Smart ways to earn extra money in the mean time?

Hey, guys! I was hoping to get some advice for extra ways to earn money for my project car. I'm still trying to save up for a basket case Countach, and I'm only putting in a minimal percentage of my income into my car savings account. I'm working as hard as I can now in order to be able to afford one before they're unobtainium, (if not already). Because I'm married and saving the majority of my funds for a house, etc. I've been using other means to work towards a basket case car. I have some money saved up for this car, but am working to have a more realistic amount. I'll probably get made fun of in the mean time here is what I have been working on:

1.) Real Estate - I'm taking my exam to soon be an agent in the state of Hawaii. I've been studying for a while. (MAIN GOAL)

2.) Patenting/selling an invention -Still in progress (MAIN GOAL)

3.) Uber Driver - Yep, sure did sign up to be one, and work on my week days off

4.) Resetting/reading BMW Codes in the area -Dealers here charge at least $100, so there's money to be made

5.) Website/youtube channel -I'm currently working on a "smartly written" Automobile/Satire website & Youtube with funny/controversial channel to hopefully make money off of the adds.

6.) Designing Subaru Parts - I'm currently working with a friend to design Subaru accessories and start an online store. I'm not a Subaru fan, but there is money to be made.

I know my other objectives won't make me a lot of money, but it is what I have going for me right now to help me obtain my goal. Honestly I'm hoping real-estate and my patent will help me reach closest to my goal. If anyone had any other ideas for me, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm honestly open to anything.

Thanks!

Ian

Truthfully, you're way too spread out. If you're really following through on the patent idea we discussed, that is going to need 150% of your effort. If you can't give that your full attention then don't even both with it. You're going to invest thousands of dollars on this but use your time to make $15/hr driving people around? fcuk that, invest all your time to getting that idea off the ground.

Read the Fastlane to Millions book by our own MJ on this forum.

Is this actually a good book to read, or just you joking, lol. I only ask because I've read a few threads making fun of some of these books. Not sure who MJ is? Thanks!

Real estate! If you're creative you can purchase some small income properties at little to no cost to you. something like a small 4plex can bring you an extra $500 a month after all of your expenses. Start with one and grow it!

I don't know how Hawaii is though, here in Dallas it's a no brainer

The market here is incredible, and shows no signs of diminishing! Buying properties for me is about twice as hard to achieve as my Lamborghini is, right now. :/

Alright I will be the one to say it. I think you have your spending priorities wrong. We've discussed your gun collection before and your M5. If you truly are trying to save money towards the future and towards a house I am not driving an M5 at 14MPG premium everywhere or buying/converting HK rifles for my personal collection.

IMO you need to have your financial house in order first and that means owning home and building equity rather than throwing it away on rent. That means driving a car that is an appliance to get me from point A to point B as cheaply/reliably/safely as possible. That means cutting out expensive hobbies and purchases until such time that I have earned a reward.

Please don't be offended by this. I think your hustle is great and I am in the same boat as you wondering what I can do/invest in to start growing my money and having my money work harder for me. My wife and I saved first and bought a house. I still drive a crappy civic to work because it keeps the wife/kids in a nice SUV and a fun car in the garage for me on weekends. The guns came after the house and the 401ks and IRAs and the 509 plans were started and I have only purchased items I can turn around and sell for the same price I paid if not more down the road.

In my opinion you need a stable base before you start to go outside of your comfort zone.

1.) Real Estate - I'm taking my exam to soon be an agent in the state of Hawaii. I've been studying for a while. (MAIN GOAL)

Plenty of money to be made there but I don't think anyone would call it easy money. You can make a ton doing insurance too...just ask Mac-N-It but you have to work your ass off.

2.) Patenting/selling an invention -Still in progress (MAIN GOAL)

If you have an invention or a line on an invention I would be working on this 10000% and ignoring the other stuff.

3.) Uber Driver - Yep, sure did sign up to be one, and work on my week days off

I am going to be a bartender before I am an Uber driver...especially when my DD is an M5.

4.) Resetting/reading BMW Codes in the area -Dealers here charge at least $100, so there's money to be made

Heck if you are invested in the community and can make a few bucks doing this go for it.

5.) Website/youtube channel -I'm currently working on a "smartly written" Automobile/Satire website & Youtube with funny/controversial channel to hopefully make money off of the adds.

To make ANY money you need to have a heck of a good channel and a huge following. Just as DoctaM3 or Rob F. This does not happen quickly at all.

6.) Designing Subaru Parts - I'm currently working with a friend to design Subaru accessories and start an online store. I'm not a Subaru fan, but there is money to be made.

Heck if you can do it go for it.

I must sadly admit that I've read neither this or the fastlane, though I've been a member of the community for a while. I ordered them both today because I've been meaning to.

Hannibal has some good points there. Sell the M5 ($35k?) and pick up a 2012+ Hyundai Elantra or Accent, those are $8-10k all day long, totally decent little cars that will run for longer than you care to own it. And I almost guarantee if you owned that car for 10 years and 140k miles you would have a hard time spending $1k on all the maintenance including tires.

Hey, we just found you 50% of your house down payment. :icon_thumleft:

Yep that's a valid point. I gave up most my Porsche cars and sold off all but one of my motorcycles so that I could do my house and make room for my Lambo to restore. It sucks sometimes to make those sacrifices, but when you see where your money goes, sometimes it's an easy decision to make.

Yup, he is just looking to start making some extra money not getting rich quick.

Agree 100% on selling the M5 and grabbing a house first. I would love to be driving around in something nicer but I bought my little Fiat Abarth cheap and have money for my house and other investments.
