George Soros is to the Right what the Koch Brothers are to the Left, i.e. an evil force that must be resisted.

Any other 'axioms' you care to enlighten me with?

Just curious, what are your thoughts on Rolla (Missouri S&T) if you've even heard of it? My younger brother just got his degree there in Nuclear Engineering.

I honestly don't know enough about it to really say anything. A quick search makes it took like a totally credible undergrad program, but what does he want to do with the degree? I somehow ended up with two friends on opposite sides of the country who are nuke engineers (masters degree level), one works for the Navy on a sub the other in plant design. To me they are both glaring cases of people not being paid relative to the level of education required (neither cracks 6 figures) in their early-mid 30's. Unfortunately nuclear power isn't adored in the US and it's only getting worse.

Back to the question about what he wants to do. Jobs in this field are pretty limited location wise until you get into the high level consultant stuff. Truthfully he doesn't need to stay in the nuke industry, he won't have a lot of trouble finding a job in a much better paying field with a lot more options. If he really wants to stay in the nuke industry, I would get on a Ph.D. plan and dive into it head first. Madison (WI) has an insanely good paid Ph.D. program.

I don't want to shit up this thread anymore (if anyone even cares) but feel free to PM me. I can put your brother in touch with some guys in the field who can give him some better first hand feedback.

On engineering, engineering has a terrible pay in comparison to the amount of work required. The only reason to get an engineering degree is either:

1) You really are passionate about the subject

2) Plan to use it as a stepping stone into law, medical, business, etc...school

And that is unfortunate. I guess I saw $60-80k as good pay at one point. Funny how things change as you mature.

For me= the M.E. degree was merely a piece of paper that proved I could do the things that I said I could do. The stuff I learned is valuable, but most of it was just filler. My real charm is more on the conceptual side of things. A good way to put it is that I always had a gut feeling, now I can prove it. I like to create things. It's a good fit. Honestly- I would have done just as well in art school= but try marketing that.

Also- as we discussed in PM.. This is WNY. It's on an upswing after many years of depression but there was not much to pick from when I was in my 20's and this was the drive to return to school. Hints back at the "doing what I was supposed to". Unfortunately, my mother, as amazing as she is, did not do all that much for me as far as "setting life goals" goes. I was trying to follow her path, work for a utility and make a good buck. It didn't pan out and in hindsight- to pull a lyric from a song; and then one day I find, ten years had got behind me, no one told me when to run, I missed the starting gun

Honestly- the blatant abuse I have received here in the last week has opened my eyes. It's activated something as I now have a much different view than I did last week. I still feel healthcare should be better.. and everything I felt before.. but a different view, more in line with some folks here.

I was being sarcastic about the blatant abuse ;-)

$60 - 80K in Buffalo NY is good pay, and twenty years ago it would be considered excellent pay.

I left Buffalo NY, 21 years ago. If you want better pay and more opportunities take my advice and leave Western, NY.

My point was just that both sides on the political spectrum have their boogeymen.

On the politics, the GOP and Trump had better wake up as they are playing into the Democrats' hands IMO. The Democrats' goal is to block Trump as much as possible, make it so that he can't get anything done, expend his political capital while the people get fed up with the perception that he isn't doing anything and then proceed in 2018 to begin voting in more Democrats instead of Republicans. The thing is right now, the GOP is divided, but the Democrats seem much more united. The GOP needs to unite the way it did in the Obama years.

When Trump won, it was predicted that the Democrats could get hammered in 2018, but that really depends. Democrats in states Trump won are vulnerable, yes, but so is the GOP. Of course that is still a lifetime away but shows how things can change on a dime. IMO, politics has become sort of like the financial markets, i.e. where things can seem stable and fine then out of nowhere a big wave comes and a party that though it had a solid grip on things finds itself tossed out to sea, having to find a way to swim back in.

I blame Trump partially for the healthcare failure, because he didn't show any real leadership on the issue and seek to unite the multiple factions of the GOP. The bill that failed wasn't the final bill, it would then have had to go to the Senate, where it would get tweaked, then back to the House to be voted on again, then back to the Senate again. I think this stems from Trump's unfortunate lack of interest in policy knowledge and specifics. But it's also the fault of the GOP and the sides not willing to give an inch.

I absolutely get that. Unfortunately= it's home. Its on an upswing, but still reeks of everyone fighting over the same good paying ($50k/yr) job.

Respect.

Thanks for that. It is most certainly mutual/reciprocated.

Political disagreements aside, I absolutely respect and appreciate everyone who has shared with me. I'll be trying to absorb more as long as people don't mind me clanking around in here a bit ;-)

I'll throw a friendly jab--- How about this internet browser history stuff? I mean, talk about making money at the expense of your own people. I absolutely love that people are trying to buy Republican's history. So many wise ass comments to make about this.. I'll hold my tongue about others...

I sure am scared they're going to start sending midget porn ads to my home... gonna be super weird when they're addressed to my wife...

Seattle is challenging Trump's stopping money to sanctuary cities issue. And the environmentalists are challenging his undoing Obama's Clean Power Plan. The cynic in me says the courts will find a way to strike both of those down too. The environmentalists will argue that stopping the CPP goes against the EPA's Endangerment Finding.

I find it really irksome that a President could create a new, essentially, set of laws via executive order, then their successor can undo those rules via executive order, yet then could end up forced to go with their predecessor's executive order by the courts. How can a court say an executive order of a prior president must be kept in place?

McMaster: "The Washington Post story is false. I was in the room, it did not happen."

Or is everyone still on the Ice Cream scandal?

Even if it's true (which seems unlikely)... like all the existing things involving russia that haven't been solidified. I'd still take it over Hillary every damn day of the week.

And really, you guys think firing the head of the FBI somehow impacts the outcome of an investigation? The knowledge isn't contained in his head like a recipe for baked beans. Or are you implying the entire agency has been politically corrupted and chooses who they investigate and to what depths? While being held accountable to congress?

In my mind, firing the guy solidifies that nothing is there, otherwise if something comes out, it looks obviously evasive. This is exactly the one thing don't do if you have skeletons. Well that or have him killed. . .

McMaster: "The Washington Post story is false. I was in the room, it did not happen."

That's why they immediately notified the Cia and nsa about trump telling the Russians about classified info. Now they're saying trump staff was trying to destroy transcript of the meeting!

McMaster should fcuking resign.

Once again, nothing to see here, keep moving.

Meanwhile @ trump's hotel in dc...
