I'd been having lots of success with LimeWire before it was shut down.

I can't believe people even used that crap. P2P apps like that died/should have died years ago. I think the last time I used Limewire was when I was running Windows 2000 still.

Torrents, people. Torrents! You can select individual files from the torrent instead of the whole thing if you use a client that supports it, like uTorrent. But even if you can't figure that out, you have modern broadband. You can download the entire album within minutes and just delete what you don't want.

On a quick side note. Sprite's musiclink has been down for a while now :crybaby2: Hope that all is well and he's just working out some bugs. I'm lovin that site.

Sprite said he killed the project

anyone remember Kazaa? You'd download 20 porn movies and it would be the same 3 movies just titled differently! After some time one would look at file size and could tell exactly what porno it was :la:

Lololol...."Hmm...657.2 MB, that's 'My Sisters Hot Friend', NOT 'Back Door Neighbors'!! "

Damn, Limewire was great for getting quite hard to find songs.

Since Limewire is gone I have gotten a problem, will look into some solutions posted earlier but if anyone has nay other ideas please share:

Problem:

I want to upload a vid with some background music to Youtube. I check on Youtubes Audioswap what is allowed. Previously I then used Limewire to get that song and mix it in the vid. Leagal and perfect. Now I'm stuck. (I don't want to do the Audiswap since I usually mix volumes and stuff) Sure I could buy the song somewhere, but seems stupid since its use is "free" for the purpose I'm using it for....

I have to agree here. I can be a bit of an audio snob but I once downloaded a very hard to find song off the 'tube and the sound quality was very disappointing.

Now, not all uploads are created equal....but I can't imagine the majority being a lot better.

Random thought: if the music industry really wants to control downloads, they should find a way to "ruin" sound quality. Maybe a virus that attacks these boards and alters all the compression settings. :icon_mrgreen:

I remember some of the mainstream downloads had the audio all messed up when downloaded from Kazaa. There was a screeching sound that ran through it.

It's quicker and easier to buy legit these days and pay, and tracks are very very cheap to buy, for the harder to find stuff still can sometimes find a high rate mp3 (lower rates sould like shit, but still better than nothing) or buy on vinyl but vinyl sounds like crap too, I've got a handful of albums and singles on cd and vinyl, cd wins no contest.

Side note: a large percentage if not most of all vinyls are run from digital masters.

Got rid of Limewire and BearShare together a long time ago. Torrents are where it's at for me. Easynews is another great source, although not free.

Why not just rip songs right off of YouTube?

I will from now on. I didnt know it was as easy as the link GB posted. I will from now on.

Google can also be used to find mp3's (or other files) for download using the right search string, but websites have been made that do all the hard work for you.

First one i found,

Just got frostwire and it is just as good as limewire for my mac. I recommend it to anyone not taking the youtube route.
