Transmission issue

Hey guys, just wanted to share my sad story. Mods: I'm unsure of which section this should be in, please move to your liking.

Just picked up a Gallardo Spyder 10 days ago, recently serviced within 1000km. I was so excited as it was a rare 3 pedal car, and all up to date on servicing. Included is a copy of the bill (fluids, front shocks, misc) 12k! I've owned it for 250km and it broke down near the grocery store! How embarrassing!

I took off normally in 1st gear, and heard a nice clunk at 3500rpm so coasted to a stop. Car was NOT launched, traction control was on. Tried pushing the car in neutral and she would move, but made rattling noises going forwards or backwards. Noises came from the transmission/diff. Tried engaging the clutch and it would seem to grab then not go anywhere. I promptly shut the car down and towed it back to a hoist. I did a visual inspection and there are zero leaks. My mechanic checked the driveshaft/suspension and all was well. Car starts fine and hydraulic front works. So now it is worse case scenario...drivetrain!

Car was driving perfectly with no clutch slip at all, what do you guys think the issue could be?

My initial thoughts are not having enough transmission fluid when it was in for service, I'm having the car transported back to Lambo of Calgary to diagnose the issue. Would something like this be covered if it was their mistake? They are of course saying it couldn't be them.

I will keep everyone updated with the full diagnosis. I've included pictures of when I picked her up, the service bill and a sad picture on the hoist. I'm so choked, I've had so many manual cars and never an issue!

Thanks for listening guys.

If the car left the dealer 10 days ago, and you only drove it 250 kms and they just did a service job on it.. they should definately fix this for you. Anything else would be poor taste and bad customer service. They should have catched this before the car went out from their shop. Unless this is something no one could know about. But I would say they still should fix it, even if they couldn't know about the problem because it couldn't be diagnosed. A car that fresh from a sale, should be taken care off by them.

Ask yourself, what would Roy do? :) Exactly. Expect no less from anyone else. He would take care of this, no questions asked. And so should they.

Congrats :D

Exotic cars will always have problems. How the dealership handles the problems is the real issue. Give them a chance to make things right. If they refuse that is a different story.

Yes, absolutely I am sending the car down for them to check it out.

It's not a thread to bash them, more of a vent. I hope they take care of me!

I purchased it privately, I didn't ppi as it literally was in lambo within 1000km. It was completely checked over at that time. Lessons! I would still think if car is within a small time frame it's warranty? I know that complicates it slightly but doesn't change that it was serviced there.

Car has aftermarket wheels, they are specced proper so no issues with differential etc.

Thanks guys I'm definitely sad about it. I've heard tons of great things about Roy but haven't gotten a chance to buy from him yet!

Not really following your train of thought on warranty??

What am I missing? The car is a 2006, you purchased from a private individual, with no PPI...

My car was just at the dealer yesterday for a full service, if something were to break on it tomorrow, I doubt they would be responsible in any way.

Not trying to be negative with you, just trying to understand your situation completely.

As you know, the factory and dealerships advise owners against placing aftermarket wheels.

As you also know, if the vehicle was "checked over" at Lambo Calgary recently you should have the PPI paperwork. Where is it?

You sound like a handful. Purchase a decade old car privately with non-OEM wheels, get no PPI, and expect the dealership that replaced fluids and fliters to warranty the car lol. And before they have a chance to respond you are already posting to the net?

C'mon man.

Your thread comes of as bashing Lamborghini Calgary when they didn't even sell you the car. You should have paid them to inspect the car prior to purchase to uncover any issues. I think the only way you are not paying out of pocket for this is if the seller knew about the issue or wants to compensate you, but I doubt that's the case as used cars are typically sold as is.

I posted it as I was pretty upset. I don't mean to bash them, otherwise I wouldn't be sending the car to them. I've bought from them before and they were great. I'm hoping for similar treatment.

I'm sending it to them shortly to get it diagnosed. I just want it dealt with professionally. What if the fluids weren't changed properly?

I'll change the thread title. If you feel it's unjustified then please delete thread. I'll post an update when I hear the final results.

Edit: I can't seem to change the title. Sorry guys not exactly in the right frame of mind. Thanks for trying to understand.

What if the fluids weren't changed properly?

What if... What if... What if.

Get a diagnosis and report back. It's pretty difficult to F-up a fluid change on a manual car, short of forgetting to refill the fluid.

I'm sure it's frustrating, but chill out until you get more information. And I would be kissing the dealers ass hoping they give you a hand with this. With your thread title I wouldn't be surprised if they told you to hit the bricks.

I'm booking transport right away and car will be there this week. Hopefully have an update for you guys by next week. I've pmed a mod to change thread title.

Yeah I'm just so frustrated. Usually an addition to the stable is exciting, this sure isn't!

Thanks guys.

Your thread title is misleading.

You bought an almost-10-year-old car with relatively high mileage (for this genre of cars) with after market parts and without a thorough PPI; took it to the Lambo dealership for service, the car then developed separate issues and you turn the heat on the dealership? Something isn't proper here. This is the newest Lambo dealership in Canada if not the world. One would imagine that they would do as great a job as they can manage to secure their footing in that area. And the owner/team aren't rookies as far as handling Lambos are concerned. Your title is not doing justice to the dealership. It should be changed to "Issues with my V.I. Gallardo Spyder" instead.

On another note, congrats with your purchase. Hope you would get it all sorted out soon.

I had the same thing happen to me in a ranger rover once, ended up being the front differential. If the dealer forgot to put fluid back in then I doubt the car would have made it as far as it did.

I have PMed a mod to have thread title changed to Transmission issue.

I've dealt with the team on a few occasions at Vancouver and they were fantastic. When the vehicle was in for service it was checked over, had all the fluids changed and shocks. That was what they could find.

I'm mainly just frustrated and wanted to vent. Thanks for understanding guys. No point in speculating until they receive the vehicle. Transport is booked today.

Will keep everyone posted. I also really hope to get it sorted soon. I am a lambo guy through and through and love the brand.

I am dissapointed. The thread led us to believe that car was from said dealership.

I agree with the others, that you should kiss their ass and hope they'll help you. Be VERY happy for any discount they give you, if any at all. Thread title here definately didn't help you in that department. Glad it's changed, as it was completely unfair to them.

Next time, do a ppi when buying from a private party.

I think Item A on the invoice says it all... " Checked for service due ... NO RECORDS OF PREVIOUS SERVICES RECORDED".

That seems like a big red flag IMO. I'm guessing the previous owner did all the services himself, if any.

Update:

Had the vehicle towed to Calgary. Jarrod from Lambo service called to update me that the vehicle arrived yesterday, and would be looked at next day. That's great service, as I know there is appointments ahead of me. He's been a very nice person to deal with so far and is very straight forward. The sales dept has always been great from lambo vancouver so I hope service is the same. As far as maintenance, the gear oil has always been changed every year, as well all fluids.

Vehicle was checked today, looks like the rear differential is done for. There are metal fragments in the fluid. Really sucks! Service says they have NEVER seen this happen before. They called Lambo Vancouver and this has never happened before there. Taking it apart it, appears there is no wear! No signs that anything was going to break, everything looked mint. Service says it makes no sense and don't know why this happened. Generally if a diff goes, there is massive whine, smells, and you WOULD know. There has not been a single noise/smell. Car was not driven hard at all since servicing, driven back from Calgary (300km), to golfing, then sold to me. From what I know these transmissions are pretty bulletproof unless you go stage 3+ TT. Aftermarket wheels would not affect the rear diff, and if so there would be wear and signs.

At this point I would like service to investigate further on Monday. I would like to know what fluid was used, as it may be the wrong type (3 pedal car). I can't think of any reasons why it would go, especially driving like a grandpa! Does anyone have any ideas?

I can say that they have been fantastic to deal with so far, I just want my car back on the road! Very sad and frustrating to have this happen so soon.

And yes, would love to have a UGR build someday! I've driven a few heffner cars and cannot imagine how fun a built UGR car would be. Stage 3 with race heads + convertible sounds amazing!!
