Seems Hendo sidestepped the humiliation after all :icon_mrgreen:

I'm glad the Jones-Machida rematch will happen so soon now, really looking forward to that fight.

Honestly I didn't/don't want to see Jones fight either of them. Both are a waste of time for fans as they would have resulted in Hendo/Sonnen being absolutely demolished easily.

Jones talking about how he wants to "retire early and move beyond MMA" however is asinine on his part. Yeah Jon, because the world is really looking forward to seeing what you do "next"... :eusa_wall:

Just heard the press conference, Dana is maaaad! Gotta give it to Chael, he does mean it when he says "I'll fight any man God ever made".

Jones should really try to remember how he got his title shot...

On the first part and on the second I must ask, what else is there beyond MMA? lol

Machida declined, Jones to face Belfort instead! What a mess lol.

Serious? WTF!? lol what a circus :lol2:

Apparently Belfort is Lorenzo's go to guy and they didnt even ask Jon Jones if he wanted to fight him, just sent him the contract with the understanding of sign it or else. Yesterday was hearing rumours that if Jones rejected the Machida fight on the 22nd (He didnt, Machida is the one who declined) then the UFC would consider stripping him of his title

Vitor hasn't been relevant in a decade, maybe longer. If this were Japan it would be like Jones fighting Sakuraba. Lame.

Maybe he should fight Kevin Randleman or Mark Coleman. Hell, let's have GSP fight Trigg this year too.

Henderson got injured, then Jones rejected the Sonnen fight. Both Machida and Rua have now turned down the fight for September 22 (probably due to lack of training time), and Belfort has stepped up. Dana White also rejected Anderson Silva's request to save the card by fighting in a non-title LHW bout.

Good article written on the whole thing, with most of the blame for the debacle being placed on Dana White's shoulders. He was the one who cancelled the event, and he was the one who has been putting together way too many weak cards. The article argues we can't blame Jones or Jackson for wanting to win after training for months for a right handed slugger and then being offered up a left handed wrestler. http://www.mmamania.com/2012/8/24/3264952/...-mad-at-and-why

His wife is hot though. That has to count for something :icon_mrgreen:

I would have really liked to see Jones fight Henderson. If nothing else for pure curiosity's sake.

As for him refusing to fight Chael on 8 days notice . . .

(a.) I understand that it's ideal for a fighter to have a big heads-up and a training camp in which he prepares and strategizes at length for his upcoming (known) opponent. HOWEVER, this is also the FIGHT game. The I'm-The-Baddest-Man-On-The-Planet game. It's not tennis. The champ should always have the attitude of "I'll fight whoever the F they put in front of me, any time, any day. That's my F'ing job. Send 'em in, I'll knock 'em down. Because I'm the best." He was clearly in shape, all trained up, on target to do the weight cut, etc., as he was preparing to fight on that same day anyway.

(b.) Sonnen would have no more advantage then Jones has. Sonnen did not know that he'd be tapped to fight Jones on short notice any more than Jones knew that he'd be facing Sonnen on short notice. And, AND, Sonnen is really a 185-pounder! (And a one-dimensional one at that, but that's neither here nor there.) Huge advantage Jones.

I simply cannot believe a "champ" would act this way. It's as disgraceful as it gets. And I never had a bone to pick with the guy, even when everyone else was calling him a cocky little bastard! I never disliked him at all. Just liked seeing him fight.

People never fail to disappoint, do they?

Pretty much sums it up yeah. It would be nice if Jones did accept the Sonnen fight and IMO he should have, however I understand why everyone who declined fights in this mess did it. Dana fucked up by making such a weak card where everything is dependent on the main fight.

As for Belfort, he better come out swinging for the fences 'cause I think his only shot is going for broke right off the bat.

Even Anderson Silva called up Dana White after he found out the event was cancelled and offered to fight a LHW to try and save the card. Imagine that, the #1 P4P fighter in the world, with only 8 days notice, no training camp, no notice etc. was willing to step up to save all the undercard fighters etc. Anderson Silva is deserving of being able to choose his fights, I dont think Jon Jones is at that level yet. He should fight whoever the UFC tells him to.

I would have dropped everything to watch Silva/Jones

Jon "No Bones" Jones wasnt willing to fight Sonnen... not a chance he would have considered accepting Silva lol

I think this quote by Rainer Lee puts it into perspective quite well:

White is doing a hell of a thing, deflecting blame onto Jones and his camp like this, obscuring the fact that this is an unprecedented move for the UFC because UFC cards right now are shallow to an unprecedented degree.

As for the undercard fighters, there are two people they should be looking to before they look to Jones for responsibility: 1. themselves and the extent to which they are a draw in the sport, and 2. Dana White, who has shown very little faith in their ability to hold the show together. Jones doesn't owe money to the undercard fighters. The UFC does. "

If I had spent months training and studying a particular fighter, i wouldnt be too keen on switching it up on 8 days notice either. Sonnen has nothing to lose and only to gain, Jones on the other hand has a lot to lose.

Again I point to Anderson Silva who has even more to lose than Jon Jones and was completely unprepared and hasnt trained at all since the Sonnen fight (Silva had previously told the UFC he wont fight again until 2013), but he offered to take on a fight with 8 days notice to save the card. Silva is probably the highest paid UFC star, can pick and choose when/where/who to fight but he was willing to "Man Up" to save the card for the company, the fighters, casino employees, pay per view employees, cable companies etc.

In my opinion Jones is justified in not accepting, but it is not what a Warrior would do. Also, Jones complained that Machida wouldnt be a draw, and that he is all about business now. Jones vs Sonnen would have been a WAY bigger draw than Henderson, Shogun, Belfort or Machida.

Sonnen told Dana that he would fly to Vegas and fight Jones that same night in any Casino at all if thats what Dana asked him to do.

Another huge thing is that Chael Sonnen offered Jon Jones his entire Purse to take the fight! Chael claimed to make more than Jon Jones does as well but offered to fight for free
