New Years resolutions

'Tis the time of the year to think about how one should grow to become a better himself. I am sticking to my "learn at least 2 new things" per year rule.

Been tip toeing around programming for years now, decided to pick up a Head First Java book today and finally check it out.

What are you doing for resolutions/plans/new skills this year to grow yourself?

Moving to Spain

Learning Spanish

Getting in shape before pool party season.

Spend at least an hour a day learning something new.

The main thing is getting back into shape. I've put on 25lbs since i quit smoking 2 years ago and want to get rid of them.

My resolution was to start smoking.

I have never smoked before and thought it's about time I give it a try.

I have also decided to give up fruits and vegetables.

PS: If someone wants to pick me in the Ghoul Pool, you better do it soon.

Travel more. I never go anywhere unless it's for work. Haven't taken a real vacation in 4 years..

Meet new and interesting people around the world/expand network of friends.

Make more money

Make a LOT more money

Stay sharp, and don't make any mistakes (at work).

Expand operations.

Maintain current level of physical condition all year. (THAT is gonna be a challenge, as much as a lose weight resolution).

Did I mention make more money?

I am doing close to the same thing.

My Wife, Daughter and I are moving to Italy. We Leave on the 14th.

I will be learning Italian, I will be consulting at an Italian company, so I really don't have a choice, but it has always been something I wanted to learn

I will be starting school again, I am straying from my original path of engineering( I already have my A.S. in Electrical Enginnering) to pursue my MBA in International Business

I'd like to get back to working out. With the much relaxed work schedule that Italians seem to have, I may be in a position to start running in the mornings before work.

2011 seems like it will be a great year.

New Years resolutions are for procrastinators..why wait for a certain day in the year to correct something you could fix or work on anytime? :eusa_think:

On a related note...ive been getting a good laugh out of the EXCESS of gym membership and weight loss commercials that have been blasting my TV for the last few days.. My brother who is heavy into lifting says he hates the gym for the next 3 months because thats about how long it takes for all of the new years resoluters to die off.

yes, there is a bit of truth to this, but people need a way to end something and start something. And then, in starting the new year, to commit to doing whatever they feel is important to them.

Psychologically, we reboot and move forward.

1) bulkup and also lose some fat too

2) get a second job

3) start learning about finance (dunno where to start actually, can anyone give me a good starting point?)

4) been with a girl for about a month so id like to keep that going

5) learn some stuff about overclocking CPUs, RAM and videocards and jack my computer up a bit

For me it just happened that all of this is starting for me right now. Otherwise, I am right there with you on not making "resolutions" per se.

Italy has been on the table for the last 6 months, and going back to school, I decide to do it about 3 months ago. I really want to make myself an asset instead of just an "employee". I really want to work for myself at some point. But with a family to think about and not just myself, weighing risk vs reward, I tend to lean on the side of caution. If I was single and didn't have the responsibility of keep my family housed and fed, I would take more risk.

BE ON TIME

Didn't know you are a Jewban. I guess its better than being a Jewlumbian as they are ALWAYS Late :lol2:

Being on time is something i am VERY good at, so I dont fall into the typical Cuban mold of being late.

Work more, buy less cars, bench 300 pounds, and stop screwing around on car forums as much :)

LOL...you just reminded me of something funny.

When I was in college I remember joking around once with the guys asking a silly question rather seriously just to mess with them:

"Would you rather make $300k a year or bench 300 lbs"....

Of course they'd all laugh at benching 300, naturally...

So seeing you of all people mention this was like an inside joke. :)

Although I'm pretty sure you wouldn't give it all up to bench 300. :lol2:

Where are you now with the bench?
