Resurrecting Jalpa #359

Have hit a massive snag:

Starter drive is frozen up and no good on my starter. Bosch no longer makes it. Lamborghini no longer makes it. Need a starter for dyno day.

Supposedly this starter "fits" but am leery as to order something without knowing for sure: http://www.wagneralt.com/products/113177.asp

Other options: https://www.ccw-tools.com/WOSP-LMS406---Lam...r__p-38192.aspx

http://www.racetorations.co.uk/other-class...ini-urraco-p860

No idea if ANY OF THESE FIT. If anyone knows and can confirm let me know so I can pull the trigger. Going to start making calls tomorrow.

Other options aside from this: I send it off to IMI and they make me a custom starter.

My dilemma: Dyno time is about 2 weeks out.

Well, I'm determined to figure out the starter issue. Finished the runner holes on the CF bits tonight. I hate math. But I'll do math if I need to in order to get things proper.

Don't mind the messy look, the plastic is still on them and covered in dust and frayed. I left it on so the CF doesn't fray and splinter and have issues. I'll clean it up and present the final bit of ITB mount #1 tomorrow when I get time.

Thankfully I get tomorrow and friday off, and everyone I know is out of town for thanksgiving. My girlfriend also went out of town with her family. So it's me, her dog, and lots of car goodies to play with for thanskgiving and all weekend.

I tried to hand him a wrench to see if he would help me work on the car, but he thinks everything is food.

No definitive answer but a possibility

Edit* won't allow the link...

Someone from LT ordered this one for his Jalpa

But never replied back to the thread if it worked or not

Post up a picture of the starter. It has to be used on other cars.

It is, except the nose and drive, which are lamborghini specific.

Thanks for the pics, I'll ask around.

There might be a local shop to rebuild it for you too or DIY it:

http://www.ls1.com/forums/f63/diy-starter-...ost-art-157825/

Local shop can't get the parts, they're all NLA :(

Found a guy who has restored ferraris and lambos for the last 30 years though and he says he can do it, his sources check out, going to call him tomorrow.

Port matching the CF to the runners, almost done, not totally. Need to clean up a few of the rough edges. CF is delicate to work with and not tear it up so I'm taking my time. Will post results once everything is portmatched and finished with ITBs mounted.

Too little too late but back when I was looking to rebuild my starter, I ended up emailing Bosche directly and they sent me a list with original part numbers and cross referenced replacements. It ended up being the same as a John Deere tractor for what it's worth. Glad you found a replacement!

When I called Bosch: "We have nothing that is comparable to the part, and nothing is made for it anymore. It is considered obsolete as of 2002. We recommend calling Lamborghini for a replacement."

When I called Lamborghini: "Yeah we don't make that anymore, you should call Bosch for a replacement."

A sheer paradox.

Congrats Derek! So happy you were able to get one. Where did it end up getting sourced from?

Cheers.

I know of them. I believe they rebuilt a water pump for a friend of mine and his Murci. :icon_thumleft:

Well, ITBs are damn near ready. I'm happy with results. Need to put the notch out further for the center heim on plate #2. Aside from that and the linkage, they're ready to be put on the motor.
