I might missunderstand the whole carbon doors thing you guys talk about. If so I am sorry for wasting your time! But look at this picture the inside of the door is clearly covered up with a sort of fabric. But look closely and you can see parts of whats under it. A black glossy material. Carbon? FOR SURE!

^Not wasting time at all and thank you for adding your input to the issue.

The issue is that very piece covered by the fabric material. The LP670-4SV has that piece in a single large piece of CF as did the LP750-4SV. The Gallardo Superleggera and the LP570-4 Superleggera and its derivatives are like that too. But with the new DOT regs, that's no longer possible as proven by the Huracan Performante. So what will happen to the SV-J? Alcantara like the HP? I do hope you are correct on the CF being hidden by the fabric but I am not optimistic about it. The pic isn't high-def enough to show what that gloss black piece is made of and judging from the Huracan (Performante or not), gloss black plastic is more than a possibility. Whatever it is, let's hope that it won't be too rudimentary looking.

The SV J wonít be a huge departure in terms of interior from the SV except the infotainment but I expect the architecture to stay the same, I think carbon door panels will be back, as for the Performante, I think the reason why we didnít get them is because they didnít want to combine the carbon weave with the composite, if they wouldíve used the composite for the door cards I wouldíve been out LOL.

Haha : Velvet, velour, alcantara etc .. you know I can't stand touching that cheap material.

That is why I make sure the factory removes it and puts either leather, 'carbon skin' or CF and they are kind enough to do it -for a price lol. Their Ad Personam director is great!

They become grubby fairly quickly but other than that they are ok.

If I have to choose, I prefer suede to alcantara any time - at least it is natural not artificial. It is all subjective.

For steering wheels, I find the carbon steering wheel with perforated leather handles to be the best. It feels much better than alcantara.
A good place to supply it is Singapore's Robson design.

The whole idea behind alcantara was to create something that allowed race car drivers to be comfortable without slipping around while driving. It had to be fire retardant, and lighter than other materials. Leather was too slippery and heavy, suede had too much upkeep and didn't wear well. Those that have done hot laps in slippery seats know it's dangerous, 5 point harnesses notwithstanding.

Somehow, much like carbon fibre, it's become a fashion accessory. Originally though alcantara was purpose designed.

How do I know? Because my name is Allan Cantara.

I want to be ensconced in velvet always... what happened in my life that I have waited so long for a velvet car .. I mean of course there is the baby oil and the glitter of the girls that seem to always be in and on the car ... that could be problematic.. but screw it.. SOLD! I want the velvet ... I need the velvet. I WANT ME SOME VELVET!!! Can we go straight to end and deliver it with the wrap on and maybe 60k miles on it... so I don't have to break it in all over the world.

suede is just as bad, my C63 steering wheel is part suede and part leather after 40k km the suede parts look like they were coated with some sort of tar and the leather doesn't look that flash either.

Good informative video on alcantara!
They sell it to us for a premium when in fact it is much cheaper than leather: 10-15% the cost of leather, what a rip off!
