QUOTE (Assman @ Jul 21 2012, 03:01 PM)

Yes, completely inappropriate, but I have strong feelings about how stupid you have to be to bring small children to a movie theater, for an adult movie, on crowded opening night, at midnight. Come on. fcuking wait 2 weeks and go Tuesday afternoon.

Blackbull....I'm no weapons expert, but in the scenario hitting feet would have been a 1:100000 shot. Centermass, stoppIng power are what you look for. You don't try to hit a small thing like a foot or head. Unless you have a sniper scope in a favorable position you ain't hitting shit. You go for the chest, take out the wind, get the knockdown.

Doesn't matter if he's wearing a vest, even a 9mm will hurt enough to slow him down if he's hit in the chest. So I agree, shoot at the fat part, fcuk the legs.

I edited my post...originally thought since he was wearing full tactical that a shot had to be delivered to an unprotected area, but in hindsight both of you gents make good points.

Assman..agree 100% on the idiocy of bringing an infant to any theater at any time of the day; find a sitter or stay home!!!

you guys see this?

A man claiming to be James Holmes created a profile on a popular sex website just days before "The Dark Knight Rises" massacre ... in which he described his penis as "short/average" ... and law enforcement sources tell TMZ investigators are now looking at the site to determine its authenticity.

"Holmes" created the profile on AdultFriendFinder.com July 5 -- and included a picture of himself with reddish, orange hair ... just as officials in Aurora, CO said he looked when he was apprehended Friday morning.

"Holmes" -- who used the screen name classicjimbo -- included a cryptic message on the top of the profile which reads, "Will you visit me in prison?"

In his profile, "Holmes" says he's 6'0" and single ... with an athletic body. Note -- the FBI says Holmes is 6'3".

"Holmes" describes himself as a "light/social drinker" ... but in the section where he's asked if he smokes or does drugs, he answered, "I'd prefer not to say."

^^ What an irony considering Holmes is the name of one of porn's most endowed male stars!! John Holmes won't need to worry about the length of his penis where he's going....he will be receiving not giving!!! :bananahump:

Sad, unfortunate event. And +1 about the "armchair quarterbacking" comments. I don't really want to go into gritty details at the moment- but just want to say that I agree with everyone who says that a person in the crowd would have had a small chance of really stopping this guy.

This event, like every tragedy, gets instantly politicized... The pro-gun lobby lobs "pro-ccw" crap out there - by saying that if everyone carried no violence would ever happen... And the anti-gun lobby goes "let's ban EVERYTHING." Neither one is true. But that's what we do best in this country - go to extremes.

True but I will say an armed society is a polite society for the most part. In regards to this case I am not sure it would matter as Holmes is obviously mentally unstable and was well prepared for people to shoot at him. In normal circumstances and possibly in this case people are less likely to do stupid shit when they know there might be people there who are equipped to fight back. Either way I think it is too soon for either side to use this tragedy as a platform or example to support their beliefs.

King, I originally thought a common CC pistol would provide enough power to stun and prevent Holmes from continuing the attack, however as RD stated, he had very good bullet proof protection and was running off of adrenaline so he would likely not even slow down.

That was the initial report (which is ALWAYS wrong).... Now it sounds like he just had a Molle type LBV.... And it wasnt "bullet proof". http://fox2now.com/2012/07/21/colorado-sho...ar-in-st-louis/

The family of Cowden, another Aurora resident, didn't want to speak to the press Saturday afternoon.

After graduating from high school in Reno, Nev., victim Jonathan Blunk, 26, of Aurora, Colo., served in the Navy between 2004 and 2009 and most recently worked at a hardware store, according to close friend James Gill of Brighton, Colo.

Blunk had plans to re-enlist with a goal of becoming a Navy SEAL, said Gill, who lived with Blunk several years in the Navy and later in Aurora.

Gill described his friend as an avid outdoorsman and gun rights advocate.

"Pretty much every weapon the guy in the theater used he owned," Gill said. "If you asked if he was still alive, he would have said his only regret is he didn't have his sidearm with him and he couldn't do anything to stop him."

How many people saying CCW guns in there and what people should do if they were there etc.

Read this

On being scheduled to be on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11:

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

If you thought that comment from Mark Wahlberg was exceedingly douchey and deeply embarrassingly disrespectful read back some of your comments in this thread. They are on par.

The average person is dumb. One of the victims that died was 6 years old. Given that, AND one of the injured was 3 months old, that tells me that more than one person in this world thinks it's a great idea to take very young children to midnight screenings of violent movies.

That said nobody deserves to die while going to a show. Lethal injection is waaay too humane for this guy.

Hes not that bright after all

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationn...0,2746583.story

But a graduate student who worked with Holmes at the Salk Institute’s Computational Neurobiology Laboratory had a far different view, recalling him as a “mediocre” student who was enormously stubborn.

“I saw a shy, pretty socially inept person,” said John Jacobson, now a PhD candidate at UC San Diego in philosophy and cognitive sciences. “I didn’t see any behavior that would be indicative of violence then or in the future.”

But “he should not have gotten into the summer program,” Jacobson said. “His grades were mediocre. I’ve heard him described as brilliant. This is extremely inaccurate.”

Holmes was, however, extremely receptive to compliments, which was “how I got him to do the little that he did,” Jacobson said.

For two weeks, Jacobson said, “he was absolutely stubborn. I was at a loss to how to get him to program in an object-oriented way. He just refused. Finally, I said, ‘Do it any way you can.’”

Jacobson said he had minimal contact with Holmes for the next six weeks, daily dropping by in the morning to see if the intern was at least at work, and then returning to his own research.

“I basically fired him,” Jacobson said.

Jacobson said the students the Institute recruits as interns now could finish such a project in less than a week. “He never completed the project. What he gave me was a complete mess,” Jacobson said.

Jacobson said he did try to bring Holmes out of his shell that summer. At one point, he said, he took Holmes to another floor where a high school girl was working.

“He just had no interest,” Jacobson said. “I’m trying to introduce him to the other high school students and he’s incredibly uncommunicative.

I know you got it Porter, but yes, it was tongue in cheek, I don't really think people should die for bringing kids to the wrong movies, maybe beaten to a pulp, but not die....maybe not be allowed to breed further, but not die...

Seriously.

Tragic event. The dude was sickly well prepared. I doubt a standard CCW person could have done much from the sounds of it. Maybe distracted the guy, assuming the CCW holder wasn't incapacitated by the gas (haven't heard if it was CS/tear gas or what).

.

x2

I don't think an armed civvie (ccw holder) would have been able to do much, much less a few of them! If I were in that theater, my main goal would be getting myself and my loved one out, then as many people out as quickly as possible and if a near perfect opportunity arose, take the shot.

Can you imagine trying to determine a single threat in a dark, smoke filled theater with people screaming, flailing, running, etc. and multiple people holding guns... not to mention the BG is wearing body armor... I have a feeling with a few CCW holders present it would have turned into an even more chaotic situation with at least one of the CCW holders shot and the rest balls deep in civil lawsuits...

Not to mention most people who carry (at least around here) have no training beyond lining up calculated shots at 2d pieces of stationary paper in fully lit rooms or broad daylight...

Unless you're right next to him. And for some reason he hasn't already shot you.... You're not getting to him. You're sitting. In a packed fcuking movie theater. In the fcuking dark.

Think about how difficult it is just to get up during a film to hit the head. It takes forever.

And now there are wounded and dead bodies between you and him. And people hiding behind the seats... The floor is slippery from blood and spilled food and soda.... In the time it takes you to get up and negotiate your way to him, unless he accidentally shot both of his own thumbs off, he's reloaded and zeroing in on you, and your ass is just another shot up mess.

Perhaps...I made it through hell week in BUDS training before i blew my knee out..being aware of your surroundings and what is going on instead of running helps tremendously ill take a chest shot any day trying to take someone out then shot in the back running away...and yes i have been in live fire, gas, training and that was the easy stuff...taking him down does not mean shooting him...not hard to tackle him knock the weapon away and disable...

When did it be acceptable for grown ups to show up in costumes at movie premiers? Without a costume..it would have been tough to get in and hide body armor and weapons its time to get rid of the stupid costumes....

Don't think he brought the stuff in the front door with him. He left it all in his car parked out back near the emergency exit door, then went out the emergency exit and propped open the door, and retrieved the stuff from his car and went back in and started shooting. Not sure how anyone would prevent that being done again if someone were so inclined, as you obviously can't lock emergency exits so they don't work from the inside. Might be able to tie them to an alarm, but most theaters I've been in allow people to use those exits to get out after the movie as it clears the place out faster than having everyone go back out the entrance doors.

True..thanks for the clarification..ive been gone this weekend and havent kept up with all the news...i had thought he brought his stuff in and propped open the door for his escape...alarms would be good on the doors to see if they are open that is for sure..

Anybody just see him in the court room? Do you think he was purposely acting like he was out of it?

Part of me does, like he thinks he's in character or something. Whether or not he's putting more show into this, he sure looks nuts.
