My new Insanely fast SPI 997TT Tip

The past 1.5 weeks I have been messing around with this silver 07 911 turbo tiptronic I bought that has been upgraded by tiny tym swiss cheese. I figured I would have some fun driving this while my black 6 speed manual 911 turbo car is getting upgraded by tiny tym with the Sledgehammer package. The Sledgehammer is the same package that ran 9.7 in the quarter about a month or so ago. This tip car puts out over 600 to all 4 wheels and is a very easy car to drive fast or slow.

If I had 2 words to sum this car up I would use, "Streetlight Crusher." It has the ability to put every bit of the power down to the ground from a stop, and the modified VTG turbos spool very quickly. I am running the stock PS2 tires, and I have been doing Vbox runs for the past several days, improving my times each time I have taken the car out. This morning it was 50-55 degrees, and I took the car out again for some runs.

The results are beyond impressive as very little out there can even come close to this car on the street from 0-100mph. The car puts out repeatable numbers and is very easy to brake boost and launch consistently.

Best 0-60 and 0-100mph run

0-10 0.2

0-20 0.6

0-30 1.0

0-40 1.4

0-50 1.9

0-60 2.4

0-70 3.0

0-80 4.1

0-90 5.0

0-100 5.9

On another run, I was able to squeak by a quarter mile run, I had to lay off the gas about 35 feet from the end of the quarter as I was running out of road, so my max speed was 133.5mph, but I was going 132.9mph at the end. Still an impressive result on that run.

Accel results

Speed(mph) Time(s)

0-60 02.5

0-100 05.9

Accel Distance results

Distance() Time(s) @Speed(mph)

0-60' 01.6 44.3

0-330' 04.4 83.5

0-660' 06.7 108.2

0-1320' 10.4 132.9

I have included pictures of the Vbox display for those interested. The best 60-130mph run I was able to obtain was 6.73 seconds on a 2.3% decline. The tip gearing is far from ideal for 60-130mph runs, so I am very happy with this time as well.

your going to need that radar detector!

Maybe two!!

Your work and mods seemed to have been thoroughly thought through (talk about tongue twisted!)... Great going, and indeed, not only do you have a hell of a collection of cars, but well done uniquely customized as well!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks guys for the comments. After owning the car for a while now, I have to say its definitely one of my favorites. 997TT tips make great daily drivers and with the extra power this car just hauls. Mash the throttle at legal speeds and hang on to the streering wheel. The turbos spool extremely quick, which is what you need when they are mated to an automatic transmission. After experiencing this cars acceleration, 25k seems like a bargain for the upgrades. Dollar for dollar, this is probably the best all around car in my stable. Car looks great, has lots of options, tons of interior room, accelerates like crazy, easy to drive in traffic, and is a great driver in the rain. Best of all, nothing can really touch this car from a stop until triple digit speeds. Do this upgrade on a 997TT tip cab and you have it all. My only complaints are factory related. Why Porsche wont offer an option to make the headlights automatic or an option for the entry and drive system in the 911 is beyond me. My Cayenne Turbo S has those features.

my 997TT: 30mph - 70mph = 2 seconds flat

my TTG on pump: 30mph - 70mph = 2.3 seconds

Thats why I love 911's. Cheap(ish) to mod, with great results...and so EASY to drive and own. Your one sounds perfect Aaron.

Ps. What will the sledgehammer deliver then!

Good question. It will deliver the thrill of driving a manual along with earth shattering roll on acceleration similar to my TTG with less attention and more comfort. It also puts down the power from a stop much better than a TTG.

That sounds like my ideal car. If it isn't too impolite Aaron, would you mind sharing with us the cost of the sledgehammer package? Do you expect it to be as bulletproof as say a Ruf conversion?

50k is the cost for the upgrade. It makes 860 rwhp, and just over 700 rwtq.

Wow....thats is FAST. If im not mistaken, that makes it faster than the tt G's????

It is faster off the line..... but from a 60mph roll, the GTT even on pump gas kills it.

From 60 -100mph a TTG on pump will pull half a car length on the 997TT tip. By 130mph, it will have put about 1.75 car lengths on the 997TT.

From a stop the 997TT will HUMILIATE the TTG. Comparing my best 0-100mph in the TTG on pump (6.4 seconds) to my best 0-100mph in the 997TT tip (0-100mph in 5.9 seconds) by the time the 997TT hits 100mph, it is 7 car lengths (97.29ft) ahead of the TTG on pump.

I maintain my opinion that inside 100mph this 997TT tip is the ultimate car to own.
