What exactly is this place RD?

It is the "clubhouse" for the" Acadamy of Magical Arts", of which I am a member.

It is to magicians worldwide what Disneyland is to children. Ithas several bars and a restaurant that are open to the members and our guests. It also has several "members only" areas, including a library that houses all the great secrets of magic going back to the origins of the art.

Yes. Today is the anniversary of Houdinis death. And tonight is the biggest night at the castle. The famous halloween party.

Sucks man. That place would be amazing to visit, do you have to be a magician to become a member?

We have two levels of Membership- "Magician members" which I am and "associate members".

Magician Members have to undergo an "audition" to join. Keep in mind, EVERY Major magician in the world is a member of the club... You are auditioning before the BEST OF THE BEST... For instance- I auditioned in front of TC TAHOE, BILLY MCCOMB AND MARK WILSON. We have full access to all areas of the club.

Associate members pay higher dues, and are restricted to the guest areas of the club.

Wow, really hope too much hasn't been lost.

This is an area I have been getting more and more in to, the history of the art and some of the performers is incredibly interesting. The castle is one thing that continuously gets referenced, so hopefully not too much significant damage has been done.

RD, are you able to share any more info on your experiences there? Would love to hear any stories you may have, especially what the audition process was like from your end. May I ask what general area you specialise in?

You may want to check this out... Its a pretty good "Tour" of the Castle...

Rumor is, we may be open Friday.

The audition process.... Its been a while... Close to 15 years now... But as I recall, the auditions are held once a month. An applicant must perform 3 effects as part of an overall performance (in other words if you walk in and say "Heres a card trick." "Heres a coin trick" youre toast- It has to be a SHOW, with "patter" and be entertaining).

One effect MUST be a card trick, and one MUST NOT be a card trick.

Its you, sitting at a round card table, with three magician judges sitting at the table with you. About 1/3 of the applicants are rejected on the first audition... They are invited to try again no earlier than two months later. And keep in mind, the applicants are MAGICIANS, who have been PRACTICING MAGIC (many professionally) FOR YEARS... So its a pretty steep hurdle.

I simply told a story of how I became interested in the art... IIRC, TC said, "So, how long have you been interested in magic?" and since the answer to that question was LITERALLY the theme of my performance, I said, "IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED! and told of being a little kid going to disneyland, and when everybody else would run off to the matterhorn, Id run to the magic shop... Which was the lead in to my first effect (which is a fcuking KILLER version of "Twisting the Aces")

TC and Wilson looked at each other and sort of nodded.... I hadnt done a single trick yet, and I knew as long as I didnt light myself on fire, I was in.

Very cool place. Thanks for sharing!

Hope it can be fixed and back in business quickly. It would be a shame to lose a treasure like that.

I saw this on the news yesterday and remember RD mentioned this place a year or so ago and I was like, "Damn Romandad is going to be upset about this!" My wife looked at me a little strange and said, who is romandad? :icon_mrgreen:

Anyway, hope nothing was too serious and that you guys are up and running again soon!
