  1. I was looking at the Conti of these years aswell. They are a very cool car. Being in the bizz I have worked on a few of them..which are a complete pain in the ass..and the price of mantinance will make any Lambo appear to be an economy car. This is more then likly the reason they can be had for cheap. I acutally was very close to pulling the trigger just last year on one..just drive for the summer and then dump it. But when I looked around to see how long they sit on dealer lots sometimes for up to 2 years..I said forget it. But one just rolled into the shop on Monday and the owner wants to move up..so..I may see what I can do about putting one in my garage..Wouldn't that just kill the neighbours..they already think I'm a drug dealer
  2. The 308 is a good little car. I service a bunch of them and have owned one. I really enjoyed the car and I really liked how it handled the road. No it was not the best handleing thing on the road..but back in the eights it sure was. It was definatly not fast either LOL far from it. But I didn't buy it for that reason. i bought it because I have always loved the look of the car. Even if it was a Ford..I would have still bought it. It made all the right sounds and on the highway it was very nice to drive. Its funny how the older v12 Lambos such as the Espada, Jarma, Islero are bringing LESS money then a good 308/328. There are far less of those old V!2 Lambos around then the 308's, but people are buying up 308s and restroing them and enjoying them. They can't be all that bad can they? I think many of you here are accosiating some of the poser owners of the 308 with the car. Yes some of the owners are real goofballs and are better suited for a pick-up truck..but lets not let these people taint possiably the most successful and recognizable exotics ever, and one of the most enjoyable cars to come out of Ferrari.
  3. Why would 39k be too much money for that? Heck 308s are getting that kind of money. The Espada is a quarkie machine..but it was the fastest and most forward thinking car of its time. There aren't very many around in this kind of shape, and its a V12 powered exotic car with the Lambo name on it. I say its about time this car got its due. If I could find one I would buy it and drive. Its just too bad these older Lambos are left to rot, while 308s are being bought and restored. Why is that? Why is every older F-car an in demand car, where as the older more rare Lambos are, are left to rot in feilds? Its too bad.
  4. I was looking at the picture of the engine that was posted above..it appears the intake runner/manifolds are from a Ferrari 328, modified to accept and electric injector. As far as I can remember the original V16 had a CIS injection system like a CT or anyother 80's Ferrari for that matter.
  5. These carbon clutches can be done by any competent rebuilder. As long as the have the propper bonding materials, they should last for a long time. That said..that to me looks like abuse to the clutch. Possiable a good clutch dump did that. I have seen it a bunch of times. But it also could very well be a defective disc. As far as I can tell that looks like the OEM clutch (borg and beck) assembly. It has more then likly been rebuilt. Also judging by the pictures//that does not appear to be a carbon fiber clutch either.
  6. Well take 360 out..and put lambo in there..same damn story..traffic is a bitch for exotic car owners. hardly any room to really let them go.
  7. Don't laugh..the guy that can afford to smash a GTO is a man who could probbably afford to buy out everyon on this board many times over. Notice he's not driving a Lambo? Maybe you should rethink your statements before you post such drivel Oh and after he smashed it..he was out on the track again...Could you afford such pleasures?
  8. oh boy..that looks familure!
  9. Register you closet F-car pedophile! :finga:  The auto-box on the 456 was manufactuered by GM, who ceased production on it years ago. In order to get one replaced, it basically has to be created from scratch, which as you can imagine is no small feat. I've heard price estimates in the $30k - $50k range for the job, and even higher amazingly, but I've never talked to anyone personally that had it happen to them. It definitely is something owners are aware of however, enough to where it's now a major red flag on the car in the secondary market. Not quite. The Auto in the 456 is a Richardson unit. It has very unquie internals that allows better torque multiplaction. It also being a transaxel car, makes it quite different from any GM unit that was in production at the time of the 456 release. It is basicly a racing trans but adapted for street use. The end result being an insanly expensive unit. 25k is the price as of last year. I really hope my customers with them love them enough.
  10. Whoa!!...Thats a bit below the belt dude!!...Or should I start calling you Arlie/Horsefly
  11. I could have figured Ferrari would not limit the production of the Enzo to 399 units (well 400 if you include the last one for the auction). They invested a ton of money into the car, and to make their investment back would be impossiable with only 400 units. Hence the MC12 and now this race car. I think this will damage the resale value of the Enzo. Maybe not by much, but enough for those who paid a ton of cash for one to be a little bit pissed off. The Enzo was said to be a very limited run of cars. I have a sneeky suspition that it may end up like the F40. There was only supposed to be 300 of those built, but they ended up making 1100 of them. All the guys that paid a million for them are probbably right pissed, that they are now only worth 300k.
  12. gotta be a Maserati..Merak..Cool looking machine but what a turd
  13. Was this the car that sold for 40k at that auction? They did a write up about it in Classic and Sports Car magazine
  14. First thing first.. When the dealer gets your car..get them to LOAD test the battery. This test simulates a load on the battery as if you where trying to start the car in the coldest weather possiable. If your cold cranking amps are say 600CCA you load the battery to half this amount by way of a huge resistor in whats called an AVR machine. You hold the load at 300cca and watch the battery voltage. If it drops to anything less then 9.6 volts consider that battery finished. If all checks out..now its time to see if the engine itslef turns. Do as others have suggested..put the car in 5th and push the car while looking at the accesory belts..you just need to nudge the car back an forth, this will indocate if the engine is indeed turning. If all is well..time to head to the battery cables. Check for resistance readings. If the readings are too high, replace the cables. If that does not show anything Head down to the starter. I really don't think this is your issue the Diablo starters are pretty heavy duty. But being in the location that it is, it is prone to heat and water.
  15. yes they are junk..but they are very cool. I have worked on a few of them and each time I swore I would never touch another one again. Haveing said that I would buy one just because of the sorta weird history behined the car. I like how they look..but they have a knowen door latch problem and if it breaks when you inside..your stuck..make sure the a/c works..i
  16. Ha..This reminds me of a friend of mine with a POS. He drove the car here from Canada to some kind of big national event in the Carolinas someplace. Big companies sponsoring all kinds of none street legal race cars. I'm talking full tub cars with wheelie bars. the works. He pulls in to register his car according to its class..street/bracket racing. He did a couple of slow passes kept it above 11.5 in the 1/4. As the day wore on he started to get a little deeper into the throttle..clicked off a 10.9..now the track marshells were getting a bit worried. They inquired about the time..he played dumb and was allowed to continue. Towards the end of the evening they had the big dogs come up. One car was sponsored by Summit racing and another car was a massivly sponsored Mustang, full proffesional race crew etc. That car clicked off a 9.7 in the 1/4 and then a 9.6..best run of the day. Well they went back to the street class for the finals. By this time buddy in the POS wanted to go home..but not before one more run. He jumped into the POS, staged, and blasted a 9.0. Everybody FREAKED in the stands..the place was silent for a few seconds. Sponsors and crews were pissed beyond pissed! They were destroyed by a street driven POS that DROVE down from Canada. He got booted from the track and kicked off the grounds aswell. To add insult to injury, he let his wife drive the car off the grounds of the drag park. People were clapping, and giving the thumbs up, the rest of the crews where extremly embarassed, and a few hard glances where shot his way. He was told NEVER to come back to the track again..unless his car was completly caged and all track saftey equipment was in place. To this he replied "why? Its my grocery getter"!! He has a bunch of pics time slips and video of the event..I will try to contact him and post some of it.
  17. What you are looking at, is the fastest way to loose money. Buy that car for 100k and the next year sell it for 65k. What a good car to buy! BMW..Broke My Wallet.
  18. all too familure..Don't sweat it my friend..she'll be up and running before you know it.
  19. Water pump is your most likely source for the leak..But you may want to check to be sure that the large banjo fitting is not leaking. There are 2 copper washers on either side of the bolt. These have a tendancy to loose there sealing ablity over a long time. If it is indeed leaking from there, try to tighten it up a bit. If this does not cure it..replace the washers. Fuel leak: How full was the tank of fuel? If it was right full..you may have a vent line that is leaking at the top of the tank. Also be sure your sending unit gasket is not leaking aswell. I would check ALL fuel lines/hoses including the cross over pipe that runs just behined the diff housing. An even better thing to do would be to just replace all the rubber fule hoses in the car. They are now 20 years old. Overheating cat: Is the A.I.R injection system still operating? If it is..remove the A.I.R pump belt..and then let the car run. If your cat no longer overheats..you have an A.I.R injection problem..stuck diverter solinoid etc. Or you could just leave the belt off and not worry about it anymore. If this does not cure your problem..Get your car to a shop with a 5 gas analizer. The machine tells you exactly what you car is producing at the tail pipe. If you peg the machine at HC4000ppm..you know your running way rich. Have them set it up according to spec. This spec should be printed in the factory owners manuel that came with the car. If its not there I can get it for you. The Countach was really bad for cat overheats and this did cause may Countaches to go up in flames. If your state does not require emissions, I would remove the cats altogether for your saftey and the cars. Once fixed up..you will have one sweet ride..enjoy!!
  20. I'm a little bit worried about the fact that you even have such a book..Somthing you are not telling us? Oh..and the post by Jota is an owned to the rest of the board..good post my friend. People buy what they want when they want it no matter how much its costs. You wanna play you gatta pay..and the Ferrari guys anti-up when its time to drop the bucks. They don't care if the car is slower, they don't care that they can get a Lambo below MSRP the next day..they don't care one bit. It is you guys that care way too much what Ferrari guys do with their OWN money and the cars they chose to spend it on. Grow up and accept the fact that Lambo will never have a following the size of Ferrari, and they will never be in the position that Ferrari is in, to the point of treating thier customers like crap and people will still line up for the cars. That my friends is a serious following.
