This story addresses the crux of the issue we face in society today. How do we fairly compensate our citizenry for the work they do.....how do we value their work monetarily.

People should be paid in relation to the value of what they produce. In a capitalist system workers are ALWAYS underpaid; if not the business would not survive. That is not to be taken as an attack but merely a statement of one effect of our system of economics.

People that are in business are motivated by being able to produce a product or service that addresses a problem and that can be profitable. Staying in business means being consistently profitable.

I think one of the biggest issues we face today is all the luxuries that people consider necessities these days. Electronics, cable, A/C and so on. People just automatically assume one is to have these things now.

To say that all workers are underpaid, is purely your opinoin on what is necessary. In a capitalist system, what you get paid is based on what you are willing to do, how hard you are willing to work, how much training you are willing to take, and how many risks you are willing to take. To say otherwise only shows you buy into the same rules of economics as this jackass....

Sally isn't that stupid, how is the janitor supposed to take work home?

The janitor can certainly polish the marble at home.

Wouldn't he have to jackhammer it out from the office first? That would be the only way he could meet the "taking work home" criteria :icon_mrgreen:

I completely agree with your second paragraph, biggest problem is self entitlement without willingness or drive to participate or take the risk which comes with the bigger reward.

IMO that's is the biggest problem in our society, people want all the benefits of the reward without the risk required to gain said reward, most overestimate the value they bring and fail to understand the impact their increased demands will have on the overall picture.

I face this all the time, I don't employ I subcontract, I am happy to pay extra for work only not to have to deal with the headaches which come with employing someone.

Most conversations have a similar pattern, oh you are so lucky! How so? You've got all this (insert material possessions).

You could also have the same!

Really? How?

You go home tell your wife you've found an investment which you think it might work and you will need the title of your house to take it to the bank because you will need to borrow a truck load of cash for your new venture, also don't forget to tell her that you might not be able to see her or the kids that often because your hours will change from 8 to definitely 12 but could be 16 at times, weekends with the family maybe once a month, also tell her with all that investment on your part, financial, physical and emotional, personal sacrifice there is a huge risk the project might not be a success.

The usual reply is, are you crazy? I would never do that! Too much risk, too many things to sacrifice. Ok cool now let's get back to work.

People want, I will rephrase, people feel they are entitled to get/have what you have without the risky part, that's annoying the crap out of me.

I am willing (I actually do) to teach them how to get it but 99% think that doing what I do is insane and not worth the risk but that doesn't stop them from feeling like they deserve it and that they should resent you for it.

I'm game. :icon_super: The 15 hour flight each way could prove to be problematic though.

I doubt they even realize how fortunate they have to be, just to have someone as accomplished as yourself give up what little time you have to try to guide them. And then to turn down that opportunity. :tyson:

I have few great examples where few guys listen to me :eusa_dance:

The funniest thing, few years back while soccer training one of the team mates said to me, man I am sick of being broke, I told him "Buy a House!" He was WTF dude are you nuts? :lol2:

In the end he said, f**k it I have nothing to lose I will do exactly what you tell me, I believe he flipped about 4 so far and sits on at least 2 and he still holds his day job.

One of my other friends, I met almost 15 years ago when I sold him a used car, he used to be a cop at the time, his latest development is a 80 apartments residential complex :headbang: his killing it.

I understand not everyone is the same but at any level there is always room for improvement if you are a go getter and willing to put in some blood, sweat and tears, there is nothing sweeter than the rewards your smart hard work can bring you, whatever they might be, a Lambo or even a nice t-shirt you always wanted.

Speaking of blood, I am out of here, I am needed at the house :lol2:

How do we fairly compensate our citizenry for the work they do.....how do we value their work monetarily.

By we I am assuming you mean the government, which in the end are the tax payers of this country as the government produces nothing yet overspends on everything.

We the tax payers have no obligation to pay our citizens more.

We have an obligation to educate our citizens for a said period of time.

How and what they do with that education is up to them period.

If a citizen chooses to take full advantage of their education they may in turn be eligible for a paid scholarship.

These are the ones that will excel in life and companies will pay them in accordance or they themselves will become business owners.

Well this is our Commander-in-Chief:

And Hillary is talking about requiring employers to engage in profit-sharing (which is quite literally an outright socialist concept if there ever was one---though I honestly think she is saying this stuff to counter Bernie Sanders right now).

I am willing (I actually do) to teach them how to get it but 99% think that doing what I do is insane and not worth the risk but that doesn't stop them from feeling like they deserve it and that they should resent you for it.

This is great, Fortis we can make a deal, I will fly over to Australia and trade you architecture knowledge for your business knowledge :icon_mrgreen: In all seriousness though, I don't get people who say, "Oh how luck you must be!" that's like such a condescending statement. Like your success can't POSSIBLY be due to things like hard work or anything.

Security alert. Someone has hacked Wheels account.

After a decade on this site im still not convinced that Wheels isnt one of the moderators trolling with a novelty account seeing how long they can keep up their best Rainman imitation before we figure it out.

If that's the case, Dustin Hoffman needs to hand over his Oscar to whomever it is. :eusa_think:

10:1 wheels thinks I just complimented him

Everything you wrote.

I was just making some basic statements regarding the topic of discussion.

As capt_chaos said last few days, or so, I'm fairly new to this forum, so maybe that's why.

But ... why Wheels is such a punching bag for everybody?

You guys appear to be as cruel as the Minnesota dentist.
