  1. My first experience with a shipper was bad. I used DAS from NY to Oregon in 2006 when I bought my car. The car came enclosed, but I was told it would go through several hubs to save money. It might sit for a couple days between legs in order to have enough cars for a full load. There was a car cover in the trunk and the sales reps said it would be in place when the car was parked between trips. The DAS tracking did not work. My car arrived several days early when their tracking web site said it was just outside Chicago. I was picking it up from the shipping yard to save money. I was completely unprepared, the yard it arrived at was a dumpy repo place. A bunch of rude tow truck drivers ran the place. They bitched me out for the fact my car would not start and they threatened to charge me a non-running fee. They charged me by the day to hold it, because I was unable to get there during their business hours the first day. The car was caked in dirt. Weeks in a gravel parking lot style dirt. Hard to tell the color of the car dirt. My side mirror was knocked loose. Story goes on. I think what was happening was a company had set up great customer service center and a strong internet presence. Pretty sure they sub contracted all of the actual shipping to tow yards and small shippers all across the country. I learned my lesson about trying to save a few bucks on shipping. I got enclosed shipping coast to coast, but I have no idea what that car actually went through. My last experience was with Plycar. The trip went well, but my car changed trucks at least once. When they would show up for pickup or drop off was always vague. I was in steady phone contact, so I got a few odd details I would not normally get. They were coming down from Canada and picking my car up before going to the Tesla factory to take a load to NY. They got stuck at the border because they tried to cross the day after the winter Olympics ended. It took them 8 hours to clear customs. They were honest about the fact they were picking up and dropping off all the time. My car almost was not ready in time for the return trip. I think they delayed the pickup by a day to give Evans time to finish. Then they begged to be able to pick it up at night instead so they could keep things moving on their end. The thing I liked about them was that they called me a lot and I always knew what was going on. I guess I am just trying to reinforce the fact that what you are going through is pretty normal. Most of the shipping stories I hear are similar to yours. The trucks are wandering around the country picking up and dropping off cars. Delays are occurring all the time. Every pick-up and drop off has a story and potential for delays. As long as your car shows up within a few days of what they told you, and it is unmolested, consider it a success.
  2. Ha! I was watching those on ebay and hoping they would come down in price a little more. I almost bought them at the last buy it now, but decided to wait. Congrats!
  3. Just wanted to let you know, not ignoring you, just don't have any info.
  4. Really? I like the Cala and thought it was very well received. I would have been happy to have seen it fill the void between the Jalpa and the Gallardo.
  5. Pretty sure that engine was all Lamborghini. Car was shown in '95. Not a lot of V10s existed at that time. They were trying to design a replacement for the Jalpa and engineered the V10 engine to replace the V8 I believe. Tons of articles on the Cala. You should be able to find lots of info with a little digging.
  6. I have seen several postings that say a Gallardo cover fits almost perfectly on a Jalpa. I think Rhyno is right about the wing getting in the way though.
  7. Sorry, just realized the buy it now is 36,000 not 35,000. I think this is right. Well sorted Euro model, great color combo, great condition, well cared for, recommended updates, etc. I think this warrants the car being in the higher Jalpa price bracket. I am watching the auction very closely, because that car is very very similar to mine. If I didn't have one just like it, I would probably bid
  8. I think selling prices have been pretty stable for quite a long time. Low to mid 30s is what I am used to seeing for the past 5 years. Less usually means a project. More usually means the seller is very optimistic and the car stays on the market a long time. 35,000 for this car seems dead on to me.
  9. No doubt "pretentious"! Made me feel inadequate. I don't have a yacht, plane, or 7 figure income..... just a Jalpa. Maybe why the site will not accept my address.
  10. Survey page seems to be broken. Tried Firefox, Explorer and Safari. Everytime I get to the page that asks for an address, it does not recognize the state. No matter how many times I put it in, or which browser I use, it does not recognize my selection and says I can not continue without it. Anyone else experiance this?
  11. That is what I heard. The Lamborghini official line was something like "Interesting tribute to a great car, but we are looking forward not back in terms of future production designs."
  12. What you like is most important. Anniversary version has seemed less popular over the last several years. Anniversary is the most practical Countach I understand. Just a matter of taste.
  13. My car would not pass emissions so I registered it as a special vehicle. Supposed to be driven for shows, rallies, or maintenance. My registration was "permanent", so I don't even need to renew. A registered car club representative has to verify the vehicle is of special interest. A local hot rod club member took a look at my car and the rest was a piece of cake. I know a few guys with "SP" plates and they drive all the time. You are a little limited, but I have never heard of anyone getting hassled for being out and about without a proper purpose. Just have an excuse ready in case you get pulled over for something else. Most states have this option and it is easy to do. No one at my DMV seemed to have a clue SP plates even existed. Once I got clued in by a local owner, I called and got the paperwork. States are different, but it could be a simple option for someone wanting a DD and not wanting to go through emission testing.
  14. There are very few parts for the old cars out there period. You would be looking for something after market, and with so few cars made, it makes little sense for someone to make "packages". There would be very few customers. As stated above, several people have converted their cars to the Jota look, but I am pretty sure it is a case by case fabrication rather than a package.
  15. Tonio has been giving headaches to Lamborghini Motors for years. I guess there was a stink when Chrysler bought Lamborghini concerning Tonio's branding. The bull with red background badge belongs to Tonio and most of his stuff has "Tonio Lamborghini" on it. He brands all kinds of things from fashion accessories to bicycles.
  16. I thought about doing this one day too. Great advice. I imagined tearing through the desert, not being stuck in city traffic. I thought you could go where ever. Thought it would be a great way to get a cheap feel for the cars.
  17. I agree with some other posters here. Do that in the Northwest and get ready for trouble. I was nervous just watching that. All ended in good fun and seemed to be enjoyed by everyone.
  18. Heard of situations like this before. Here is a news story that was floating around quite a while back. Legend is, this started when a man received a speeding ticket though someone else was driving his car. The court told him it did not matter who was driving, the ticket was issued to the owner of the license plate.... hence the following story ensued.
  19. That is is the crazy point I am making. I hear about accidents involving uninsured drivers and NOTHING ever seems to happen to them. If the person hit by them has uninsured motorist coverage, they get their car fixed, and if not, they are SOL. That seems to be how every story like this goes. I would LOVE to hear of it going down a different way, but I never do. I agree, the kid I mentioned should be in jail, but the point is, he went about his day like nothing happened and nothing ever did. Joebiz is smart and lucky he covered himself!
  20. I do not understand US insurance and uninsured motorists. I live here. Best friend got rear-ended by an uninsured motorist. His car totaled, and he was slightly injured. Could not collect a dime from the guy. Same thing happened to his dad the same year. The cars were nothing special, but they never got a dime from the uninsured. So my friend has a coworker who is about 20. No insurance. Shows up to work freaking out because he crashed into somebody, hurt them, totaled their car and he has no insurance. He is panicking. My buddy tells him "Do nothing, ignore the insurance company and everything that has to do with the accident, nothing will happen." and to my shock, he was right. The kid ignored all calls from the insurance company, and never did a thing. The insurance company dropped it after a couple months. This was a few years ago, but the coverage is what pays for the uninsured. From what I was told, it is so much trouble and cost for insurance companies to chase and get money from these deadbeats, they don't bother most of the time. Driving without insurance is a fine. An absurd number of people here take this risk of gong without. In most cases, if they get caught or get in an accident, nothing happens to them as far as I can tell.... Except it makes it harder for them to get insurance. A lot of people I know who have had run ins with the uninsured never follow up because the legal costs out weigh the potential settlements. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have not heard of anyone getting anything from an uninsured motorist. Maybe if more money is at stake things are different? Joebiz, Do you know if anything has happened to the guy that hit you? Is he just walking away and looking for a new used vehicle?

  22. Joe, 1. I did not do a compression check. The car was running very smooth, so I did not suspect anything of that nature. 2. I had the water pump rebuilt right before my failure (3 hours run time). The sound is coming from under the engine, so the water pump was not suspected. 3. No oil pressure check. 4. Sound does not come from the chain area. Seems to come from the bottom center of the engine. Seems to come from deep inside, not on the top, ends or sides. I don't feel comfortable tearing into it myself. I had hoped to get a rebuild "someday" in order to get the heads and valves redone. With the problems I mentioned, I now just want to get the whole thing done and done by somebody who knows a lot more than I do. I feel good about having Evan's do it. I decided if I was going to get this problem looked at, I would do the valves, heads, performance exhaust, smog pump taken out, wiring cleaned up, MSD with rev limiter (I have MSD, but no limiter), expanding of oil channels, and any other upgrades Evan's, Raymond, and any other owner recommends during a rebuild. I want reliability out of my car. I have little interest in power gains. I hope to someday have a reliable, clean car to cruise and go to shows with. I thought I would really enjoy working on my car, but it actually frustrates the hell out of me. Fun when it goes well, I want to take a sledge to it when it goes badly.
  23. I grew up in the 70s. I never wore a seat belt until I was 16 and my family started wearing them mainly because they passed a law requiring it. Mom and Dad used to throw us in the back of the station wagon with a pile of toys. We lived on the outskirts of town and drove everywhere. I am still alive. The whole family shudders to think of it now, but back then, seat belts were optional. It reminds me of kids today wearing helmets to ride a trike. As kids we rode Big-wheels, BMX, and skateboards and didn't even own a helmet. Don't feel like you are being a bad parent! A Lamborghini front seat is probably safer for a kid than most cars on the road. The mind set that you have to buy the biggest SUV on the market and put your kid dead center to be a responsible parent is stupid. I would tell the professors of child safety the Lamborghini has an outstanding safety rating and is designed with child safety in mind. What soccer mom is going to know if you are making it up. As stated previously, putting a kid in the front is safer than putting him in the back of your Lamborghini. Sleep easy! Wish my dad had a Lamborghini when I was little. The Volvo wagon was fun, but not very cool.
  24. Seen it for sale several times. An ex-Nic Cage car? Was a chauffeur car. Car with a bar seems like the perfect set up to me! But seriously, the black on black is gorgeous. Add mentions issues with the car. I would love to take it drinking... I mean driving.
