  1. The criminal case is said and done. But now that video is out, every person in AZ (and much of the country) has seen it and Mark Geragos is ready to file a civil suit against the Mesa PD. How much of a financial bloodbath is this going to be for the city? Do they just write an eye watering settlement check, or let this get drawn out in the public eye for a year in trial (and still lose)? LP pool on what this will cost the city? I'm thinking round about $15m.
  2. I get all of that, and still cant justify it. The guy was in shorts so loose they were falling off. Ever tried to wasteband carry a pistol? Its impossible in clothes that loose. The circus act is what i cant understand. Lay face down, arms out and send in a couple officers to handcuff him, problem solved. Putting several rounds into the top of his head from point blank seems wildly excessive.
  3. In a house they just bought? Did the insurance company determine the costs/values? Are they on the CA high risk policy?
  4. No doubt runoff control is one of the mismanaged aspects of southern california. The coastal commission and other environmental groups think the runoff is absolutely necessary to protect the shoreline environment in the fcuking ocean... seriously. So the idea of building more reservoirs and capturing/percolating the runoff is essentially not up for discussion, despite the fact that it would all but eliminate any drought issues. There isn't a feasible way to have permeable concrete on a high traffic area, the stuff just isn't up to the task of supporting billions of pounds of impact over decades, but A LOT more can be done in other areas. Kinsella, i've got a donation coming for your neighbors. Being semi-local, if there is anything we can do to help don't hesitate to ask.
  5. fcuk YEAH! So many congrats man, I hope it's everything we all imagine it would be. You need a multi-Bugatti owner tag. Is that Rhyno's SV in the background?
  6. Sure, markets that were tied to debt repayment against assets or other major economic drivers. How does this factor into any of that? And who says this is at all tied to a single country?
  7. Amazing spec! V-Bug (btw where has that dude been lately?) definitely needs one to match his BN 50th Avy Roadster.
  8. It's used very much as a paint prep product, so while it shouldn't damage the paint, it's going to strip EVERYTHING from the surface, including waxes. If that's what it takes to get it removed, plan on having the car detailed when you're done.
  9. Is the car clear bra wrapped or just bare paint? Just avoid anything with aggressive chemicals like heptanes, or hydrocarbon based, etc. I would trust R3 above them all, but Wurth spray solvent or stoner tarminator have served well in the past.
  10. Any decent torque wrench will work provided it's rated high enough. I don't know the lambo spec, but P cars are 600nm (works out to 444 ft/lbs). You'll want something rated to at least 600 ft-lbs to do it safely. Snap-On version is $800. Contact a local distributor and they will bring you one if you want it. https://store.snapon.com/US-Torque-Instrume...ve-P891640.aspx For home use, you're probably better off with a gear multiplier and a more normal spec torque wrench. https://store.snapon.com/Geared-Head-Multip...g--P634899.aspx + https://store.snapon.com/US-Torque-Instrume...b--P874542.aspx The 50-250 wrench can be used on all kinds of more typical things. The big one is cool but with a 120 ft/lbs minimum it's pretty much useless for the average person, outside of torquing your centerlock wheels. Be sure you read the factory manual on installing the wheels, many times they have a torque step process you should follow.
  11. Started watching Goliath (it's on Amazon) with my wife over the weekend. If you like Billy Bob Thornton being as Billy Bob as he can be, you'll enjoy it. All the piss and vitriol of Bad Santa dressed up as an attorney trying to do something decent.
  12. Started watching the miniseries Godless, its quite good.
  13. It's ridiculously simple. Plug the hub onto your router and setup an account (free, no recurring charges). Then dowmload the app to any/all devices yoy want. When you add accessories, you pair them similar to pairing your phone via bluetooth in the car, but it stays constantly connected. You can then rename the accessory (switch, outlet, doorbell, etc) so you know what or where it is. Porch lights, landscape, Romans Dungeon, etc. From there you can operatre the switch remotely from your phone, computer etc. Or you can give it simple automations. They can be as simple or complex as you lile. The simple side is selecting things from a (pretty elaborate) options menu. Odds are you will never need to go beyond the standard list. For instance: My porch lights come on 30min before dusk and stay on until 1am. Since i have 7 wall sconces with 100w equivelent LED bulbs, full brightness is damn near daylight. So i have them kick on at 50% dimmer level. But, i have a ring pro doorbell. If anyone walks with the pretty nutty range of it and trips the motion sensor, the porch lights go to 100%. If its anytime after the standard 1am cutoff, they still come on at 100%, and shut off 10 minutes after the last motion sensor activity. During daylight hours they are off and nothing happens. Want some specific lights to kick on anytime you arrive home? Super easy. Tie multiple non-connected circuits together? Super easy. Dim all the lights in a room to 20% when you're watching a movie? Simple press of a single button. Have a schlage connect door lock? Now you can lock or unlock it from anywhere your phone has service. And tell it to turn on lights when you unlock the door. Each one of those thongs takes about 30 seconds to program via dropsown menus. Its IFTTT, If this then that. It all interfaces with alexa as well if you want it to.
  14. Yeah, that looks like a solid option. Hit that with a 1/16" bit and you'll be good to go. Then go drive the shit out of it and see if they remain in place
  15. Yup, that's the same shit NHRA pro cars run. I see heim jointed control arms.
  16. I can only wonder. Maybe someone confused neutral with ground? Some older homes here (built pre 1950's) have 2 wire with a grounding sheeth and metal boxes. Even most 'handy' guys understand very little about electricity and basic household wiring so it doesn't surprise me. I just bought a 1000v insulated Wiha screwdriver, upping my electrical game at least 50%.
  17. Well think about it this way (say like a piston in an engine), when the caps are installed, you're already creating positive pressure as soon as the O-Ring contacts the wheel nut, and you push it into place (piston compressing air essentially). Typically this small bit of pressure would dissipate over time, but these parts are machined to tight enough tolerances they must be pretty much air tight. With a 2" diameter cap you have 3.14 square inches of surface space, so it wouldn't take much pressure to apply some real force there. 3 PSI (pretty easily achievable if you get 150F temp swing) would have about 10psi behind the cap when fully seated. I asked about the cap being plastic because it looks like there is a metal cover tabbed over the top. It wouldn't be hard to drill a small hole in the plastic without piercing the metal face plate, but this would still be enough to let the air pressure equalize. It wouldn't take much more than a pinhole to get the job done. It wouldn't surprise me if they use off the shelf o-rings as tube dampeners. Now you know where to buy your own They are absolutely used as drive belts on small assemblies and work very well so long as the drive isn't position sensitive requiring a cog belt. It's pretty amusing we can all geek out on O-Rings
  18. mcmaster-carr, your one stop shop for literally fcuking everything odd/random/mechanical. https://www.mcmaster.com/#viton-fluoroelast...-rings/=1acv8b8 Just need to know the width and ID. The required force to pry it off could be a vacuum seal. A dial caliper could pretty easily tell you if the o-ring is seating into the receiver groove in the wheel or not. It should give you a pretty reassuring feeling when it gets into place.
  19. It could, but is highly suspect. Also consider 'too hot to touch' doesn't translate to "super hot" in the materials world. 200F will feel too hot to touch but most materials are essentially unaffected. EPDM is good to ~300F and Viton to ~400F. I would be absolutely shocked if your wheel hubs are anywhere in this ballpark. It's possible they used a completely shit o-ring that fails well under 200F, but again, that would be surprising. I'm pretty curious to see what the fix is. Anyone want to spend $4 on some viton o-rings and swap them out to test?
  20. 100% you have a neutral wire. If you remove the cover plate you'll see a white wire, possibly several all twisted together with a single wire nut. That is the neutral wire.
  21. Well that's an interesting thought. If the whole thing is sealed tight enough, if it it got sufficiently warm the air pressure temp change could result in positive pressure behind the cap. With such a very small air volume i'm shocked it would be enough to dislodge the cap, but it's something to consider. Has anyone confirmed that drilling a hole in the cap solves the problem?
  22. Saw it (I don't particularly like superhero movies anyway), it sucked balls. If you're considering seeing this, go see Thor instead. If you've seen Thor already, just see it again.
  23. What year was your house built? I don't have any personal experience with that setup, but I hear they work well, though you also have to buy the lutron bridge to get them to work with other smarthome devices (smart things, etc).
