  1. The Drive Network on youtube just posted this teaser earlier today... if it's half as enjoyable as the first one, it's going to be a great mini series to watch! For those that haven't seen the first one yet, here's the link:
  2. Depending on where your interest lies: Creating websites - HTML/CSS (must have for the front end) and Ruby or PHP (backend) Mobile Applications - iOS = Objective C, Android = Java With the mobile options, if you don't have any preferences with what kind of device you want to develop for... Objective C isn't really used outside of Apple products, while Java has a wider array of applications outside of the mobile space.

    Google glass

Car related apps might be screwed if things like this outlaw using Google glass while driving: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/25/...EA1O0P920140225
  4. Also, it's pretty awesome having vesa mounts on your monitors so that you can put them on stands
  5. Hopefully someone else on here from the U.S. will be able to suggest somewhere where you can go My suggestion for monitors was based on you saying that you currently have a 22" (1680x1050) and two 17"s (1280x1024) which leads me to believe that the 17" monitors are probably quite old. Having another larger and higher resolution display (16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio) to replace at least one of the 17"s will give you more screen space to work so you can have more trading windows open at a time. For me at least, I would rather be able to see more on my screens at once instead of getting a performance bump. Also, when you're buying your new computer don't forget to make sure that you have the correct adaptors for your monitors to plug into your video card. For example, the R7 250 that was suggested earlier has the following three outputs: hdmi, vga and dvi. You may need to spend $10-$50 buying the correct adaptors and cables so that your monitors can connect.
  6. I know you're excited to purchase a new computer (this happens to me all the time and I end up wasting $700 on a graphics card), but your budget seems to have gone from under $1000 to the roughly $2000 dollar range. As others have said before, The only real thing you need is an SSD (128GB size will be fine, especially since you say you will probably get an extra HDD... the only difference is the extra space), a modern i5 processor (MORE than fast enough) and a graphics card that can support triple monitors to get all the performance you need for a trading system. The original post by Pumcy reflects pretty much all of this at $900. Everything else is just luxury (especially since this computer is supposed to be for work purposes)! Some other things I'm going to say: 1. The digital storm pc build that you posted seems like a rip. They are charging $2000 for a bunch of no name components (RAM and crappy graphics card), and I don't see any reason to run an aftermarket heatsink for your CPU unless you are overclocking it. 2. I live in Canada, so I don't really know what stores to suggest for the States, but up here we have places like NCIX and Memory Express that do most of their sales online at great prices, but also have retail stores that will spec a computer out for you and build it for around $100. 3. If you really DO have excess money to spend, can I suggest getting yourself some better monitors? I think this would be money much better spent than spending another $100-$200 on a network card / better CPU / other stuff just to eke out what I consider a very MINOR performance gain.
  7. Looks like he took the pictures down, they aren't on his site anymore.
  8. Can't really say much about the first computer in the link you gave because they don't really tell you much about what parts are actually going into it other than the processor and motherboard. Pumcy's suggestion is pretty good. I've been out of the computer hardware game too long to give you an actual parts list, but what he posted seems to cover the essentials. Make sure you get an SSD as it helps significantly with boot / other load times. What monitors are you going to be using? Make sure you get a video card that can handle the native resolutions of your monitor.
  9. I just want to point out that the fact that the machines still run XP has nothing to do with the integrity of the actual system. The reason that they run an old version of an operating system is because it's had more time to mature and have security loopholes patched up. That being said, come April, Microsoft will not offer support for XP anymore, so the banks will have to move to new software soon (and there will probably be more problems at that point too).
  10. Ugh, do they have to use a picture of him without his shirt on in every news article about this douche? +1 on the ass rapage
  11. Video of Arnold Schwarzenegger working undercover at Gold's gym to raise awareness for his charity: He apparently also posted a bunch of movie quote videos too if you look through his youtube channel. For example:
  12. I have this stuff on a few of my mountain bike frames. Looks great, but it does tend to flake if I knock or scratch it on something. Probably would fare better with a clear coat on top.
  13. Hi everyone! I've mostly been a lurker for a few months now and figured I would join in and share my very small collection that I mostly use when out camping. My favorite out of the bunch is probably the benchmade 580. It was one of my first knife purchases, and in hindsight I kind of wish I bought the plain edge version because I personally don't really find the serration that useful. If anything, I feel it detracts from the actual useable portion of the knife (it makes up almost half the blade!). Anyways... now I know not to buy a serrated knife in the future just because it looks cooler than the plain edge version
  14. I'll take one please: On another note, I also like your configurator better than the official one, LamboCars. Yours still has way more features that let you customize the car than the real one does, and I also like the views better (the official one almost seems kind of gimmicky with how you have to navigate around... just let me configure the damn car!). Keep up the good work and don't lose faith in updating it if you have the time!
  15. No no, you got it all wrong! In the spirit of Christmas, here you guys go! Happy Holidays everyone!
  16. You can see the new wrap on Brian's car here: instagram
  17. Needs one of those reaction videos with the driver going WOT.
  18. Maybe you need to order one too to keep yourself preoccupied during the wait!
  19. If the production run is anything like the Gallardo's that may be another 10 years down the road, so who knows what it will have?

    REMOTE book

http://37signals.com/remote/ Anyone else going to be picking this gem up? Based on how much I loved REWORK and Getting Real, I'm sure this will be a great read!
  21. You should see if you can find a local store that specializes in audio equipment to find your mom the perfect pair of headphones/earbuds for her. I recently bought my girlfriend a pair of new earbuds and took her to a store where she was able to try out 10+ different high-end pairs. What she ended up liking the most was different than what I would I have chosen. Everyone has their own preferences so the key here is to have her TRY THEM!! Also, imo try to avoid going to a place like Best Buy when you're looking for the headphones. It's kind of the same with their computers... you're going to end up overpaying lots of $$ and end up paying a premium for something that is only mediocre like Beats by Dre.
