Seriously though, very cool! I'm quite excited to get a consumer pair at some point. I have a feeling I may never want to use a phone or anything afterwards. Although... one thing that was never really "clear" to me was how they plan on connecting them. WiFi? LTE? TDMA? Etc. etc... I wasn't sure if they were going to end up basically being like a mobile carrier device you can buy (Like buying an iPhone) or if it was going to be its own thing.

Agreed! I'm not really into sunglasses. That and I have to wear normal glasses anyway, so the sunglasses thing would ruin it for me.

Currently service is provided through your cell phone. From what I was told, the goal is for the glasses to connect with out any out side assistance or source. The software is updated monthly and continues to get better and better.

I'm amazed how far technology has come. I remember using my first computer in HS ( yellow tape printout with holes in it), then my first computer in my office (Commodore 64). Now my iPhone has more computing capabilities than both of those combined.

So how's this supposed to work socially when people know that every time you look at them there is a likelihood of them being video-recorded? Am I not understanding the product correctly? Or is this just a secret weapon funded by the porn industry, haha?

 

I mean, sure, right now it's sort'uva novelty and people are curious, but what happens if they're common-place? What happens when you're in a McDonalds and stare too long in the direction of the playplace and all the moms start freaking out about the suspicious character with the facial hair and G-glasses? Is our culture just going to accept that everyone's faces and features will be recorded and placed all over the web with permanency? Corporate policies would certainly swoop down on these things to protect proprietary information. Maybe even small businesses would start putting up a no-Glass sign right next to the no-smoking sign for customers' comfort. I doubt they would even be allowed on a military installation just because they would be so much more persistent and inescapable as an information collector vice a cell camera. An even more violent hypothetical...that if we're at war and the enemy grabs a POW, then uses internet imagery (G-glass info) to identify his family members, track them down, and use threats against them to extract information from him? Simply put, I can think of lots of situations that would be severely tested if a dude with a camera on his face walks in. I'm just getting the feeling that this crosses the line on a lot privacy and security concepts. Sorry to get so serious on an otherwise fun thing, but it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up a little.

I got my invite in December. Ordered it, used it for a day, and sent it back for a full refund the following day. It's dumb. Even if it was cool, the battery will only last an hour. Cool concept, needs a lot of work however.
