Andrew R. Report post Posted December 22, 2017 Anyone headed down to watch the Lamborghini GT3 in Daytona? The weather will be a bit nicer than Michigan.. so I am thinking about it! (and I have never been to a GT3 event, it looks like a great time!) Link to register and more info on the event.
Supercar Ace Report post Posted December 22, 2017 I'd love to go but don't have the time. I will be cheering for my friends who will driving in the race though
LuisGT3 Report post Posted January 30, 2018 I'm surprised that nobody bumped this thread. This was the first time Lamborghini won their class (GTD) in a major 24H endurance Imsa race which is a BIG deal: The Grasser Racing Team quartet of Mirko Bortolotti, Rolf Ineichen, Franck Perera, and Rik Breukers took GT Daytona class honors in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, scoring the first 24-hour race win for the Lamborghini Huracan GT3. After starting from the back of the GTD field (21st place) in the No. 11 Lamborghini for failing a series-mandated stall test after qualifying, the team made steady progress through the field and cracked the top-five in class by the end of the first hour and the lead by the halfway point. My buddy Peter Lapinski was there shooting the event and got a few good pics: This was actually a pretty great shot he took right after he got out of the car from winning the race

RedGTS Report post Posted January 30, 2018 Awesome job by Lambo. Wonder when was the last time neither Porsche nor Ferrari was on the podium in the 24? Apparently the new Porsche 911 RSR isn't competitive, which seems shocking (and is ironic as it's mid-engine after all those years winning with the engine in the rear). SV-N-IT Report post Posted January 30, 2018 Great job Lambo, Huracan is a beast! Huracan is an animal! I wonder if these cars use ALA?
LuisGT3 Report post Posted January 30, 2018 Porsche (and is ironic as it's mid-engine after all those years winning with the engine in the rear). There might be something there. They qualified 3 & 4th place which isn't bad but this Lambo started the race in 21st place and ended up winning. A lot can happen in 24 hours though, that's why these endurance races are so great. CHADW Report post Posted January 30, 2018 Porsche has no power and has been relying on balance of power (BOP). Lambo and Ford sandbag in qualifying to keep their power advantage. Lambo went from last to fifth in the first lap I believe and only started last due to a penalty. Porsche made the wrong call on staying naturally aspirated and expecting enough help from the BOP to be competitive. They know how to build a race car, they lost this season in the boardroom. I can’t imagine them not having turbos soon.

Tough to sandbag these days, IMSA has access to live data, at the roar they parked a couple of cars for this specific reason

Porsche made the wrong call on staying naturally aspirated and expecting enough help from the BOP to be competitive. They know how to build a race car, they lost this season in the boardroom. I can’t imagine them not having turbos soon. I wouldn't say Ford sandbagged qualifying. The BoP was essentially the same as it was for Petit Le Mans except a couple degrees of wing and the car was close to last there. GT is just built for tracks with long high speed straights. Still has the max ballast and least boost out of the smallest engine. They never detail HP levels but you can look at the BoP table and see it's making dick for power relative to the other FI cars. Sebring will be a different story. Last year until the RSR ran over the hose and took the penalty it literally looked like it was racing in Fast Forward relative to the GT and C7R over the last couple minutes. It was a weird race without Previously Crashed out there causing 25 cautions.
