dinko Report post Posted September 1, 2013 Had a convo with a friend, without giving you too much details, what do you think about this simple LAW: You can't have kids, unless you can afford them. You want kids? Pass a means test (Financial/Mental). Here's the scenario How could this possibly be done? As of year 201x, all males / females born will have surgery to prevent them from having children which can be reversed at a later time. Once they are 18, they are allowed to set up an appointment ($500 fee) to see if they qualify to have kids. If not, $500 down the drain. If they pass the financial/mental means, they can have kids. Thoughts?
escobar Report post Posted September 1, 2013 I'd love to agree with you, but so many things wrong in that scenario. With that logic, you may as well microchip them and do a blood/DNA test for any future crimes they may commit. I would never want to be born into such a place. So many kids are born today thinking that it is okay to get free hand outs. Look at just the top 10 earners on this forum, how many Section 8 / Food Stamps do you think they pay for? What I posted has the potential of reducing taxes, crime, etc.

yellomurci Report post Posted September 1, 2013 i think you would find the age of the population would get old very quickly and the country would fall into decline. i might be wrong but i think without immigration the US birth rate is less than the rate that the population is dieing off anyway. Also if you like your senario just go to China as they have a one child rule dont they?

Also if you like your scenario just go to China as they have a one child rule dont they? My scenario was merely just a thought that I wanted share on LP. I haven't given it much thought at all, as it's mostly just a talk a friend and I had to shoot the shit. Our scenario was based on people who simply don't want anything from life, are collecting food stamps, and don't even want to bother getting a job - yet the same people have no problem having kids. This is the video that brought up our topic:
Assman Report post Posted September 1, 2013 Gattaca anybody? While I understand where you're coming from there's much more bad there than good. I do think EDUCATEing as many people as possible and not incentivizing people like those in the video is the best bet. As so many books and movies have shown, in a perfect world, something always is wrong.
Kerplop Report post Posted September 1, 2013 Gattaca anybody? While I understand where you're coming from there's much more bad there than good. I do think EDUCATEing as many people as possible and not incentivizing people like those in the video is the best bet. As so many books and movies have shown, in a perfect world, something always is wrong. Agree. Educate people and offer them opportunities. Parents can be as dumb as a tree, but often times those kids in poverty end up growing up with enormous amounts of potential and knowledge and become successful. The stupidity of a parent does not always determine the end motivation of a child becoming an adult. Are there shitty parents with shitty kids out there? Yeah. Are there good parents with shitty kids? Yeah. But I think offering education and opportunity for those who want to reach for it and work hard to get it is just fine as well. No one likes moochers and leeches in society, but they are in every society in every part of the world. Besides, what would you do, chain them to a wall if they don't pass a test and tell them if they go have sex and have kids they go to prison? Confine them to live in a special area separated from the opposite sex? Attach bracelets that shoot GPS coordinates to the police if they detect humping? What would that cost? Do they go on watch lists and do we dedicate state and federal money to watching them to make sure they aren't doing it because they were deemed "too dumb for kids"??? I mean how do you REALLY "keep people from having sex" aside from chopping off the tool necessary. Are we going to have giant tests and start lobbing parts off? the whole idea is ridiculous. albuht813 Report post Posted September 2, 2013 I share your sentiment regarding this sense of entitlement and outrageous abuse of public funds that we pay for. It's completely outrageous that these people don't understand what responsibility means and show no remorse for their actions! I think it will take more than just education to fix this problem because it's now become a part of their culture and way of life! Having 20 baby daddy's and 10 kids is the norm and what everyone is used to. DCFS shouldn't be paying her rent. She is an unfit mother putting her children in this situation. Her children should be placed in foster homes and orphanages where they will be fed, healthy, and taken care of.

dinko Report post Posted September 2, 2013 I don't mean to offend anyone for the record. Many of you have valid points and I agree with them. I just couldn't believe the woman above had 10 kids by different fathers yet can't afford to take care of them. I feel bad for the kids that are born into a world by parents who could be better educated.
escobar Report post Posted September 2, 2013 I get what you're saying Dinko. People like those in the video you posted make me angry too but the scenario you described is not a solution, it's an even bigger problem.
KING-640 Report post Posted September 2, 2013 All of our problems can be solved with better politicians; so instead of these bible thumping, ten commandments should be the law idiots, I propose that all individuals seeking higher public office have to renounce god and religion and have an IQ score of more that 135. Also, make ALL religious institutions pay taxes. Why not? Where's separation of church and state?

ameer Report post Posted September 2, 2013 While no one likes a moocher, and people such as the woman in the video may pose a genuine concern to society, the solution proposed is far fetched, unrealistic, abusive and completely unnecessary. The simplest solution is to stop supporting people like that, in time they will be weeded out of society. For thousands of years humans have survived and thrived without handouts, I don't see why it's necessary now. Money spent on welfare should be used for the purpose of job training, a gvt agency that collects and centralizes data about the kind of jobs companies need to fill and are in short supply, in order to direct jobless people into training would be of immense service to society, rather than just thinking up more ways of giving away free stuff. Then there are the people who don't want to work, sorry no one owes you a living. If they don't want to work, then they must be compelled to do it, no better way of doing that than removing their welfare privileges. Welfare should be granted to people who genuinely lost their jobs and are looking for a new one, not to the ones who aren't interested in working for a living.
