this is on my bucket list. if i was to do one, is gold rush the one to do?

Depends on what you want out of it. If you want the best, go Gumball. If you can't pony up that kind of cash, and need to stay on the continent, gR may be for you.

It's an experience to say the least and it's different than any other rally that you can imagine.

This is the reason I don't do any of these rallies, everyone drives like a maniac, and over such a long distance its only a matter of time till something happens.

:iamwithstupid:

I am glad that no one was seriously injured.

No car and no amount of money or fame gives anyone the right to put other people's lives in danger. The life of a loved one is priceless and everyone has someone who feels that way about them. I love a spirited drive as much as every other sports car enthusiast, but safety always comes first. I am not passing judgement on the gentleman involved in this crash; I didn't read the details and its not my place to judge. I am speaking in general terms and it applies to all motorists.

.

i don't know the driver/owner and i certainly don't know what happened, but i can tell you this, if participants in these events are NOT respectful of other people's lives, then someday... sooner than later, there won't be anymore of these events or even trackdays for that matter. Attorneys, municipalities, insurance companies and police will shut these down before they get started.

The fact that we can participate in these events is a gift to us, something to appreciate. I don't car how much money someone has or how great his cars are, if a guy/gal puts others lives at risk, they are assholes, especially if they do it repeatedly. Sorry, life is a little more precious than that. Let's be adults here.

i am a lone ranger.. but i like these events.... for about 2 -3 hours.

I have been around the gumballers in the US (west and Indy) and Monaco for several years. Max is cool and the event is fun.. In 2006, VRAlexander invited me to vegas for the gumball vegas to LA portion. I flew from chicago to LA and picked up one of my motorcycles and rode to vegas and met the gumballers coming down from Utah. . We partied at hardrock with snoop and the next morning i had my female friend ride with some guys in a bentley because there was a possibility that i might run a little over the speed limit. I left hardrock (on my motorcycle) with the first 3 cars, a ford gt, i believe, Team Polizei's Alex Roy in a bentley and an F50. In town and the outskirts (enterprise?) the guys in these cars were driving like assholes. Local cars everywhere with heavy traffic, shopping centers, fast food joints. They were flying past other cars, passing at speed on shoulders and turning lanes. A total disregard for human life. Even on a motorcycle i could barely keep up. When we got out in the desert towards death valley it was GO time. I was on a sport touring bike that maxed out at about 140 - 150, same with the helicopter. On the straight sections they would leave me but i would catch up on the curves, traffic etc. After lunch at furnace creek, i reunited with my friend and we rode thru death valley, running with some other gumball cars until we turned off for palm springs.

The group that i ran with for the first gold rush were mostly friends, we (two motorcycles and gold rush cars) left LA towards vegas and although we were running HARD, we were still respectful of other's lives. You can have FUN and not endanger other people.

all i am saying is that some bad apples, whomever they are, will probably ruin it for the rest of us..

honestly, it's a miracle that MORE people don't die during these events..

The Mp4 is a rental from B&W. He got ticketed for reckless driving. No wonder he always lets other people drive his car. Maybe he just doesn't want the attn or wreck his $1-2M rides.

Rally without proper planning and escort is a time bomb. If not accident, you are going to need a lawyer for all the tickets.

I am going on a rally in HK/China later this year. It will be escorted with cops all bought :) . We drive on toll private roads that are new and vacant. Roads here put american highway to shame. Much safer and smooth like glass.

The only rally I would consider here in the US would be the Italian Stampede.

Any group of people excited to drive together is a risk. Egos, goating and bragging rights make people do stupid things.

Heck on the Italian Stampede last year, when cruising through the canyon, some asshole stopped just around a blind- corner so they could do a Corsa launch. There we 80+ cars behind him hauling ass. I was PISSED. I thought for sure someone was going to rear-end us, and a ton of others as well. Thankfully, nothing bad happened. It's when people get selfish and arrogant problems happen.

We ran gR3 and it was decent. It was cliquey, and a total sausage fest, but to be expected. I think our year was an off-year to be honest. Or so i hope for everyone else's sake.

Gumball used to be the best until 04-05 or 06. Then it went downhill.

Especially for the price they are asking now, it's ridiculous.

I was in my Performante as I hosted one of the camera dudes and the top off helped a lot. The GTR was also a buddy of mine. As for BC, I am not condoning the reckless driving and putting us all in danger. I too try to avoid these events as everyone drives like a maniac. Fun to be there but reality sets in and it is dangerous. However the decadence in the clubs is super crazy with these guys. Not dangerous for observers like the driving........lol.

Ah, I remember you were at the DuPont event. Car was amazing. I agree, the nights out were nice too.

Havent been on these but I think the gumball price got lovered a lot on last few years. This years wasn't propably so much when counted in expenses involving Monaco GP weekend.

It surely was fun to drive amongst the gumballers in our country, but I was hoping to see more crazy driving but 70 units of cops with radars in both highways took care of that. :(
