I recently picked my Gallardo up and drove it home. This was a trip of a lifetime across a few states. You cannot pay enough for this!!

I can get used to this view: cockpit.jpg

Twice; I drove one of my friends Ferrari 308 cross country (16 years ago) and as a comparison this was completely different in a better way. I'll try to make a long story short, and make it fun to share, so here it goes:

Pickup:lambo1.jpg

I stopped every hour roughly, and every stop had its own experience. Most people asked how much the car cost, gas mileage, horsepower, etc. but some were outright really funny and some were just tragic:

1. There was some snow on the road in one state and at that rest stop one guy asked what type of snow tires I was running? I didn't know what to say. I started laughing so hard after he left.

2. Another stop, and one person was standing next to me repeating 200,000...200,000...200,000 as I was filling up. Quite of a sudden a man around 40 comes up and says: "dad, let's go, besides it is more like 250." then he turns to me and lashes out about me driving the car in snow, apologizing for my driving the car in snow to his dad.... I was dumbfounded. The older gentleman was probably slightly autistic, but I still didn't get it. I used to snow/ice race overseas, and feel very comfortable driving the G in snow. Weird, really weird. I think it handles really well.

3. Another rest stop - a young couple walks up and asks permission to shoot photos. I smirked to myself and said of course you can, as I am walking away to pay the gas bill at the cashier. As I turn to leave for the cashier, another gas pumping customer yells across the aisle:"make her show her &@@&$" I was dumbfounded again.

4. A couple in their 60's are arguing in Ohio. They are standing ten feet away from me "Maserati, Ferrari, Maserati, Ferrari, back and forth. " I am like, I am standing right here, can hear you, and can gladly answer the question if you want...

She proceeds to walk around the rear on my car, reads the emblem, and yells at him: "See I told you so, it is a Ferrari!" I started laughing again...

5. In Detroit, almost home. I get pulled over the first time *(had temporary tag to drive home, no plate) Detroit finest. I show my DL and CCW and report that I don't carry currently. I proceed to show my temporary tag (it was dark, and barely visible form the outside) and they relax. So we spent the next 30 minutes discussing the four wheel drive system, the Audi components, speed envelope, etc.. I know quite a few LEOs downtown, and these were really nice too. It is funny when they approach the car with a hand on the gun, really cautious, to see them relax after the paperwork is cleared (no points on my license & no record...). Car freaks everywhere. They took a few photos, and so did I of them posing (didn't want to burn their ID badges so just showing ours cars at Mack and I-75). They escorted until city limit and left. Funny... I was cracking up again.

Finally home, the car needs a wash badly from the roads and weather. Need to get rid of the other car in the garage... not so funny. Anyone know somebody in the market for a A&A supercharged C5? http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/2090782966.html

This has been a completely different experience within a very short time span....

BTW My oil temperature never reach above 60-70C. Pressure was fine, water nominal, but oil temp so low. 25F ambient when I shot the photo, and I had been driving very calmly for about an hour...

Love the ESP on ice/snow. The stock tires are a little bit slick, but very well in range for being comfortable. No heating/cooling issues except for above and I got 17.2 mpg. Perfection on four wheels. Very happy owner...so far it has been a blast, more stories will definitely come...

Congrats and welcome to the Bullpen from another Detroit member. There are a few of us on here, yet the majority fail to get together in one location at a time.

Hopefully this spring/summer/fall, a Detroit gathering is in order.

Awesome little write-up and enjoy the ownership experience!

You will be pulled over often usually to 'tell' you about a front plate, but I've only gotten a ticket once for no front plate. Most of the cops are car guys and are extremely nice and will talk cars all day. Once in a while you meet a cop with a chip on his shoulders about exotics, but it's rare. I've been pulled over more often in a year than I have my entire life, all in a Lambo. They never ever pull me over in the Phantom or other cars I have, but the SV and prior LP640 it's about every other month or so.

As for the public, it starts out a lot of fun and then after a while you just want to get from point A to B. I always take the time if someone wants to chat. It's the price I pay for owning an exotic, and I feel very fortunate so I gladly take the time, but still, if I had a choice, I'd prefer to go unnoticed and just get to my destination.

Congrats. If you are from Detroit, I am sure we will run into eachother next season. Be safe.

Sounds good. Any organized meets? I rent 300ft of Woodward frontage for the cruise each year, but maybe not wait that long...

congrats on the purchase! One of the better deals out there. I had my eye on this car as well and talked to the owner a few times. Sick car for the money!!!

I agree. It really was...

Gas stations are the best. Never filled up without getting a comment from someone lol!

Best comment I ever got at a gas station, "I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of saying anything to you because you're driving that car." i replied, "You just did!"

Michigan doesn't require the use of a front plate on our vehicles. That and we don't have smog checks. Two small benefits.

Since it is new for me, I have been driving every day lately. Love people's reaction in traffic, in snow....

Spring is only three months out....

Got to love explaining the CCW. So far I've only been pulled over once since I got mine and wasn't carrying at the time. The cop was actually a little bit of a douche about it which is very rare for western PA.

Congrats on the new ride!
