Placid Report post Posted July 2, 2014 I think the problem with play acting and diving can be resolved in less than a season. How? Howard Webb got it right as a ref in the Brazil vs Columbia game. There were fouls but he did not give them so they played on and they knew he would not blow his whistle over silly things. That game was fantastic to watch. Then there is video footage. If you take retrospective action against violent conduct then you can do the same for diving. If you dived and your team won you cannot play for the next three games. Easy. Also it should be noted USA fans, your manager was famous for it! I like the old style of game, couple of knocks and dings and you get on, we have some of the classics World Cup matches being shown on tv here and it is miles better to watch. Two solutions that would work: 1. Stop the time when ball is not in play. 2. Play on tarmac. Agreed Throughout the cup Howard, Beasley and Gomez where the only ones that played really well IMO. Dempsey, Jones, a few others played well. Bradley was all sorts of disappointing. In other cases - the majority - it's an exaggeration to bring the ref's attention to the fact they've been fouled. As anyone with 5 minutes' experience watching a football match will know, referees are the most stupid, short-sighted and routinely wrong group of people in existence. Solution to the problem: genetically engineer clairvoyant referees. (Though on a serious note, I like Cap's idea of post-match review suspending the most blatant no-foul divers.) Yes Belguim had a lot of shots on goal but the game is not just attack, it is defence too and that is actually where the States played well. A friend said that he was willing the states to score the second so the yanks can understand the beauty of the game and then lose on penalties so they get how cruel the game really is.
