't home

I guess, Michael Jackson was right, "You Are Not Alone"

Rock your hardhat black cause you in the Terrordome

full of hard niggaz, large niggaz, dice tumblers

Young teens and prison greens facin life numbers

Crack mothers, crack babies and AIDS patients

Young bloods can't spell but they could rock you in PlayStation

This new math is whippin motherfuckers ass

You wanna know how to rhyme you better learn how to add

It's mathematics

This is Mathetmatics by Mos Def. Mos is considered one of the most gifted lyricist out there.
