  1. 100 bucks and worth every freaking penny. BTW the budget for the Amazon prime "top gear" will be a little more than tripple that of what it was with the BBC. Supposedly they too the majority of the production staff with them as well so we should still see great cinematography still.
  2. The A-10 while an amazing aircraft in its own right is getting dated (I personally love the ugly bird and have been sharing the pattern with them for the past few weeks and its been a joy). Saying that what the soldiers want is what we need to listen to would be like saying that you want to use a Saturn rocket to put your satellite up, you listen to NASA the people who know WTF they are talking about not the client. In this (admit ably crappy) analogy Ive made up the person who doesn't know what they want is the troop on the ground calling the strike, they just know they want fire put on a target not what kind of bomb or round (yes there are Jtac's who know but not always) The problem with the A-10 arises with its gun, That bad ass gun. It hasn't been able to be used as a tank buster in years. With the increase in armor on the vast majority of Main Battle tanks it wont penetrate their armor anymore , hell the A-10's claimed effectiveness will penetrate only about 10% of the M1 Abrams Armor depth at 500 meters range (multiple hits in the same spot may work in its favor but that usually doesn't happen) yes it may take a mobility kill if it hits side or rear but if its gonna go up against hardened armor it will just use its other armaments anyways. And there is the catch, if its not gonna use the main component the aircraft was designed around then why keep it, it becomes just another missile/bomb platform which an F-15/16/18/etc etc can do just as well. Don't get me wrong I have seen a number of strikes with A-10s and they do an absolute number on soft targets but for what the aircraft was designed for its no longer suited. Yes it does have the advantage of a longer dwell time but with F-16's running Yo Yo ops (when aircraft A is going out to fuel aircraft b is orbiting/striking, when aircraft a gets back to target aircraft b goes and refuels) its an unnoticeable gain. Do I want to see the A-10 go, Hell no. Do I understand why they want to get rid of it, Yes. But then again I would have said the same exact thing for the Sr-71. *As you said not trying to argue just showing the other side of the coin*
  3. I know what you mean but ive got an itch to do a Boba Fett themed DMR style ar 15 (OD green with a little bit of yellow and maroon peppered in) and I feel like it needs to be "battle worn".
  4. Valid point. However as a RC aircraft and commercial pilot I can say that this stuff is getting somewhat blown out of proportion. RC aircraft have been around since the 1920's and really "took off" (see what i did there?) in the 70's and 80's Quad/hexa/octo copters are just the latest craze. The only reason why this has been getting more publicity IMHO is that the media is able to use the phrase "drone" which brings up connotations of massive military death machines and also the fact that with recent technological developments you are able to get into any RC aircraft for a hell of a lot cheaper than it was in the past and they are alot easier to fly. In the past there have been situations where RC aircraft have played havoc with commercial aircraft before however most of the people flying RC in the past where enthusiast who put alot of time and money into their hobby (generally) and took it seriously. Now that any jimbob can go out and pick up a 400 dollar DJI phantom and fly it with little to no knowledge of the rules or courtesies we are seeing issues starting to crop up. Is there an issue, Yes i do think there is. Is it anywhere near the level that it has blown up into, No. For all the people who say there need to be more rules, RC aircraft are already not supposed to fly over 400ft agl within 3 miles of an airport, within 5 miles of an airport with out notifying the tower, near manned aircraft or anywhere within a disaster area/open air gathering of people. So in every single one of these incidents (baring the one that got shot down in this article which comes down to courtesy) rules were already broken by people who didnt do their homework before buying a "drone". Side note, THESE ARE NOT DRONES! they are elaborate RC aircraft thats it. (sorry one of my pet peeves)
  5. I have been excited for this movie from as soon as they announced it. I feel like Ryan Reynolds cast as dead pool is like casting Robert Downey Jr as Iron man, its just perfect.
  6. they have been cropping up alot, i was looking at the liberty Lincoln line as a possibility
  7. Im looking at picking up a gun safe (first one) im trying to keep my price around the 2-3k mark and about the 30ish gun range, I will also be storing other things than firearms in it. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Dredd

Bump of an old thread http://nerdist.com/exclusive-we-talk-to-ad...cc-judge-dredd/
  9. I had one polymer lower a while ago that had similar issues, it wouldn't fit my DPMS based upper and but it fit my friends stag arms based upper so he bought it from me and i never bought another one again.
  10. I had a similar experience when I was going through my fixed wing training (multi engine) where I couldn't go flying one evening as work came up so I told a friend that he could take my launch time as I wasn't going to be able to use it and go on his night cross country for his lesson. Long story short he went on the same route I was planning on going my and they hit a flock of geese and bent the elevator nearly vertical, they went from 130kts to 0 in about 7seconds and plummeted into a lake they didn't survive . It took me a long damn time to get over it,the first month I barely even tried it because I couldn't shake the fact that I felt responsible for his death by giving him my time. Then it changed to an "that should have been me" feeling. After some time I would think I was good to go and schedule a flight then cancel it as I struggled with it. The worst was talking to his parents. Not gonna lie it was really tough but it's the nature of this hobby/field you know there is some danger in it and shit can and does go wrong some times. I still think about Adam and Annette every time I fly.
  11. I flight instructed for about 5 years (still have my rating but dont practice that anymore) and now Im doing test flying. It is a fantastically fun and can be fantastically frustrating at the same time. Im going to give you the same advice I give everyone who wants to start out. 1) Take an intro/exploratory flight(or flights) before you decide to start training. It can cost alot of coin to get your ratings (15-20k+ is not unheard of for just a private pilot) 2) Find a flight instructor you like. Not everyone's teaching style or personality works with everyone else. I never took offense if a student wanted to work with someone else and any professional instructor shouldn't be either. You will be sharing a small cockpit with this person for an extended period of time so make sure you like them. 3) The more time you take off between flights the more review flights you will do. Keep at it, it is amazing how rusty you can get with little disuse. 4) As others have said, Get your instrument rating! It is great training and can save your life some day. 5) Ask questions, its going to happen where something wont make sense to you, ask until you understand it. You are paying your flight instructor for 1 on 1 training they should be able to get you to understand a concept. Its a lot easier to answer questions than it is to fix problems after the fact. 6) Finally have fun, there is no other hobby or profession like it. Make sure you dont get burned out and have fun with it. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
  12. what you just described is exactly what drew me more to lambo than ferrari. Most of the ferrari guys are stuck up pricks and the lambo guys are more laid back and having fun (not allways the case but seems more often than not).
  13. So apparently we will stop seeing all these factory lap records after recent crashes have caused newly imposed rules and restrictions. http://www.apex-the-movie.com/blog/2015/6/...ned-lap-records
  14. fantastic color combo! looks great and enjoy it in good health.
  15. yup they are going to run it as 1 (presumably longer) special. Its them classic car rallying and them in 250 pound suvs. THere will be no star in a reasonably priced car, news or any studio stuff. Should just be the films with maybe an intro by may and hammond.
  16. i saw that car about 3-4 times at various car shows and I loved it, whish they would have made it Same goes for the Cadillac Cien
  17. THat is a fantastic video for that I always used this one for teaching students about engine outs.
  18. Quick reaction time and thankfully an airport right there.
  19. for normal (aka not super loud) shooting i just use the surefire sonic defenders earplugs, easily the most comfortable earplugs ive used. I actually use them on the headset i use for flying (i think i have like 15 or 16 pairs in all my gun cases and flight cases). When im gonna shoot something really loud or indoors i will double up with the sonic defenders and howard leight earmuffs
  20. Anybody ever done a 80% 1911 frames, Ive been doing a lot of research while overseas and I kinda want to try my hand at making a gun. Anybody have any advice?
  21. john oliver has been on a roll lately, he makes a lot of good points. Yes sometimes he goes on too much of a tangent but he still brings up good arguments and brings it to the common public.
  22. photoshop is one hell of a color heres the original
  23. what exhaust system is on it or has it just got different than factory tips?
