As much as I like Porsche products, all their latest cars, with the exception of the CGt lack soul. They all lack visual excitement and are so clinical that they are actually boring.

:iamwithstupid: :iamwithstupid: :iamwithstupid:

McLaren has fallen into this trap as well with the MP4-12C...Sure it's got all the tech wizardry and it's undoubtedly fast, but listen to the noise and look at the car...it appeals to the mind, not the heart. The P1 is a proper flagship, but going back to the MP4, well look at McLaren's 50th anni car. They gave it a moderately different bumper and threw in some extra badging...Lamborghini broke out 3 insane cars put on a show that nearly shut Italy down for it's 50th.

I think that leaders of Lambo know what they're doing and they are on the right track. Over the last 5 years they really upped their ante and the only "miss-step" in my opinion was the styling of the 2013 Gallardo. But the mechanical evolution of the Gallardo and all of the things they've done with the Aventador have put the brand in a great position.

The Aventador is keeping pace with past trends, and hopefully they will bring an SV option into the range, like they did with the Diablo. In any case the Aventador is in it's own market segment, they have some leeway to evolve it at their own pace.

The Gallardo segment is where things get tricky, but I am confident that Lamborghini will deliver a market leader. The Gallardo has faced the 360, the F430, and the 458 as well as the MP4 and it's still kicking. And as far as horsepower gaps go, the original Murcielago had 570 hp and the Gallardo came out with 520...HP is not the "telltale" indicator anymore, neither is weight for that matter :o Think about it, with the Veyron, Aventador, and GTR...all of which are "heavy" cars yet they are still capable of the speeds and performance they achieve, engineering has found a work around to deal with weight. Obviously these cars are all AWD, and the RWD, lighter weight cars like the 458 and MP4 have their advantages and are still wicked fast. But when it comes to driving sensation, each car's personality is what shines through the most. In the supercar personality test, these are my take aways from the cars discussed here that I've personally experienced:

Aventador - An absolute monster, this car drives fast and hits you even faster. Pure drama from start to finish, it has all of the high-tech wizardry of modern cars, physics-defying speed, yet still has that "raw" old school look, feel, sound, and theater. This car is essentially a mobile rock concert & rave blowout. After you drive it, you REMEMBER it.

Gallardo Spyder/LP560 - More livable and manageable, this car can drive like a nice guy but still has a mischievous streak. The look is dramatic and the sound is soul-lifting. It's more "practical fun" than it's V-12 big brother. It will work with you to have more fun, where as the Aventador's soul purpose is to make you soil yourself. It's like a Mac computer, powerful and functional, but also very user friendly.

McLaren MP-12C - The "thinking man's supercar." This car appeals to the intellect, not the heart. When you drive it, your brain knows you're going fast, but it evokes no emotion. It's biggest appeal is "looking at this data sheet, I am the fastest" as it appeals to the engineer who designed it over the test driver who drives it. The sound is pretty nice, but the looks are "plain" by supercar standards. It's the super model that just lays there during sex: You brain knows she's hot, but under the sheets your heart longs for a porn star.

Ferrari 458 Italia - Nimble and precise, the Italia delivers great flair and lots of sound to let you know you're misbehaving. Looks wise it's pretty dramatic and the sound of the V8 is divine. The DCT is very quick, but sometimes it's too clever for it's own good. The 458 is certainly more at home on the track than the street, so it appeals to potential Porsche GT3 folks that want a little more drama and flair in their track day car. Overall a great car, and certainly a true Ferrari.

Porsche 997 GT3 - The track-junkie's dream car. No doubt, it's a great track machine. The problem with this car is that until you drive it, you won't be able to fully "get it." Looking at the Italian cars, you can just look and see "oh I get why it's a supercar and someone would kill to drive this." The Porsche is much more subtle. If you're a track person, this is the car for you, anyone else, and you're just tossing money away. If this car was a super hero it's be Superman. In every day circumstances, it's simple, nice guy Clarke Kent, but put it in it's element and it's real nature comes to light.

Personally I'd like to see a Gallardo replacement with a NA V10 cranking out 600+ Hp using the ISR. The ISR is just more engaging and fun, but a DCT wouldn't be the end of the world. As long as it looks exciting and offers some dramatic driving, it will sell well. Going fast is something Lamborghini can do in their sleep (The LP7000 does 217 mph with top speed as it's LOWEST priority) so the replacement will be plenty quick. I'm looking forward to the insanity the unveil next.

My 2 cents.

as comparo lexus lf-a, v-10 engine, not even 4wd and carbon tub... 3400 lb... with 2wd... the new g has its work cut out for it to lose some weight...

That shouldn't be difficult. My Superleggera weighs 3292 with a full tank of gas and retains AWD. With ample use of carbon it should be easy.

So where do you think the "sweet spot" for pricing would be for the new Gallardo?

P.S. I liked your write ups!

supercar ace, nice comparo write up!

i drove the dct on rs5 which is going into the 2014 r8 and G replacement. it is at par with ferrari dct and better than pdk in terms of faster engagement from N to 1st gear. it also blips the throttle more.

on pricing, i suspect the G replacement will be around $275k. markup is likely depending on production numbers in first few years. aventador pricing upon initial release can be used as a guide.

Everything is fast, there are roughly 30+ cars under available with 500hp or more on the market, with some even being station wagons and SUVs...If I had to guess I'd say that same number of 500hp+ cars a decade ago could have been counted on one hand.

I was just talking about this with a friend of mine. Even when we were in high school (late 90's), 400hp was good for a sports car and the big V12 benz was still sub 400hp. Shit someone with a 400+hp mustang or camaro was something and the car was LOUD. Who would have thought a few years later your wife could be rolling around in a 600hp twin turbo V12 monster that you could barely hear running.

Thanks gents! :icon_thumleft: As far as pricing goes, I'd suspect that it'd be in $230k (for entry level variant) to $270K range, right in the 458 - MP4-12C range...If I had to make an educated guess, I'd go with $250K launch model pricing.

September's Frankfurt motor show will see Lamborghini cap its 50th anniversary celebrations with a new concept car. The concept previews Lamborghini's upcoming replacement, sources close to the Italian supercar maker said.

Rumor has it the car will be called the Lamborghini Cabrera. In keeping with tradition, “Cabrera” refers to Spanish-bred bulls whose roots can be traced to other famous breeds, including Miura, Gallardo, Navarra, Veragua and Vistahermosa-Parladé.

The new two-seat supercar will go on sale here later in 2014. The Lamborghini's lightweight carbon-fiber-and-aluminum space frame structure will also be used in the Audi R8 replacement, planned for introduction in 2015. The structure weighs 430 lbs, 60 lbs less than the all-aluminum structure today's R8 uses.

Despite the common engineering ties the new Lamborghini will again have exuberant styling cues--many have been previewed on the Sesto Elemento and Egoista concepts. Lamborghini sources told Autoweek the new car will have “an even more extreme visual character than the Gallardo.”

The new car carries the internal codename LP724 and is said to be almost 177 inches long -- less than an inch longer than its predecessor. Width and height remain close to the Gallardo's 75 inches and 46 inches.

There will be a new, slightly larger interior and new infotainment features, including Internet connectivity.

The newest Lamborghini's body will consist of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum panels, the goal being for the new car to weigh less than the four-wheel drive Gallardo, which tips the scales at 3,307 lbs.

Power will come from the Gallardo's naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 gas engine tuned to deliver close to 600 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The engine has been updated to comply with stringent new European Union mandated EU6 emission regulations coming next year.

The reworked V10 will be mated to a standard six-speed manual, with a new six-speed dual clutch transmission (already available on the facelifted Audi R8) replacing the Gallardo's E-gear sequential gearbox. Lamborghini is considering offering both all- and rear-wheel drive.

If this is correct, manual transmission fans are in for a treat.

I don't see a manual happening. There's more (proportionately) Audi R8 manuals ordered than Gallardo. I'm betting they'll offer the Audi with manual but not Gallardo.

Since the R8 V10 Plus is now offered with both a 7 speed S-tronic (DCT) and a six speed manual, then technically at least, it should not be a problem to offer the Gallardo replacement with either gearbox.

Kris is right, there will be no more 6-Manual Candy stick gear in Gallardo's replacement.

Also, from now, the Gallardos' orders are not available - which means 'Frankfurt Romor' is right.

Heard the minimum HP will be at least 610hp, powerful entry Lamborghini ever in history.

Body weight is similar with LP 570-4 Superleggera, made by partial CF and mainly light aluminium.

That sounds pretty good to me, minimum HP increase is acceptable if the weight is kept down.

The only curious - that I didn't get is about the information of Transmission.

At first, with 90%, the 'Cabrera' will get a DCT, but nowadays heard that the transmission will not be an DCT, also not an ISR.

DCT - which is a really good technique but the 'emotional' feeling is not good than E•Gear which has some emotion (some said that's an unperfection like the feeling 'lack').

Hope Cabrera get a little ISR which has same structure but a little slower (maybe 60mms).
