Even the Afghanis?? I thought they were from there too, So What they belive in?

Sorry bit out of the topic.

Hey when you are a bunch of crazy radical islamic nut jobs you don't want any neighbors either.

As far as myself I had company in town. We were all having breakfast before we set out for boating on the lake.

I turned CNBC on to see what kind on bath I was going to take that day in the market when the reports came in about the first plane hitting the tower. We then watched in horror as everything unfolded in real time. It was a terrible feeling then as it is right now. I will never forget that day 3000 Innocent people were murdered in front of all of us.

This topic reminds me of when I was a kid how people would ask this same question about the Kennedy Assassination.

On Sept 11, 2001 a friend and I had just opened our first retail store, and that day was our first official day of business. It wasn't the Grand Opening but a soft opening. Talk about the worst day to open a business. It was an audio video company and we all just sat around watching the TV displays in shock till about 1 or 2pm then we closed shop and went home to our families.

We saw the second plane hit live on TV. That was a surreal moment. I was already thinking the first strike was on purpose. The news people were saying it was a small plane and I could tell that they were way off by the size of the hole.

I was sleeping in my dorm when my roommate walked in and said a plane crashed into the tower. I laid there and it took me a couple minutes to process it so I got up and turned on the tv right when the 2nd plane hit. I sat there watching the news the rest of the day. Wright Patt AFB was scrambling jets all over the place. Tons of confusion.

Sorry bit out of the topic.

AQ is made up of Arabs who traveled to afghanistan to fight the soviets. When the soviets left, they teamed up with radical afghanis who became the taliban and waged war against moderate afghanis who became the northern alliance.

I was driving home from my first proper job at Nokia Networks and suddenly there is emergency news coming from all local and national radio stations.

I drove home and watch tv all night with my parents. I still remember like it was last week. They have been all this week and are at the moment showing related documents at tv stations here in Finland.

I was eating breakfast in the kitchen, and I had the TV turned on before the first plane hit, Fox News just went to the breaking news and I watched for as long as I could before work. When I got to work I went straight to a TV and saw the second plane hit, then I remember one of the news anchors mention Osama Bin Laden, words couldn't describe how pissed I was. All I could think after the towers fell was "well, the recruiting offices are gonna be busy for a while..."

My uncle was on the 89th floor of Tower 2 when the first plane hit, he got out in time before the second plane.

Dam, Can you get any more closer to death than that?

I assumed most people got out from the Tower 2?

I was a sophmore at Centenary College, on my way to class only an hour and fifteen minutes outside the city in Hackettstown, NJ.

I was walking up the stairs of one of the main buildings on campus, when this hysterical girl came screaming down the stairs saying, "We are under attack! NYC is getting hit by planes! This is crazy!". I remember it like it was yesterday. She said it with a ton of excitement, almost as if she was more excited about "news" like this on what would have been an otherwise dull morning, than scared or worried.

I went upstairs to class and my teacher had turned on one of the computers hooked to a projector so we could watch streaming news video. He dismissed us from class about 10 minutes later in a daze, and everyone was running all over campus (being in Northern NJ, there were ALOT of my classmates that had family & friends who worked in or were in the city that morning). I remember hugging my ex-GF in the middle of campus (the "Quad" as it was called), who was crying histerically because her Uncle had worked in the trade centers about once or twice a week, and none of her family could get a hold of him. It was absolute pandomonium. I dont know what it was like for the rest of the country that day, but Northern and Central NJ had NO cell phone service for about 4-5 hours. I was trying to call my Father who lived in another town and couldnt get through until well after lunch.

The rest of the day was surreal. I remember watching the news almost all day at home with my Mom and sister, and wondering if it was all some sort of horrific dream.

Years later, I still get pissed off just thinking about it..

I will never forget that day. I was working for an investment bank on the 26th floor of my building on 51st Street & 6th Ave in New York. At around 8:20 I heard a loud noise that I thought was agarbage truck loading dumpsters. Shortly after that word started circulating around the office that a small plane had hit the Trade Center. People started going into the conference room to see the TV.

As the second plane was going into the WTC we KNEW something was wrong. I watched the news constantly over the next few weeks and have not been able to get over the shock & horror of that day. Even now I am reluctant to watch the ceremonies on TV. It just brings up some bad memories as I had colleagues that lost their lives that day.

May God bless the souls of those lost that day!!!!

It's still very annoying and angering....

For the resident NYers here, it was a violation of our city along with seeing so much death.

After the years have gone by, another annoyance has surfaced.....the rebuild process which is taking forever....

While we should never forget and always be cognizant of what has happened, I don't think we'll ever get any semblance of resolution until the rebuild is 100% complete.

If Silverstein is indeed holding out for tax credits or what not, NYS or the federal government should just take care of that and get this thing moving.

As a side note, I'm looking forward to learning about what is probably going to be the most sophisticated engineering of any building in the world.

I thought they were just going to have the two holes in the ground. Which is why I'm upset about taking 9 years to do.

Agreed on the annoyance factor of the sloooooow-ass rebuild. Not only that, but I'm truly pissed off by the underwhelming design they came up with as a replacement for the WTC (i.e. what will be the new 1 WTC). Seriously? Is that the BEST anyone could come up with? There's all this *amazing* (not to mention huge in size) architecture going up in Shanghai, Dubai, Hong Kong, etc., and they came up with this lame-ass -- and much to SMALL -- plain-looking tower that looks like it was designed by committee, then further watered down by three more committees??

THAT'S insulting. This should have been the biggest, baddest, most beautiful, most GRAND skyscraper on the face of the planet.

I was there in NYC...my first year in dental school, too. What a way to start off. The school shut down for a couple of days. One of our professor was a forensics specialist & was down there id bodies via teeth analysis. So sad.

LOL. :icon_thumleft:

In all seriousness, I would have been (and still would be) 100% content with the exact same look from the original towers and maybe even taller to reclaim tallest building in the US status.

I think the problem is, the general consensus is that it would be very difficult to find renters for those top floors.

If I worked anywhere above an 18th floor or so I'd bring my own parachute to work.

Haha...I believe you. It's not the most ideal BASE jump but quite doable. :)

Well, do you think it will be feasible for terrorists to crash jets into skyscrapers ever again in the US? I can't imagine in a post 9/11 world a terrorist organization would be able to pull it off again, especially in New York. Assuming no conspiracy theories are in play of course, we're tighter on all fronts.

Never say never of course, but at the same time nobody ever stayed inside their homes because they were afraid of being struck by lightning or hit by a car, or die in a non terrorist related plane crash...

Im honestly surprised more people in highrise offices dont do this. I know its a bit crazy, but shit, why not? 1 in a million chance but its still a chance...

There were talks several years ago in the fire protection/life safety journals about building futuristic type evacuation systems outside of stairs and elevators like a long funnel system or something....

Would be interesting to see where that leads. At some point this might be the norm and then you'll have no fear of being in a high rise ever again.

Unless the plane that hits it takes out the high tech evacuation system (which might as well be called an "ELEVATOR")...

I dont think its crazy at all... If you work in a high rise, ANY NUMBER of emergencies can prevent you from getting down by conventional means. I remember when I used to work in one.... We would do evacuation drills about once every 6 months or so.... And I remember hiking down those fcuking stairs behind the octogenarian receptionist taking once step at a time and thinking "wed all be dead by now." And that was like 8 floors.

MOST people have an overwhelming fear of heights..... Looking DOWN from a 40 story building is enough to make most people dizzy.... JUMPING FROM THE 110th floor is simply out of the question..... And yet... On September 11, DOZENS of people made the choice to JUMP rather than be burned alive. They couldnt get out of their offices... Let alone get to the stairs or elevators (Those escape routes were cut off as well, but its unlikely they could have known that)... And they overcame the fear of falling (which many people who decide to go skydiving or basejumping CANT get over, even though they know theyre going to survive the experience- they refuse to get out of the plane or jump off the bridge after paying LOTS of money to do it... I would have thought most people would have rather burned to death than jump.)

Had they jumped with a parachute many (maybe most of them) would have been injured or even killed.... But its better odds than jumping without one.

I believe this to be an incredibly naive statement, and this is coming from someone who has flown 11 times in the past 8 weeks.

The ONLY thing that has really changed since 911 is the attitude of passengers. And even that has begun to wane.

Pre 911 the crew and passengers would just "cooperate" with a hijacker. They knew it was ther best chance for survival.

That obviously changed somewhere around 10 am on Tuesday september 11. Then it became obvious the new rule was fight, or die anyways while killing thousands of others. .

In the years right after 911 if a guy jumped up mid flight and acted the least bit suspicious, every man around him would jump his sorry ass and put a fcuking hurt on him. Which makes hijacking a plane pretty hard.

I'm not sure that's still the rule. Political correctness is slowly creeping back into our mindset.
