Live debut of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon in New York City.

That was like watching porn. Best car reveal I've seen.

Wow, the muscle car era is back!!! However, I am disappointed that with all these advances in the Challenger platform, they let the Viper die. I do think it will be back in a few years. Go Dodge. Now if Chevy comes out with the midengined Zoro, it'll be even better.

I would actually be really interested in one of these (with all the seats) but I have to agree with others, if they are over MSRP it's just not worth it. Would rather get a Tesla at $130k.

Well Good Luck, the extra seats will only run you $2.00 Vic

The Viper is probably just a victim of its time. You have to give Dodge credit for making the same car for about 25 years and not really abandoning it. They did something very few companies outside of Porsche does with the 911 and that is constant refinement of a design. Even the POS changes enough generation to generation to qualify mostly as a different car.

Close to same wheelbase, chassis, tire size....same engine design, etc. no?

That's ok with me but I know many who need dramatic change every few years.

If only they played with that 8.4 V10 to make it sound like a proper monster, it'd probably still be alive. No doubt Ferrari could have helped out in this department like they have with Maserati and Alfa motors.

Ok, some questions on the new Demon:

1. Will it be available with a manual transmission?

2. Will it be able to outhandle a Hellcat?

It's very possible the answers to the above are no, which means that a Hellcat in current form still has room to be sold in the Challenger lineup, IMO.

And while clearly not on the same handling level, I found that the Hellcat ran the Ring in 7:50 while an F50 ran it in 7:47. It's got to be a fun beast to throw around if you've got the chops.

Unsure if the transmission/superchargers problems are inherent with the design or just owners beating the crap of it at the strip.

I don't think your going to get a transbrake on a manual car. Handling wise, no. It has drag shocks and skinny front tires if you put them on like they show the car.

Well obviously no transbrake on a manual car, but figured it would be clear to those who know drag racing that it is for autos. Wasn't sure if they were going to outright exclude the stickshift.

Figured the wider tires all around would help a little bit over the Hellcat and maybe the suspension tuning wasn't going to take away too much, but I guess it will.

So with that said there is justification to keep the Hellcat along with the Demon, but chances are they feel it will cannibalize sales so probably will die.

BTW, for those who will own both of these cars, now owning an A8 Hellcat would be redundant.

I'm interested to see what they did to reinforce the driveline. The Hellcat was a ticking time bomb on drag radials. Tons of videos out there of driveshaft and axles breaking when launching on a prepped track.

It has electronic bilsteins, you can make the shocks do whatever tou want.

I net the handling isnt as bad as everyone is imagining, provided you have decent tires under it.

It will still do wheelies with the 315's up front.

Pennzoil did that Hellcat airlift commercial last year and might soon do one for the Demon.

Here's Rhys Millen doing more of his kick ass driving in this Last Viper tribute:
