I have my idea as to why she was so fearful but I would like to hear it from you.

Maybe she thought you were a really nice guy and was nervous that the bomb was going to go off while you were still in the elevator with her?

My other friend did say, getting a kiss from a Saudi girl is like getting oral from a regular girl lol.

Are you meaning technique or smell?

I had a patient a couple years ago that wore a scarf on her head. When I would treat her, she treated it like it was her panties. She held onto it, and was embarrassed like I may accidentally rip her panties off.

My wife is also a doctor, and when she would treat her, she would actually remove the scarf completely for her. It made me want to rip it off so bad. I always wondered....If I accidentally ripped someones panties off, it would be sexual harassment. What about a scarf? What does she look like under that thing?

Differences in religion...

No, she was just terrified that I would pay for hers. We covered our own bills and moved on.

Why dont you try to "rip it off", I wounder how may bone docs you need after that smart stunt.

Do you feel the same about nuns when they come into your office, ( or do they know better about "accidentally ripping someones panties off) do you wounder what they look like under "that thing" Have some respect..........

Your "wife" im assuming is a female, so naturaly women are more comfortable with women, In the Muslim religion it is ok for none Muslim women to see Muslim women without the scarf on.

I have never treated a nun, but must admit there are some sexy nun outfits out there around Halloween!

With due respect, I live in America where 99.9% of people wear panties and .1% wear scarfs. Loosing one may be more or less important than the other. I think more appealing women dont have panties, and that sane people dont force themselves to wear scarfs. Thats why I find it completely amusing. She might as well protect a marble collection. I dont get it, and from my standpoint it is cult like oppression that misses the point and beauty of life. And, if I am wrong, my joke means nothing.

"That thing" is kind of like a boner blocker. I assume that is the purpose. It is to help the ego of a jealous husband at the expense of a his property (aka: his wife).

Unfortunately, I fall under the category that believes our designer made boners and naked people generally appealing and for good use. Damn my parents! Why did they circumcise me!

Keep in mind that The Cleveland Clinic also is one of the largest hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Because of this a lot of the citizens come over here when they need specialized treatments because they have not fully built things up over there yet. It's very possible that this is her first trip to the US, even her first day, and she really has never been in an elevator with a non relative man before. You just popped her cherry. She prob felt the same way you would if you hopped in an elevator in the middle east and for the first time saw a guy with wires and a bulge sticking out from under his shirt1

I don't know how to categorize your reply as anything past uneducated.

I don't care what religion a person is from, I wouldn't being making jokes about their religion. Its just low class. Many people follow Jesus but do things that are contrary to what he taught. Did you ever talk to someone who wore a scarf? What makes you think someone is forcing them to where it? What makes you think that there is some jealous husband? I would love to hear your sources for all these stereotypes you have.

When a nun wears a scarf, no one says that she is oppressed, that she must have a jealous husband, or is in a cult.

I never understand why people can just let other practice their religion respectfully.

This headscarf stuff is blown way out of proportion. Do you guys know orthodox christian women are supposed to cover their hair as well? In much of eastern Europe especially in rural areas, you will see a lot of mostly older women wearing headscarves. Times have changed, and young women don't wear it anymore but 50 years ago, a majority of women in the countryside would wear it, 100 years ago probably even women living in cities would wear it full time. In churches even today you will see a lot of women covering their hair, in both rural and urban areas. In some places they don't even let women in the church if they don't cover their hair. It's all about education and progress, it doesn't happen overnight, nor will it happen because bonedoc feels like ripping headscarves off or because of who he believes sane or not. It will happen as a consequence of better education and empowerment of women, and each generation is thankfully becoming more educated and more open than the last.

Also I've rarely encountered such awkwardness in the middle east. It depends a lot on where she came from. People in the Gulf area, or Syria/Lebanon are usually more open minded than what is nowadays the stereotype for muslims. Saudis, Yemenis, Iraqis tend to be more conservative than the rest based on my experiences. In fact I can only remember one such situation, also involving an elevator. I was politely told to wait for the next elevator and I obliged, not a big deal.

Keep in mind that some women CHOSE to wear them, nothing to do with them being oppressed.

Why it bothers people i dont understand. I live in a multiculteral society and i dont really care what people wear as to each his own.

And some chose to wear it because the fear the repercussions of not doing so either on a spiritual or secular level due to oppressive traditions and doctrine. Covering one's face isn't a natural choice made completely separate from tradition rooted in oppression or oppressive practices - I believe this is what people have issue with.

This world has many different cultures and societies and each and every culture has their beliefs and traditions. Im totally against oppression and i believe that every human being has the right to believe in what they want. If a person decides to dress a certain way then fine. People have issues with themselves if a womens head dress bothers them.

You could start by growing up in my house and laughing it off.

That is the problem. We cant joke about religious differences. We would rather just take care of it with war. I have talked to people about their views, and it was hard not to laugh. The patient I mentioned was 25. She had an arranged marriage with a man who was 10 years older. She already had 3 kids at this age, and the oldest was 10. I believe stereotypes are made by those they are against.

When a nun wears a scarf, no one says that she is oppressed, that she must have a jealous husband, or is in a cult.

I think a nun is doing the same thing, but to herself. Self-suppression.

I never understand why people can just let other practice their religion respectfully.

Life is too short to have a bad day. I think people can believe whatever they want, but should not be forced. At that point, they are merely a robot. I dont believe anyone loving would want this.

I have an appreciation for most people & cultures but what I see in some Middle East societies is very disturbing. When I hear of women being killed because THEY were the victims of sexual assault or because they want to be educated, when I see stories of women being stoned for adultery while the man is let go, and when I see aranged marriages where the groom is in his 70's while the bride is 13 I cannot help but wonder about the societies that allow this.

While I do not approve of some of the things that go on in American society, there has always been a desire to use science and technology to improve people's lives. This has impacted social values and traditions; not always in a positive way, but always in a manner to make life safer and more satisfying.

Women are VERY highly regarded where i come from. We have female pilots, police officers ,doctors ,ministers you name it.

If a man lays a finger on a women, even if she is his wife he faces serious prosecution. The first public university that opened in Abu dhabi was a womens university.

Now in every part of the world you have the sick crazy ones. Its not just in the middle east. Just because someone's face was eaten off last week in florida dosnt mean that all americans are cannibals. Get what im saying?

You here stories of dads raping their daughters, wives being killed, fathers and mothers murdered all over the news wherever u reside. This happens everywhere sadly. These problems have nothing to do with race, religion or nationality.

Keep in mind, you only hear what your media chooses to focus on.

Yeah, over there they are thinking we are eating each others faces on the side of the road, largely homosexual porn stars eating our partners from other countries with a fork and knife, and we are also taking cocaine laced with veterinary drugs that contains flesh eating properties. The President has a mafia style hit list he uses while our military is dropping bombs via drone attacks trying to kill them all while sometimes accidentally killing innocent people in the process... in their country. Those are a few news stories off the top of my head from the last few weeks happening in the USA. How would you feel about Americans if that is what you based your opinions on? That is the news. Think outside of their narrative.
