TheFilipinoStig Report post Posted March 19, 2012 Not much the world can do over someone like Kony, minus sending in the military, and then you're nation-building just like in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although Army Special Forces teams (Green Berets) specialize as being force multipliers who go into a country, befriend the people, then train them how to fight and overthrow the repressive government (and raise an army in doing so), then lead them in doing so. Maybe that could be tried. Exactly. But the American taxpayers won't stand for it. "Kony 2012" on Facebook statuses is one thing, but starting another all-out operation on the ground won't happen. Look at Rwanda: Clinton Admin. wouldn't simply fly jamming planes to stop the genocide there, let alone employ ground troops. Why wasn't that popular? Somalia/Blackhawk down incident. For every dictator that we squash there are five more that need to be taken out. The cycle repeats itself until people wake the f*** up. And it's going to take a lot of initiative on everyone's part besides just simply whining on the internet. You can also start by electing people to positions of power in our country who know their history, their geography, and have a bit of common sense with foreign policy - an area which is NOT in the discourse of the current political campaigns. Rant over. And you're welcome

soup Report post Posted March 19, 2012 , befriend the people, then train them how to fight and overthrow the repressive government (and raise an army in doing so), then lead them in doing so. Maybe that could be tried. Even if the USA send forces/special troops over there to train the people, I don't see it being succesful...
