Chipster Report post Posted September 11, 2015 So I am highly considering getting rid of the Diablo and getting into a Gen V Viper. Considering a couple options....barely used TA, or ordering 1 of 1 custom painted GTC or ACR. I would of course only do it for the right numbers like an even trade on an ACR or the TA plus a decent amount of cash. But the $ deal isn't really the reason for a sanity check. I have honestly barely drive the Diablo this year. I've had that transmission seal leak and after all the work on the Diablo, Mustang, and bike the last year and a half, I kind of got burnt out on working on vehicles. So something new and fun is enticing. And really there is very little that interests me as a replacement. HOWEVER, I do worry I would regret selling the Diablo mainly if the prices end up soaring. Though that is probably a horrible reason to keep a vehicle. Also going from a car thats held value very well and increased to a depreciating car (which however could hold value well if its one of the limited models and they stop making the Viper in the near future) is a tiny bit of a pucker factor. Am I nuts for considering this?
SYNYSTR Report post Posted September 11, 2015 And you wouldn't get tired of working on the Viper? Something tells me you would drive the Viper a little more aggressively than the D hence more likely to break/maintain. Back to square 1? szabo_martin Report post Posted September 11, 2015 You need to do what makes you happy.... only issue is, if you regret it there is no easy road back. You know your Diablo well, and if you wanted another you could end up starting all over. Vipers are pretty robust seeing its a truck engine and cheap to fix..... but a Lamborghini is a Lamborghini... and a Lambo V12 really is the daddy in the car world.... its just a beast and no other car comes close
Chipster Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Haha well the Viper would need much less attention and it would probably be only be for increases like exhaust. Not necessarily repairs to keep it running right. And the Viper would have a warranty anyways. Yeah I mean if I got rid of it, I think a Diablo would become unobtanium
RobberBaron Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Buy a gen 2 viper and keep the Diablo. Now you have a great looking bullet proof car and a Diablo. Not to mention, both are appreciating.

I had a Gen ii before though and I have a weird thing about buying the same car again. Plus it would just be another older car that would need repairs. But good thoughts. Keep them coming! emanon Report post Posted September 11, 2015 I love the new viper, been looking at a few myself lately, and from all my previous experience they don't need much maintenance at all. That being said, I think selling the Diablo is not a good idea (financially). Yeah yeah cars aren't an investment, but when you have one that is on a value trajectory like the Diablo, I would sit on that for a while until the number is too big for you to pass up. New vipers are going to depreciate, there is no way around it, ACR or otherwise. The only cars going up in value are the Gen II, and more specifically the B/W 96 and 97. But buying ANY Gen II right now it will be essentially free over the next few years, I don't see them dropping at all. Buy a nice 97-99 GTS for $40-45k, drive the hell out of it and hang onto the diablo.

VCR Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Which turns more heads, a Viper or a Diablo? Which brings a smile to your face every time you peek into the garage. a Viper or a Diablo? Case analysis completed. Seriously, no doubt that the Diablo would be more temperamental but isn't that's what classic Italian exotics are all about? More importantly, you can likely find a Viper of your choice at anytime without much trouble. Once you let go of a Diablo and regret it, how likely is it for you to find a right one again? Assman Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Chip, can you afford to keep both? I bought my second Lambo and don't need a crazy daily. I could drive anything for my 2 mile commute, but as a car guy I want something I can have worry free fun in so I'm going to buy a second car soon for that duty. I wanted a new viper but I need some back seat for a daily. I drove a gtr and i8, and I'm strongly thinking 911 tt. It's the best all around car. Chipster Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Thanks guys. I think this is exactly the kick in the nuts I needed. I should just replace the daily. Eventually I could pick up a Gen V Viper too but I couldn't (shouldn't) do both right now.
Kerplop Report post Posted September 11, 2015 The answer is simple. Let me babysit the Diablo. Then go get a Gen V Viper. Then, if you don't miss it, I can just keep babysitting it. Easiest solution ever.

Chipster Report post Posted September 11, 2015 I think they did great with the Gen V except the whole initial pricing fiasco. I've always had some love for the Vipers though. My 97 was a lot of fun. I'm sure a drive in the Diablo will help convince me to keep it!
stevenh766 Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Do what makes you happy. Just keep in mind the Viper will depreciate and the Diablo will do the opposite.
RobberBaron Report post Posted September 11, 2015 This new ACR screams "Drive me hard, really hard" Then take me home, wash and wax me. Then abuse me again. My god does that car look sick though. I wouldn't give up a Diablo for it, but man oh man. Your interpretation of her is spot on too After these have finished their depreciation, I think I may have to make room for one someday. porter Report post Posted September 11, 2015 That's a huge step down from a Lambo to a Dodge. That's like going from Pornhub to a Sears catalogue and Chip I think you know what I mean.

Fortis Report post Posted September 11, 2015 You are nuts case closed! I wouldn't do it but IMO you have to do what makes you happy right now but ONLY if you are able to live with the regret
rmtn Report post Posted September 11, 2015 My very amateurish guesses. Diablos have only just started to creep up, and I think they will eventually become very sought after and high value cars. Gen 5 Viper will only lose it's value for next 3-4years then even out for long period and then gain a lot when we are all gray haired. So you could keep lambo, then buy that viper in a couple of years, it would still be relatively new, a lot cheaper than now and not loosing much value over coming years. Chipster Report post Posted September 11, 2015 I don't think anyone was saying a viper looks better haha. But I think you're in the minority about a Viper looking terrible. Good advice in here though. I'll hang on to it!
