Aventador SV Roadster Confirmed

Lamborghini is to build a roadster version of the Aventador Superveloce (SV), the fastest and most extreme version of its Aventador hypercar yet.

The new model’s production was confirmed to The Telegraph during an interview with Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of the company, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

500 examples of the Aventador SV Roadster will be revealed, and all will share their mechanical specification with the coupé version.

So all will get a 740bhp version of Lamborghini’s famous 6.5-litre V12 engine, enough to propel them to a top speed in excess of 217mph, hitting 62mph in a shade under three seconds along the way.

Also shared with the coupé will be the lighter, more aerodynamically efficient bodywork, carbon ceramic brakes with six-pot calipers, and a variable-ratio steering system.

No pictures are yet available of the new car, but Lamborghini will unveil the new model to the world at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, with orders scheduled to start shortly thereafter.

In his interview, Winkelmann also reaffirmed that Lamborghini was committed to the SUV sector, though he didn’t rule out the possibility of another four-door model, possibly in the form of a saloon, at a later date.

“If I have to put a pound on one segment, then I would do it on the SUV,” he said. “This is the segment of the future. People want to sit higher, and it’s also the sector where you have much more opportunities without getting into too tight a corner in terms of the power-to-weight ratio.”

Great renders by LamboCARS.

Some of the renders don't show the wing (yellow and orange do). I was a guest in the Lamborghini hospitality enclosure at Goodwood at the weekend where Winkelmann made the announcement. Although I didn't get to speak with him I had a good hour chatting with the engineer that headed up the R & D for the car. I learned a lot. He was at the ring when it broke 7. He told me they only had 15 minutes at the ring and that the car was customer spec without any tweeks. The tyres were no different to those that will be fitted to mine. I asked if the roadster would be down on performance c/w the coupe. He was almost offended by my question and gave me a resounding no. This is one impressive car.

Agreed! That looks so sinister! White stitching would look awesome on the interior as well.

I rather like white stitching too ... but perhaps the 'upside down Y inset' is too white this way:

Thank you for the renders, LamboCARS. I've ordered an SV Roadster (it's my first Lamborghini) and have been chewing over the question of colors. These pictures make the choice both easier -- and harder, because the car looks good in quite a few colors.
