iPhone 5!

I have a crazy prediction....

 

 

I predict a few months down the road they will release the "Iphone 5.2" with the OLD connector interface....

 

 

I think this may be Apple's "New Coke" moment.

 

I did not realize what a HUGE fcuking deal this is for people who have IPOD plug and play devices... I dont personally own any, but it sounds likes its a serious impediment to upgrading.... The snarkiness of it isn't lost on most consumers.... And given the option of upgrading all that peripheral crap, versus staying with a 4 that works with it all, seems to be an issue in these current economic times.... You can justify the 200-400 outlay for the phone (even though I dont see 400 of improvements there) but all the other crap too? fcuk it.

The adaptor isnt going to work with a lot of that shit that CRADLES the phone.... Its going to be clunky and added on (And Ive been using an adapter to connect mini USB to APPLE and let me say, adapters suck.... They just cant take the day to day abuse of being plugged in and out and manhandled....) and these apple folks are all about haveing their shit LOOK cool... and a condom between your phone and your player aint cool....

 

BTW... .What are they doing in Europe? Europe has mandated the mini USB on all phones... Free adapters?

 

 

I love my 4s.... GREAT phone.... But apple's bullshit like this REALLY gets under my skin.... Me... Id short the fcuking stock, because a company can only play these games a few times before customers walk. And once they walk, they never come back.

I don't get all the hate on the connector. The old one was shitty and outdated and had to go in a certain way. They kept the same pin design for nine years - an enternity in the tech world.

 

Apple makes a major design change that is proprietary- did anyone expect them to do anything different?

What I said in my posts as well. Glad someone else is agreeing. I wouldn't short the stock, because as long as it's an "in" product they can pull all kinds of shit, but like I said, somewhere down the line, it can be one year, it can be 5. People will stop and think "why the hell am I paying top-dollar for a mid ranged product that is locked into the Apple Empire?" Their INSANE profit margins will go down the drain. People are also fed up with all the BS lawsuits Apple is pulling at every corner. Spotify is taking over the music, Google Drive/Dropbox can be used to sync all your content on every device you own. All that syncing that Apple was good at is now obsolete and no longer needed because we have free/paid services that do a better job at it and keeping options open.

 

I would not touch the Apple stock today. Not a chance.

Maybe people finally start realizing how fcuking stupid a one brand proprietary connector is... Everyone else and their mother has standardized on USB.

 

As far as the European requirement, I think it's only the charger part that needs to be USB, not the connector to the phone.

I like the connector better than the last one only because you can plug it whichever way, the old one was a massive PITA it always took two goes.

I'm pretty sure they're both anodized, plain aluminum is soft and very easy to scratch. Scratches will be harder to see on the white one tough.

Agree. I take their own development engineers' words as being truthful, which is that the old connector was forcibly discarded for packaging reasons (to save space). Those thinking it's capitalism at work or a whorish money play by Apple are entitled to their opinions, but not everything a company does is solely motivated by a cynical capitalism-at-all-costs mentality.

 

Yes buying new accessories sucks, but if the end result is a smaller/lighter phone I'm ok with it so long as it's not a more frequent change than every 2-3 years. I change golf clubs more often than that, and none of them even provide a benefit!

The scratch issue on the black chamfered (beveled) edge is likely a problem, possibly a paint adhesion defect that the company has yet to own up to.

 

I've had two silver spots pop up through the black (painted) metal antenna band already, and I don't carry my phone in my pocket with my keys or any other hard edge. It's literally babied most of the time, and it hasn't been dropped yet.

 

I may swap it out for a white one, we'll see how it goes, but I prefer the black personally.

To those that have the iPhone 5 and coming from the iPhone 4, obioulsy the cool guys of LP , how does the batterie usage compare, mine sucks it as if it was going out if fashion.

Forget to mention that in my post above, so far mine has been about the same, +/- 5% either way.

 

On standby I'd lose about 7% a day with the 4, and so far that's identical to the drain on the 5. I haven't sat down and played a solid game for a few hours yet or been stranded long enough to test a multi-hour surfing session so it's not definitive in the least, but so far with the same settings the light-use time seems to be about the same.

Yesterday, I was on whatsapp for about 6 hours, text, photos and some videos ( some members of my family are currently vacationing on three different continents) I'd say approximately 1 hour of web browsing LP, viewing around 40 emails, no replies and the batterie was completely out, I don't usually use the phone in his manner but the 5 even under my normal usage seems to go through batterie a lot faster, I was hoping there will be a solution to it.
