Attention citizens of the world,

We wish to get your attention, hoping you heed the warnings as follows:

Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed. If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill facebook for the sake of your own privacy.

Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called whitehat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and Syria.

Everything you do on Facebook stays on Facebook regardless of your "privacy" settings, and deleting your account is impossible, even if you "delete" your account, all your personal info stays on Facebook and can be recovered at any time. Changing the privacy settings to make your Facebook account more "private" is also a delusion. Facebook knows more about you than your family. Facebook knows too much, ACLU says in warning of quizzes....

You cannot hide from the reality in which you, the people of the internet, live in. Facebook is the opposite of the Antisec cause. You are not safe from them nor from any government. One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you.

The riots are underway. It is not a battle over the future of privacy and publicity. It is a battle for choice and informed consent. It's unfolding because people are being raped, tickled, molested, and confused into doing things where they don't understand the consequences. Facebook keeps saying that it gives users choices, but that is completely false. It gives users the illusion of and hides the details away from them "for their own good" while they then make millions off of you. When a service is "free," it really means they're making money off of you and your information.

Think for a while and prepare for a day that will go down in history. November 5 2011, #opfacebook . Engaged.

This is our world now. We exist without nationality, without religious bias. We have the right to not be surveilled, not be stalked, and not be used for profit. We have the right to not live as slaves.

We are anonymous

We are legion

We do not forgive

We do not forget

Expect us

What do the techguys think of this, possible?

If anyone Can, it'll be them. I wonder who's going to win this little bout of Game Theory though.

They're announcing the date they're going to bring it down, but is Facebook buying it? If Facebook buys it, then they'll beef up their security, which Anonymous will see. If Anonymous sees it they can launch another note saying how the new system won't work.

If Facebook doesn't buy it and they don't change anything, to show that they aren't scared or aren't worried, then Anonymous, if they aren't bluffing (i suspect they aren't), will probably hit anyway.

The third option is that Facebook somehow changes it's processes and protocols with regards to privacy...this one is the least likely.

I want to see it happen because it'll make things fun.

I don't get this whole privacy thing with facebook. If you want to keep stuff private, DON'T POST IT ON TEH INTERNETS!

It's as simple as that.

I wonder if they are going to hack it and release information to others or just try a denial of service attack and shut the site down for the day.

No no no, you got it all wrong. See, you're using logic and reasoning. How dare you do that in this day and age!

I was also wondering if they'd do a DDOS attack or if they'd go after the personal information of all or of specific facebook staff. I doubt that they'd go after the users' personal information as that goes against what they supposedly stand for.

Some people really get a pointless hard on for websites that don't feature porn.

I'm guessing within two years Facebook will go wayside and be like MySpace. Too many hacks, too many businesses and apps and stupid crap on it. The security is a joke. And Suckerburg sold out on it to Goldman. I'm only on there to stay connected - but slowly transitioning over to Google+

facebook down again. If this keeps up the hackers won't actually have to do anything by their date.. fear will already do the rest. Good thing it didn't go public yet eh?

Because google isn't going to use/sell your personal info?

Who ever said if you think its free, know that it's never free is right.

Didn't the FBI find and arrest a bunch of "anons" not long ago? I thought romandad posted something up with pics and an article of it or something, or maybe that was rob?
