Roman Report post Posted May 14, 2015 So this is a project Ive wanted to do for a long time. It will be a duel use poker table/close up magic table. I wanted to build it myself because I could get exactly what I wanted, without spending 2 grand for what amounts to about 300 bucks in material... So, the build. The whole thing started off with three 8x4 sheets of 3/4" plywood. These are heavy as fcuk and really hard to work with. These got cut into three equal ovals with a jigsaw- to do this, I made a jig... Next I cut each oval into two more oval to make the playing surface and a rail frame
Roman Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Then I covered the playing surface in 1/4" foam and upholstered it with casino "speedcloth" Then on to the rail... The rail is made up of three 3/4" rings, each a different width to give an overall frame height of 2 1/4" Here it is getting ready for the 1" high density foam. I spraypainted the visible surfaces a blue to match the playing surface and lights that come later.
Roman Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Next I used a bright red "Leatherette" to upholster the rail... First the outside Then the inside (this is very hard)
Roman Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Next step, under rail lighting... This gets attached with zip ties and staples... and runs through a hole in one of the rail pieces.
Roman Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Finally put it all together- Was a little tight getting the playing surface into the rail after the speedcloth was added, but I jumped on it a few time and it popped right in.... And the lights... Next step will be the legs which Im actually going to buy pre made... I wanted to wait until the table top was done to see if what I built justified buying some nice legs... Or was just going to get thrown in the trash, because Ive really never made anything like this before... I think it deserves to spend some money on them... I think Im going with these. AudiBull Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Looks good! My buddy makes custom poker tables as a side gig and yours is very comparable to how he does it. He uses 3/4 MDF instead of plywood. The only thing you forgot are the cup holders.
Chipster Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Very nice! And much cooler to have knowing you made it yourself!

The only thing you forgot are the cup holders. I didn't want cup holders... Never been to a casino that had them.... They always seem out of place wherever you put them... And I hate working with mdf. The dust kills me... Gives me asthma attacks.

Roman Report post Posted May 15, 2015 looks great! how long did it take to make? Hard to say. I bought the materials three weeks ago... But then I almost immediately effed up my ankle and didnt work on it at all for over a week. And I only worked on it a few hours at a time a couple of days a week... Maybe ten hours or so??? If anybody wants any tips or tricks, I think Ive learned a few. I
