while i dont agree with the, 'i look at it at work/school' arguement, i do agree that it takes away from the board. and it does make it look like an import forum.

I have the same situation in my office when people look at my screen and raise an eyebrow thinking I must be browsing porno sites. (Which I do at home.. )

Whats the point of nudity in avatars ? I have no freaking clue, maybe some of you who sport them can enlighten me ?

I will take romandads request and turn it into a demand, NO MORE NWS OR semi-NWS AVATARS!!!

I will give members a week to replace their own avatars and then I will start removing them myself.

Please be considerate to those who have a problem with this stuff at work or at home.

It is not a NWS material but all of us would be better off without individual interpretations to what is NWS and what is not.

I agree with Erik on this one. As much as I love the pictures some of you guys have, I think it would be best for the site if they are contained to individual threads (like the Vault), then if they are visible each and every time you post in the avatars. There have been some great ones of course (Ryans old one comes to mind! ), but its probably time we start thinking about what LP is really about. :partyman:

 

I work on a government base, and although I am allowed to search the internet and can do pretty much what i want on the net within reason (everything I do is monitored of course, so you dont want to abuse priveledges or you might find security behind you! ), I dont know how many times Ive been surfing LP and a female colleague has come up behind me, SEEN the wrong avatar on a black background on my PC's screen, and immediatly assumed I was on another "type" of site. Fortunately for me, its never been anyone that matters that much (ie my boss or one of the officers i work under), and it hasnt been enough of an issue to worry about or anything, but it has still happened more than once in the last year and a half.

 

For that reason, I gotta stick with Erik, Joe and the rest of you guys who agreed on this matter.

No one member spurred this thread... In fact it was another forum that inspired it... I had clicked a link to another car forum, and EVERY other AVATAR had a half naked porn star (or animated gif of jiggling boobs etc...) and every Signature was "Im a tough-guy or gangster or blah blah blah" and I said to myself, "I have no interest to read anything these neanderthals are writing... Even if the initial link warranted a "click"..."

 

Then I came back over here and realized, we we're starting to head in the same direction...

 

Its sort of like when you dont notice something, until you start looking for it... And then you realize its right in front of you... I was so blown away at how LAME some of the members of the other site made themselves appear, and how the entire site was tainted because of it... And since this is really the ONLY forum I really consider myself a member of, I didnt want that crap to spread here... Even though NOBODY HERE really CROSSED the line... It was just a trend, and trends have a way of snowballing, to where everybody has to outdo everybody until its out of control....

 

Plus, I don't "get it". An avatar is a way for people to recognize, QUICKLY, who is writing.... Which is why I have never changed my avatar... IF EVERY other person has a half naked chick, you just become "half naked chick dude #50".

 

Secondly, what are you trying to say about yourself? 'You like women'? 'You like SLUTTY women'? 'you're a stud'? OK... If you say so cowboy....

 

Finally, thats the type of stuff that would be seen in a mens locker-room... But we have quite a few FEMALE members here... Who haven't been as active lately... And we don't want to do anything to make them uncomfortable...
