No thread on the Roanoke, VA reporter shooting?

Damn I figured someone would have been all over this as it's the lead story on every news website. Not only did the murders happen during a live broadcast but the POS former "reporter" who did it filmed himself doing it from his POV, first person shooter style, and posted it on Facebook after the incident. Creepiest thing I've ever seen. Apparently he has since ate a bullet.

I was going to post this as well but got busy. Looks like he shot himself but is alive in critical condition. RIP to the victims and condolences to the families.

Possible motive; racial complaints after being fired...

"On the air Wednesday, WDBJ’s general manager, Jeff Marks, said that after months of disruptive behavior, Flanagan was fired and ushered out of the station by police.

 

Flanagan “did not take that well,” Marks told viewers.

 

“Vesper was an unhappy man,” the general manager said. “We employed him as a reporter, and he had some talent in that respect, and some experience, although he had been out of the business for a while when we hired him here. He quickly became – gathered a reputation as someone who was difficult to work with …

 

“He was sort of looking out for people to say things that he could take offense to,” Marks recalled. “And eventually, after many incidents of his anger coming to the fore, we dismissed him. And he did not take that well. We had to call the police to escort him from the building.

 

“Since then –well, he then filed an action with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, in which he made all kinds of complaints. And there may have been one about Alison and/or Adam – I frankly don’t remember – but about members of the staff making racial comments. He was African American. And none of them could be corroborated by anyone. We think they were fabricated.

 

“But just as an insurance policy,” Marks said, “we went about and talked to all of our employees who had been able to be exposed to this. And we have a pretty diverse workplace. And we got nothing about that. And the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission dismissed the claim out of hand. And that was that."

If he died I haven't seen it. There was an initial erroneous report that he died, that was retracted, and I haven't seen anything else since then. He apparently had a history of problems at other stations where he worked prior to this one as well.

 

Edit: Just saw an update saying he has in fact died. Good riddance.

I did. Gave me chills. My heart was racing knowing what I was about to see. It was difficult to say the least.

Regarding the POV, I keep hearing about situational awareness. Sure, when you're live on TV you're not thinking as much about your surroundings, but it's a good reminder that we all need to pay attention. Check your 6. Watch out for your friends. Make sure you know where the exit is located. These simple things can save your life.

Being live on tv makes you tune out to everything, as that video clearly pointed out. You would think you would catch someone in your peripheral. Just sad.

I thought the guy was black who shot them? Deosn't the hand look white in this video? Also for being shot point blank, how is there such a delay from the female?

He's pretty light skinned... And its real life... Not a movie... People dont typically go down immediately when shot... In fact, a lot will be up and talking until the moment they expire. You lose consciousness because your b/p crashes. That takes time depending where the wound is.

 

Unless the bullet hits the spinal column, theres no reason for the victim to just drop the way they do in the movies.

There was a woman in I think Georgia defending herself and her children who shot the intruder to her home five times. He decided he had enough and ran out of the house (which was good for her as she was out of ammo at that point), but he didn't drop dead or anything and was later arrested.

I watched it... Three people with tunnel vision and a maniac with a glock.

playing Grand Theft Auto 5 in first person view for months will make the video look normal..especially when the lady didn't drop and continued screaming..if the news didn't say it was real..i'd think it was fake.
