We were raised on television to believe that we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, rock stars, but we won't, and were slowly learning this fact, and we are very pissed off." yellomurci Report post Posted October 6, 2011 Ok some of them are a little far-fetched, but others such as free education, free health care have been implemented in other places and work very well. On top of that, other implications such as bringing all of the troops home from around the world and increased regulation on the financial institutions' activities, would benefit everyone and reduce the risk that people are facing. On one side I understand where they are coming from; opportunities aren't equal as they could be (realistically). But on the other hand I feel that (as you pointed out) their demands are either unrealistic or they just don't know what they want specifically, they just know things aren't how they should be. Its just too easy to call them out as homeless or whatever. It doesn't solve anything. If education and health care were really FREE you would have no education and no health care, by free they mean others pay for it. Rawr Report post Posted October 6, 2011 Nima the main thing to understand is that we don't have enough money in this country for everyone to be well off. That's why one must work hard to get it for himself. Or choose to give up: get bribed off with a $600 deposited on your card every month and medicate yourself with whatever you can get to prevent rage and violence. lambornima Report post Posted October 7, 2011 Well the protests only seem to have gotten bigger not smaller over the last while, across a lot of cities. I wonder how this will pan out.

lambornima Report post Posted October 7, 2011 FYI. When you count down and aggressively rush police barricade this is NO longer a peaceful assembly. You are now a RIOTER and I hope the paint on the end of their night sticks rub off on hippy heads and the pepper spray drains to the bottom of the cans on each and everyone of these dumb fucks faces. Robster Craws Report post Posted October 7, 2011 Keep dreaming Nima. These guys are trying to incite acts of violence on purpose to get the medias attention through crying about police brutality. Would you like to give me another definition of what a group of people counting down together and charging a police barrier should be called? Everyone in here has been real patient holding your hand and guiding you through this whole ordeal.
Kerplop Report post Posted October 7, 2011 Apparently some of my graduating class has decided they are cool and are going to protest. I've seen facebook posts of this all week. Then people started posting to my wall .. "JOIN US!" and it was pretty easy to figure out who to clear off my facebook. Sometimes it's good to go through my "friends list"... Today on the radio I heard about how protestetards were going to start in portland and then about noon I started seeing that these protests were going to be HERE in my town. Well.. I see from some old riding buddies of mine that some protests were outside their work place on their facebook. It was one of those posts where you could tell they were just annoyed. About 15 minutes later they updated that SWAT came to clear it out. So they retreated to the park to give speeches... but the only people in that park are usually hoodlum kids and the wandering hippies. Our "Wall street" was safe again. I heard they had stopped traffic in portland as well (and were also promptly arrested/escorted away/shutdown)... By the way Rob that picture you posted was great lol. "Join us afterwards at starbucks" So glad I came on here and saw this. Was starting to go "Am I insane? Am I the only one who thinks this whole thing is stupid?... wait... I bet someone on LP said something. OH THEY DID. *sigh of relief*... I'm not /that/ crazy."

Actually only Roman has had any real input in this thread while the rest has been nothing more than name calling. From what we can see, the label of hippy or lazy could only really be applied at the beginning, but not anymore. What I want to know is just how involved the majority of Americans will become, and how much they feel the protesters represent them. What I (and am sure you guys are too) are wanting to see is to what degree the message of the protests go from general to specific in nature. Another definition for the rushing group? I'm not sure, but are the only options peaceful and riot and why would it be so black and white? Lets not be in any doubt that a lot of whats happened has been cases of police brutality (much like we saw here in Toronto during the G20 summit actually), and none of it was warranted. Lets also not ignore the recognition of the NYPD by the protesters as mostly right and just. If the mobs were truly violent then why aren't there reports of police being injured? As for your claim that they should just break their heads in, and pepper spray them, I think its outright disgraceful. Its their right to be able to protests and have free speech. This isn't Iran or Egypt or some other god forsaken place.

Kelly: Protesters To Be ‘Met With Force’ If They Target Officers From article: ................................................................................ “What they did is they counted. They actually had a countdown — 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 — they grouped together, they joined arms and they charged the police. They attacked the police. They wanted to get into Wall Street, they wanted to occupy Wall Street,” Kelly told reporters. [Police Commissioner Ray Kelly] “These people wanted to have confrontation with the police for whatever reason. Somehow, I guess it works to their purposes,” he added. He also promised such protesters would be “met with force when they do that,“ which he called ”just common sense.” ................................................................................ I concur with Rob, they can protest all you want, but when they incite the police to react so that they can push a slanted view of police brutality, they got what they deserved. I can only hope more eyes can distinguish between what really happens and what these protesters want them to see. RomanDad has always pointed out extensive and solid information and I personally always appreciate that. I went off the handle a bit but I can't be silent about this. Research the people and organizations behind it - these protesters have become their useful idiots - and that's the best way I can put it. Start research with these: Frances Fox Piven, Steven Lerner, SEIU, Working Families Party, Democratic Socialists of America, AFL-CIO... search those + Occupy Wall Street. Just trying to help you guys start somewhere if you want more info.

Chimay52 Report post Posted October 8, 2011 If education and health care were really FREE you would have no education and no health care, by free they mean others pay for it. Agreed! I live in a far away land of fairy tales and sugar plums and all that stuff. We get "Free!!!!!!" health care. However, the percentage we pay in taxes is extremely high and the health care comes with limitations. We can get around that by paying and knowing people in the right place, but if you want 'free', you get the limitations. I'm okay with paying extra to get better care, the problem is, my tax rate and what I pay daily in taxes doesn't take that into consideration. I had an MRI on my shoulder 4 years ago when I separated it. My MRI was on Christmas Day at 10am, 3 months after I separated my shoulder. That was the first time they could get me in. Sorry kids, Santa has to take off his Santa suit now and go get an MRI. It was an awkward Christmas morning at the Chimay household.
