TRANSAMERA Report post Posted November 8, 2010 After seeing lots of new threads of members here looking for options of a new dailydriver I thought we might as well start a brand new ultimate thread, hopefully it will help us who are looking for a new car The criterias we must concider; 1. The car must be fast and be fun to drive 2. It has to cope with snow/winter 3. It has to feel modern for at least 2 years to come 4. It has to look good but still be somewhat practical 5. It should cost no more than 100K What does everyone here think, what would you buy and why?
LyinFapper Report post Posted November 8, 2010 What's snow and winter? I would also add - lean more on the side of comfort and features then full blown performance (but like Slowpoke said also be fast and fun to drive)

ContinentalGT Report post Posted November 8, 2010 For the past year, mine has been my Bentley Continental GT. It has prestige and performance all in one bundle. I would use it in winter with a good set of 'snow' tires. It has AWD and weighs almost 6,000lbs..its a tank! It's an 05 so it falls below $100K, and has 4 seats if you have more than one passenger. Come this winter, I am in the process of trading her in for: BMW X6M. 2010 BMW X6M with some miles on it falls in the low $80K's. AWD, 7k lb towing capacity, comfortable, and the most powerful car in BMW's fleet at 555 hp, more so than the M6. I am very excited and will let you all know what I think when I have some seat time. Either way you cant go wrong: Bentley GT or BMW X6M. Hits all the nails on the head.

Nissan GTR, BMW M3 and Audi S5...I am not sure if the BMW or Audi handles well in snow since we don't have snow..but the gtr is good in it as a friend owns one in Canada and drives it as a winter car..they're all pretty modern and fast..great 2door coupes..has back seats...price wise I am not too sure..but I guess it's enough? TRANSAMERA Report post Posted November 8, 2010 Either way you cant go wrong: Bentley GT or BMW X6M. Hits all the nails on the head. Except a few things IMHO; They are thirsty, I use my DD a lot and wouldn't mind something more sane, I'm not talking a shitty Peugot diesel here but something in the terms of a Audi RS5 or GT-R consumption is ok, the CGT and X6 probably guzzles twice that.. The fun factor driving theese cars can't be high? They are as you said, tanks.. With that said, I must admit they fit the price range and other criterias very good and I have been checking them both out but passed since the above written. maybe I should add that the car should be new or at least a 2009 year model, I like the feeling of getting a new car! Keep them comming guys!
SV-N-IT Report post Posted November 8, 2010 GTR or 997TT, thsese are the best 2 IMO, im just trying to figure out which one is better.
pockmark Report post Posted November 8, 2010 Since snow is looking for a car DD knowing him, I think the GTR is his best bet. Even though I am not exstatic about the looks, it is a car I would gladly DD. Stupidly, I keep recommending it, and driving up the used GTR market. I have seen them in the low 60k area for 2009's with 10,000 or so miles.

I allready have a A/S5, it works perfect for snow but is to damn slow and bulky tiptronic in the S5 is no good, the RS5 is tons better but has very low value for the $. 90% of the BMW are RWD and that sucks, plus Audi owns BMW in every damn aspect lately! The GTR is an awesome car, but 2 of 3 cars I know the owners of have been at the shop for months, failed transmissions, engines etc and they are all stock, build quality seems to suck! I'm off to testdrive the brand new A7 in a few hours, hopefully it will be awesome and the S7 is comming within 6 months! TRANSAMERA Report post Posted November 8, 2010 GTR or 997TT, thsese are the best 2 IMO, im just trying to figure out which one is better. Isn't the 997 TT boring? I have never driven a 997 Turbo but the first thing that comes to my mind is; Boring Plus a 997 TT PDK is lots of $ The GTR is cool, but I'm not convinced, maybe I should drive my friends cars, right after they are fixed at the shop were they sit for months awaiting new trans/engines etc Since snow is looking for a car DD knowing him, I think the GTR is his best bet. Even though I am not exstatic about the looks, it is a car I would gladly DD. Stupidly, I keep recommending it, and driving up the used GTR market. I have seen them in the low 60k area for 2009's with 10,000 or so miles. That is so cheap! Here they are still like 110K US

Guzzlers is an understatement! I live in the city and get 8-10 mpg or so on the Bentley right now while staying in town. For better fuel efficiency I would agree these may not be the best choices. And yes they are both tanks, but they sure can haul ass. Good luck! I am interested to see what kind of suggestions everyone else can offer up. Dry track? I am talking of a daily driver here, not trackcars.. I have 3 friends with GTR's, 2 of them had their cars blew up, one twice.. Swil Report post Posted November 8, 2010 I don't think boring is as much of an issue. you want a canyon carver, get a GSL (either one) or CarreraGT. We're talking about a daily.. A car that coddles you each day in the bs of rush hour traffic. A car that leaves you feeling refreshed like you just sat in it after a long driving trip. A car that isn't as ostentatious to clients or colleagues (if that sort of thing matters) yet cool enough to be able to take the Wifey or GF on a date to the finest restaurant in style. quick enough to give you a grin but comfortable and quiet enough for your 2 yr old to curl up in the back seat and snooze all day. All good options so far. I think for me (which I am looking right now) I think my personal choices are the BentleyGT (very happy the 2011 doesn't look any different than the '06), Granturismo or an S63. Just have to decide if I want 2 or 4 doors. Give it two years though and I think I'd give a resounding ESTOQUE!!!!!!
SAB Report post Posted November 8, 2010 It may not be many peoples choice but, a Subaru Impreza Turbo AWD is a car that will cope with the snow, is practical, has 4/5 seats, plenty of boot space, is reliable and is fun to drive in the snow, rain or dry. Juice it Report post Posted November 8, 2010 DD for a single dude that may take 1 passenger or DD for guys with a family? Big difference. Also, I would say cars and SUV's should each have their own category since a Range Rover DD and a 911T are 2 completely different peoples idea of a DD. DrVertigo Report post Posted November 8, 2010 Not sure what the US price is, and some of you might consider it a bit slow, but how about the new Jaguar XJ? Bentley-quality interior and technology for half the price, and a full complement of morbidly obese passengers lighter. Personally, I also really like the way it looks.
