  1. My sister in law turned on me to this one. If you are into cooking shows, The Final Cut on Netflix is worth a watch. Chopped on steroids. Very high production value.
  2. My son loves Queen, it is appropriate for a 10 year old?
  3. Drove into LA yesterday on the 101. Moonscape either side of the 101 from Liberty Canyon to Mulholland. Even with the windows closed and AC on recirc, you could smell a burnt smell. It's amazing how many structures the firefighters actually saved considering the proximity of the fires.
  4. I like the business model, however all the really limited edition cars look like shit. The only one that didn't was the Sesto Elemento. The nose reminds of a horse...
  5. It's the new normal. We love where we live, it's a pretty special place. Our kids aren't in front of screens, they are playing outside, in the pool or riding their bikes around the ranch. We are over-insured and it's really not that expensive. It won't be fun to rebuild, but we know it may be in the cards. Our current property has a few trees damaged from the 2001 Moorpark fire, a neighbour down the street lost his home and hasn't rebuilt. And it just started raining......
  6. About 14 hours but you wouldn't be running it constantly. Just buying time to an engine on site. We have a 2 stroke gas-powered pump and a couple hundred feet of hose.
  7. We don't need at our current home as we have a 30,000 gallon pool right next to the house. Old house we did exactly that and buried a 2000 gallon tank on our property.
  8. Chubb if you opt for it, will provide fire retardant and engine support. Our property can't qualify because of our orchards. The other issue is neighbourhood water pressure. CA introduced new standards recently, they won't let you build anything new until your water company can prove it can maintain water pressure in a fire event. Test cost our water company $11k. That said we have pumps for our pool, a fire suppression system, and a concrete tile roof. A lot of fires start by embers landing on your outdoor furniture, rain gutters with dried leaves and down chimneys. Put your furniture in the garage, clean your gutters, and block your chimneys with a fire retardant panel. Also, radiant heat can ignite stuff inside the home, double glazing helps but your house was probably going to burn if it ignites this way. The Paradise fire was a totally different event. Everything was destroyed, extremely quickly. The Woolsey/Hill fires are much more typical. A lot of those houses in Malibu are on CA Fair Plan. Basically, when you can't get fire insurance, the state steps in and provides a policy that if you have a nice home, you'll be underinsured. If memory serves me right the max policy is $1.5m for structure, contents and a rental while you are rebuilding. And then our have to deal with Coastal Commission on a rebuild which will be a fcuking nightmare. A lot of these homes, if they are rebuilt will be a lot smaller. Our old home in Malibu burned in 1993 along with another 350 homes, took the former owners almost 3 years to rebuild. Our old neighbours were evacuated for 5 days in this most recent event, we would have been too. Wasn't the first time and definitely not the last.
  9. Dear friends of ours lost their home in the Thomas fire last year. Had 30 minutes to get out and literally lost everything. Military family so naturally got insurance through USAA. I'm sure you have seen the commercials were they call by your rank. fcuk them. I want to punch the TV every time I see there BS commercials. They bought the home six months before it burned down and our underinsured by $250k. Suing USAA for malpractice. And to top it off, Ventura Co has made rebuilding much more difficult and expensive (all sorts of new permit fees if you don't want to recreate the 1970's) to rebuild. I have lived through 6 fires that have threatened homes I have owned in LA, Malibu, and Ventura. It's the new normal. Review your insurance, you're probably underinsured.
  10. Encinal Canyon Rd. Classic Malibu Rd. Long straights and long sweepers.Time for lunch at Geoffrey's.
  11. Tuna Canyon in Topanga/ Malibu drop down Saddle Peak Rd. Single lane one way down the ocean. Autocross with a 500 foot drop off on the left. My commute for 7 seven years in my E90 M3 sedan. Glad to see all the homes (and old neighbours) are still standing area. Area was destroyed in the 93 fires.
  12. It is not a drive in itself, but once you go up Angeles Crest, make a right on Mt Emma Rd. A couple miles further, once you pass Cheeseboro Rd 3 glorious miles of dead straight road with great sight lines. Great sandwich shop Valley Hungarian close by too.
  13. So going to give you a few of my favourite drives in So CAL. First up Pine Mountain in Frazier Park. It's truly an epic road, fast sweepers, great sight lines, only one problem corner that can catch you out. Tightens up quickly. Terry.....pancaked his car. As you head into Ojai, 12 miles of straight deserted road. Throttle down. Post yours.
  14. Slammed it looks idiotic. I don't like the rear or the mirrors. 288 GTO looks so much better.
  15. I got rid of a wallet completely a couple of years ago, I just have a couple cards and license in my phone cover.
  16. This may be a stupid question, why do all this custom development? There are 1,000's of forums, I'm sure there are some bulletproof up to date off the shelf solutions. This seems to a slow, expensive and potentially unreliable solution.
  17. It's funny watching all you argue over the SVJ was a good idea or not. It's not my cup of tea, but 86 pages in on this thread I'm sure Lamborghini will sell every one. They only moved 186 Murci SVs. Times have changed.
  18. Don't count on Audi service either. They're awful too.

Oil and water temp look great if the outside temp gauge is accurate.

Very cool. Whitney Houston used to cruise around Malibu in a burgundy one. Congrats.
  21. Rinse and repeat...I am not a huge fan of the Aventador, but this one is pretty special.
  22. Tesla will be a wholly owned subsidiary in a few years. Cash burn, production and quality problems, and many more direct competitors. Model 3 margins are razor thin even when they are loaded. Europeans and GM don't need another luxury brand. Ford is getting out of cars. My money is on the Chinese once the stock implodes. The valuation is unsustainable. Aramco IPO is going nowhere for now so I doubt the Saudi's are coming to the rescue.
  23. Santa Paula Airport is less than 20 miles from Ojai. Might be an option for a fixed-wing charter.
