  1. Can you not do more than 3 units per acre? Is that just the expectation of your market? The shotgun house you posted a picture of is quite common in the high-demand inner city areas here, but they're built on 33' lots and fetch 13-20X your values... Does your market really demand 1/3 acre parcels for $100,000? Sounds like you've got a great property, but it would obviously be better to squeeze another unit or two per acre
  2. Best description I've heard yet
  3. I agree 100% I know the Urus concept has been consistent since inception, but I always thought the idea of a new LM002 made more sense, both as a nod to the brand and from a marketing stand point. In the vein of the "Rambo Lambo", it should be big, powerful and masculine. What Lamborghini should've done is out-G-wagon'd the G-Wagon... You think your G65 is bad ass with that V12? Mine's bigger (and more powerful)! You think your G550 4x4^2 is bonkers? Mine is more bonkers! The market segment is much less crowded and (IMO) less prone to comparison shopping... No one really cross-shops a G63; you either 'get it' or you don't, but they're so cool and unique, there's nothing to compare to... No one even cares that they're garbage to drive filled with out-dated tech LOL. Instead, the Urus will inevitably be compared to the Range Rover SVRs, Cayenne Turbo S', Bentaygas, and even GLE 63S & X5/6Ms... Way to go Lambo; you've inserted yourself into a segment mostly populated by vehicles costing less than half. Mega missed opportunity to do something different. Something "Lambo"
  4. Not meaning to de-rail, but is the resale on the Phantoms really that bad? I mean, they drop, but they seem to do better than anything else at that level, like a Maybach, Arnage / Mulsanne, even the S600/65, BMWs, etc...
  5. I've always kind of thought of Rolex as the "Porsche of watches", but hadn't thought of how the other brands correspond. Does that make Lambo the AP and Ferrari the Patek of the watch-trinity?
  6. I've done it this way and it works very well. Alternatively, I've had dealers do the same thing... Seller shows up with car and title, dealer confirms title is clear and the car is what it's supposed to be, dealer holds title until seller verifies the wire hit and then sends the title. Bonus points to this method because the dealer can hold the car (safe and sound) and they probably have better access for the transporter. Shout out to Roy; he has done this for me on a few occasions in the past (thanks Roy!).
  7. So here's another question that I haven't had a chance to ask directly - Can I buy the ring from, say, Cartier and the diamond separately? Or is that really frowned upon? I realize I could easily have the setting replicated, but from what I've seen, this is where price between the 'brands' and the independents doesn't vary that much, so my thought is why stray from what I know she likes.
  8. I'm in the same position, though probably a little further along in the process. Typically I prefer to support local bricks and mortar jewelry shops. For example, when it comes to watches, I never felt the 10% that I could save by buying online was worth all of the 'extras' that come from dealing with someone local and building a relationship. The future Mrs. 12 really liked the idea of engagement ring coming in a little teal box, but the pricing of the big online diamond vendors (Bluenile, etc) is very good and makes them a very compelling alternative. When comparing pricing I've received from the local stores and Tiffany's, I'm talking about Bluenile being 50-66% less... That's enough for another watch or two for me! The main thing is to do the research and become familiar with what makes for a quality diamond. There are several members here who really know their stuff and I'ma looking forward to what they have to contribute
  9. Didn't you have a red Murci at one time? I would love to see an SV in something like BMW's old Carbon Black with silver wheels and orange callipers.
  10. You mean the brand-new trucks on the ground already asking below MSRP? Those ones?
  11. No, that's why there's a market for 96 month financing...
  12. Congrats on the move. You've picked an interesting time to come to Calgary for the NEB! The area you've outlined is all fine, insofar that there aren't really any bad parts, just some more lively than others. The best thing to do once you get here is just explore a little. The main nodes are going to be along 4th and 1st street, 17th 11th and the next block over from your office along 10th. My office is just around the corner from the NEB office (I know some people there too), so if you want to PM me your contact info, we could grab coffee / drink / lunch when you get here and I could try and help you get settled.
  13. Largest volume; takes time to readjust the expectations of that many owners...
  14. I second SingleSeat in that I can't imagine the same 'click' with an adopted child. This takes nothing away from the inherent altruism of adoption; it's just different. I remember when my first was born, I literally gasped when I heard her little cry and saw her for the first time. That was the 'click'. My cousin recently adopted a young girl and after hearing about the (very) lengthy application process, there simply isn't the same on/off occasion of "you're not a dad, now you are"... Something that cannot be replicated, no matter how similar the end result is.
  15. We had the same discussion at the dinner table last night when my four year old was having a 'drama moment'... My wife looked at the horror on my face and laughingly said "just wait 10 years when both of them are like this. All the time. For no reason." But they're still my favourite things in the world! We (or at least I) didn't intend on having a third, certainly not now... We're both happy that we're going to have a boy... Plus now me and the dog won't be as out-numbered! To tie in with JKs post and bring this back on topic, there is nothing that inspires me to succeed and be a better man than my family, particularly my children. I can't explain why, but ever since we found out that we were going to have a son, I've felt even more motivated, I suppose in part because now I know I need to raise a man... Whatever that means (to bring us full-circle )
  16. That's better, thanks. Still doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would cause one to fall from grace with Ferrari and he's been involved at a high level since the events in the wiki post (FXX programme, special production car allocations, etc)...
  17. Jalopnik can't be considered a reliable source for information on cars... Their comments section sure as fcuk isn't a reliable source for information on the character of a world class Ferrari collector. Any other information? Edit - there is some merit to the comments about his age... There was a theory shared on another forum that Ferrari is shifting their preferential treatment to younger customers who have, um, more time as VIP customers ahead of them... I can see how that makes sense. Still not sure where this is an issue of 'karma'?
  18. +1. I don't know PH, but from all accounts from those I know that do know him, he's a stand-up guy. A stand-up guy that's been buying and collecting mega-Ferraris for a long time and gone so far as to 'loan' his 275GTB/C (way different than your run of the mill 275; Massini has called it the "1965 GTO" and it's one-of-one) to Ferrari for various events and promotions... By all accounts, he's 'played nice and played by the rules' with Ferrari, even participating in their cash grab, er, FXX programme... One does these things with a certain understanding that these things will be reciprocated, in this case in the form of allocations of super cars. Love to hear a contrasting back story.
  19. That was my exact reaction when I found out that, to our surprise, we were having our third... Like you, I also finally got my boy Your earlier post about the 'switch' that occurs when you hold your child for the first time is spot on. It's something that cannot be properly described and must be felt to be fully understood. I'm not for or against kids either way, but that indescribable feeling makes it hard for those of us with kids to fully convey the feelings to those that don't have / want kids. I suppose it's a little like sky diving; supposedly the most incredible feeling in the world, but I'll have to take your word for it
  20. While that's true, it struck me as odd that a criminal at this level (with these resources) would hide in plain sight / live loud in Miami... That's just asking for trouble.
  21. My OP said: "Cars are also infinitely more 'useful' to society and contribute an equally outsized value to the overall economy, both in terms of the Automobile sector, and also basic productivity. It's not even close." I just want to be clear that I was claiming that, at the most basic level, the car (industry, utilization, spinoffs, etc) is more beneficial than the gun (industry, utilization, spinoffs, etc). Were you arguing against that? Do you have any stats to refute it? Because... According to Time, gun and ammo manufacturing in the US is a $6B industry. And this says that the total revenue for the big three is in the range of $350B... I'm not taking the time to look up stats on the contribution to US economic productivity based on automobile usage... You weren't honestly questioning whether personal automobile use is more beneficial to society and that use contributes more indirectly to the economy than guns and their manufacture do... Were you?
  22. The comparison with cars (or "metal killing machines") is an interesting one. But the problem is that the main purpose of cars is not to kill, as it is with firearms. According to the CDC , motor vehicle deaths and deaths from firearms are close enough to be the same... Same overall number, same rate per 100,000. And that would be extremely troubling, except for the fact that every man, woman and child has more exposure to vehicles than fireams by many (many, many) orders of magnitude... There's licensing for drivers and registration of all cars and no one bats an eye. Cars are also infinitely more 'useful' to society and contribute an equally outsized value to the overall economy, both in terms of the Automobile sector, and also basic productivity. It's not even close. Full disclosure - (as if I had to tell you) I'm not a "gun guy"; I don't own a gun and I don't care to own a gun. I've shot lots of guns at the range, shot clays, etc, but it's just not my "thing". It's kinda to how I view people that are into, say, dungeons and dragons; just not my thing... If someone likes it, cool, but I just don't get it. I'm mostly ambivalent to gun laws, but I guess because I "don't get it", I can't understand an aversion to tighter restrictions or at least a higher hurdle to owning certain types of guns... Edit - could've saved myself the trouble of typing and just quoted rmtn
  23. That's unfortunate and I hadn't heard of any such instances yet. Fortunately, those with bad intentions seem to be vastly outnumbered by the good natured ones.
  24. I shouldn't be focussing on this, but... Society is doing everything but unravelling. I haven't heard of a single account of anyone capitalizing on others misfortune throughout this entire tragedy. The selflessness and overall coming together of people and corporations, both local and afar is staggering. No-cost accommodation provided in the work camps or free Air BnBs, No cost transportation provided by airlines, private/corporate aircraft and busses Incredible generosity by everyone from the individuals filling up the trunks of their cars are (litterally) driving through hell to get to those in need to major donations of money and supplies, again from locals and even from those afar and relatively unaffected (very classy move by the St. Louis Blues to donate their 50/50 draw proceeds from their game against the Predators, even though neither team is within 1,500 miles... Just amazing.
  25. Try double that... A friend that's getting one turned down more than that from his Porsche dealer when he submitted his order.
