  1. I'd say this was an ironic discussion for me to stumble upon after being gone from LP for a little while. I've been working my tail off on a few projects and found some of this information to be very helpful, thanks guys. I don't know if it was listed, but your own common sense is also a good thing to take into a business. That can sometimes be something over looked when there are a lot of items on the table. Make sure you protect yourself and don’t get burned by anybody. Legal contracts help with this. I also find it useful to write better than the other guys. Even in the simplest of an email I think that the writing that you compose to a client, partner, etc. is very important and a vital part of any business as it is the key component to proper communication. Usually I wouldn't say a lot about what exactly I'm doing, but this is a business thread and I thought some might be interested. Recently I actually got lucky enough to find myself working in the motorsports community with a rally car team. We have some pretty big events coming up in the future and if anyone knows somebody who would be interested in getting their business's name represented at the X Games in LA please let me know through a PM. Again, normally I wouldn't put it out there, but the team has a fairly attractive deal right now. With that said you also want to make sure that you are marketing your business to the right type of clientele. Poor advertising can cost lots of money and in fact hurt your business in some occasions. Always remember to work hard and play hard at the same time. That play hard can really help keep you motivated to work hard sometimes. For instance, after flying in my search and rescue organization's Huey I want to do nothing more than to get into the hell hole inside of the helicopter and clean out all of the seepage and attend the other "dirty job" maintenance issues that we undertake on a regular basis. You've got to pay off that hard work and have some reward for it.
  2. Yea I read that earlier today, fairly impressive little gig the kid has goin on.
  3. I've got the first Motorola Droid. I love the interface and most things about it, but the actual michrophone sucks on it. I'm looking to the HTC Droids for my next one.
  4. hmmm... I would get a stable of mid-2000s Subaru rally cars for AWD classes, a pair of Mazda RX7s (rally-spec of course) for 2WD, and a Unicat command vehicle with a couple of Toyota pickups for support vehicles. If there was any $ left it would go towards supplying my fans with air horns and road flares for sporting purposes. The rally team would consist of friends, family, and of course—lambo power members. Let the party begin!
  5. I've been mountain biking on light "sprints" in the morning and then hitting the gym in the afternoon, working different areas each time. I keep my diet set to mostly chicken, turkey, fish (all kinds), and occasionally pork. I really try to limit the red meats, plus I honestly don't like them that much. I get the veggies and fruits in there as well and usually hit a protein shake after the gym. A good amount of sleep is something that is defiantly part of it, but I’m not always good at that myself. The big thing to keep in mind is that every person has a different body, but we can all push them harder. I've always tried to keep myself in decent shape, but I'm going to be really hitting it now that I'm working on a job/new company that requires me to be relatively insane as far as physical fitness goes. The company is an infant right now, but when the time comes I'll share it with everybody. It might be something that could interest those of you who like traveling.

    Facebook Fail!

Haven't been on for a while and this is the first thread I clicked on. Great stuff; makes me feel at home again. hahaha.
  7. Thanks for the anniversary post. I'm glad to see his nephew in F1 now. That family has a rough history with speed though. Aparently Bruno's father was killed in a motorcycle accident...
  8. NWS (Mild, but still...) Seriously though, that sounds like its for a good cause. I've saw a guy get smoked on his bike a couple of years ago. Not cool. Remeber though, if you are one a bike you do not have the right away and must obey the same traffic laws that cars obey.
  9. Monaco, I will be heading out to Morocco on Saterday for an Arabic studies course. It will be short and intensive, only lasting a week, but do you have any special insights into the region or tips that might benefit me? Thanks.
  10. Of course Thanks for video and the offer. I'll get in touch soon.
  11. After about 5 years in the works the Huey from my Indiana Air Search and Rescue finally flew for the first time today. The crew and I have spent thousands of man hours going into the work of this aircraft and we have sacrificed a lot of blood sweat and tears for this day to happen. We have criss-crossed the country from Maine to Arizona and many countless places in-between to get parts and funds and whatever else we could to bring this bird into the air again. We have spent so many hours getting covered in jet fuel and aircraft grease and come home late into the night after many long afternoons working on her. I spent my freshman year of college learning emergency medicine and learned what it feels like to have someone die in my hands, and I've learned what it feels like to save a life with my hands--all so that one day I can bring help and care to others through this helicopter. This helicopter has been so long in the making that I have to go through classes and again recertify in that medical training. It is worth every second spent and I cannot express in words how proud I am of my crewmembers that have helped make this a possibility and those who have donated so much so that we can soon use this helicopter for education and healing. It is truly remarkable. This aircraft has parts on it that run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars and we don't owe a penny on it thanks to donations. Our next major project is to get our C47(s) back in the air. We have two, but as far as right now it looks like only one will fly. I will likely take an extremely active role with that aircraft with the intention of flying it one day. It was one of the first aircraft my grandfather on my mother's side flew and they touched my grandfather on my father's side as well. One of three stories from WWII that my grandfather on my father’s side ever told me, and me alone, was of him walking through a field in France, younger than I am right now, and watching two C47s go flying above him on fire. A moment later they crashed into twin fireballs past a tree line right in front of him. He told me this story on the phone while I was sitting in the cockpit of “Tooie” the first day that I met her at the airport in Tennessee. Tooie was parked in front of an old abandoned 101st Airborne restaurant that looked like a bombed out French Chateau and someone from the crew was playing early 1940s French music in the background that brought us back in time. Today was truly remarkable and I’ve never seen so many grown men weep all at once before. An Englishman and an Irishman have been filming a documentary on us for some time now and I’ll let everyone know when that becomes available. They got some aerial footage today for it and when I saw the raw stuff it looked amazing. If anyone is interested in becoming a charitable member of IASAR PM me and let me know. We should be giving Huey flights in return for charitable donations here in the near future. If anyone is interested and is around the central Indiana area I will keep you updated. Our youtube channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/iasar563#p/a/u/2/yG9E9RR66n0 We should have some more videos up in the near future.
  12. Customer Service was the victim of a murder/suicde by Common Sense. Speaking of strange bills, I just got nailed nearly 1 grand in the middle of my semester when the account was paid off for this semster. Looks like I'll be seeing you guys in the financial trenchs of phantom bills pretty soon.
  13. Just an update. The team will need 4K flat to be able to compete at the 100 Acre Wood Rally at the end of the month. So, if anyone knows of any companies that would like their logos slapped on a Rally Car please PM me. I am also writing an article on this team right now with the intention of submitting it for publications, especially non-industry publications.
  14. I need to get back online more often. I believe you though Gasman. My grandfather got out ran by a non-US aircraft while he was Mach 2 + in his Hustler in the late 60s once. He also made the mistake of reporting it to the tower. LOTS of paper work.
  15. http://www.rally-america.com/story.php?article=592 The White Frog Racing team that competes in the Rally America Super Production class is currently in some funding issues and is looking for some new sponsorship. The above article goes into detail. They are a great group of guys, mostly Poles, based out of Chicago and it would be a shame to lose them from the series when they look so promising. Driver Piotr Wiktorczyk and Co-Driver Greg Dorman have taken White Frog to the X-Games in the past and they looked good at the Sno*Drift rally in MI last month. If anyone knows someone or an organization/company that would be willing to lend a hand please PM me and I will get you in contact with them. Thank you.
  16. It's not just the 16 year olds. I'm in a high school's school zone at least twice a day during start and end of school and I almost never see a kid texting/talking on the phone. The parents though, Jesus Christ............................ As far as Toyotas go, I've got a 99 Solara that has been passed around the family and has 192K on it. Last week replaced the original battery that came with the car. The mechanics were stunned. It also has been running on 100K spark plugs that I just replaced and the belts and water pump went 2X the recommended life and could have gone longer. It has the shitty maintenance record because my parents didn't really take care of it. I've been toying with the question of selling it and picking up a Subaru WRX, but honestly I can't bring myself to do it yet. The car still runs great, cruises at 90mph just fine every day, is cheap as hell on gas/maintenance/insurance, and has sentimental value because my grandfather who flew B-58s owned it first. Even at 12 years old it can still maintain semi-regular hand break pulls without breaking things. As many times as I've thought about it and run through the options I still can't find myself to sell it and get a WRX because when it comes down to it I'm in college still and I'd like to do more with college than my automobile while I'm in my early 20s. If I had a WRX I would not be able to afford traveling abroad or some of the other neat opportunities that come with college. So, she will likely stay will for a couple of years. Hell, when I'm in my 30s I will probably still have that car, except it will be parked in the garage next to something that is mildly insane and I will be so glad that I stuck it out with the 12 year old Toyota that has been through hell.
  17. I'm not a massive fan of the new 4 door look. This though, this is worth a look if you're unfamiliar. Lots of youtube stuff on this SUV as well. http://www.bowler-offroad.com/NAV1.htm
  18. Water vapor is actually a more powerful greenhouse gas than co2. And a Humvee has about the same carbon footprint as a prius.
  19. Where can I find this shirt? I need to wear this around a buddy of mine that decides to let everyone in the world know exactly what time he woke up and exactly how productive his day was and how it was more productive than yours. He's a nice guy though and honestly I don't think he understands how much of a prick he makes himself look like when he turns on his computer every morning. It's kind of annoying (and I'm pretty tolerant) when I log into twitter to check up on rally/racing news and follow John Cleese and all I see is hourly updates from this dude.

    Cali guys

That's not good and I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully everything will be alright.
  21. That’s very true about the corruption. It's awful. One thing that does bother me though is that in modern military conflicts such as Afghanistan, where we have a goal of occupation and eventual transformation to a democracy, is that we don't put a large enough emphasis on educational reforms, infrastructure, and general nation building opportunities. Sure, some say that the "taming" of that area cannot and will not ever be accomplished, but then I point to Alexander the Great. The difference between modern conflicts and Alex was that Alex went to war with Aristotle's advice and instruction, which meant he went to war with Plato as well. That advice and instruction meant that Alex not only brought armies to the lands he concurred but he also brought teachers (of all the fields), architects, and other individuals that helped to found what turned out to be one of the greatest empires the world has ever known. If you liberate a people and then educate them you can alter a society and change the ways that the society operates for the better. Not only will this change that one country but it will make the other countries and nations surrounding that society change to keep up with their newly educated neighbor. In conflicts such as the ones we are fighting right now education is not only a liberating experience to the people, but also the best weapon that they could be provided with. The Taliban and Al Qaida have known this for years; that is why they open, sponsor, and recruit from extremist Islamic madrassas. Sure there is a lot more to it than just educational reform, like a productive counter insurgency and an eradication of corruption, but it is possible. It takes time too, and by time I mean generations. Not many people can stomach generations of effort invested into such a cause, but I see hope for the region. It used to be the largest logistical hub for ground transportation in the world at one point. Who says it can't do that again?

    Cali guys

The Americanstig and I didn't get a chance to take our Mazda 6 rental--converted rally car through there when we were in LA a couple months ago. It was on the list of things to do for our last day, but unfortunatly it didn't happen. I was sad to hear about the fire and the closing. We did take a few nice run through the San Rafael Mountains though. There was that same scortched earth feel about those roads too. Is the road in trouble again; do you guys have more fires in the area? I haven't kept up on the news from out there in the past few weeks.
  23. Thanks for sharing. I hadn't heard that story before. I'm happy to see that someone is addressing education besides the "good-will" of the major powers at be that make piss poor attempts at educational reform. Then again, I'm from Indiana which is ranked towards the bottom of the barrel in education and thinks that cutting teaching jobs and educational funds is best for the state right now. Anyways, I'll try not to get on my soap box, but thank you for sharing that again. I'll add that to the summer reading list when I get done with my current semester.
  24. I watched on my pc... I'll be switching soon hopefully.
